I get my music from AllOfMP3.com, I know its not the most legal business on the market but when I want music that good & works on any of my devices I can get it, even if i am only going to listen to it a few times.
Music is like the new fast food, its junk for our brains & ears & people want a lot of it, I don't get how the music industry doesn't realise that & where the hell do they get their market research from.
People want lots of music & they want it as cheaply as they can, when your competeing with a free market like the internet you can't try to restrict your competition you have to vigirously compete with it, even if your competition is illegal, its still competition.
Surgeons report rise in operations of amputation of eyes, ears & throats as people are scared of accidently infringing copywrite.
This is in response to a RIAA lawsuit where they sued a 12 year old girl for humming along to music in an elevator that unfortunatly was held under copywrite.
Security doesn't end with the IT Department, its also in the training of the end users, you can have the best security policy's in the world but without trained users its as good as useless.
The time and effort and money in training users & keeping them upto date with risk & policy is what is mostly discouraging to Business when looking at budget, the training is also disruptive to day to day business.
Most executives see reactionary security measures as more cost effective backed up with a well tested & thorough disaster recovery plan.
How many times have you bought a toaster and actually considered the innovations or the patents held on it??
When you buy something and it works, most people really don't give a dam about the work that went into it, in the society we live in today everything is disposable, our technological diversity has become so big most people don't care what work goes into anything, its just there to help them get through their day to day life.
Although your right in that anyone who uses technology is effected by patenting, most people have no idea what it is or how it works.
It's nice to see decent media starting to report what most people are thinking and saying.
Patenting is really a boring issue unless your directly involved with its consequences but im happy the issue is starting to come up in mainstream media.
It used to be the argument between rich & poor schools.
"We have a gym, swimming pool, theater, you don't have anything!!!"
Now its, "We run Windows, your poor, you run Linux!!!"
Open Source is a really good idea though, it will give pepole many more opportunities to access & use computers.
We round up every laywer on the planet & stick them on an island with nothing but the clothes on their back & a hastily written & very outdated constitution. Then we film it.
We not only do we get rid of our growing legal problem we also get a nifty reality TV we can watch with all our new found free time not spent in court or legal offices.
I saw a segment on TV about a new wind turbine called tuby, its a virtical axis wind turbine designed to be installed on roof's in cities, it is extremly efficient in low winds as its also designed to pick the updraft from buildings aswell, it can power a house plus it has a future design to put overflow of power back into the public grid.
These coupled with Solar Power look to be a viable source of energy in the future but they would rely on a stable backbone to work though.
Im not sure if they still do but citibank's credit cards used to have the users photo on it, so the user had the card, signature/pin & also had to match the photo on the card. This was a really good way to prevent your card being misused.
Iv never seen any other company's do this but its a good idea that is not too expensive when comparing it to biometric data.
The mythbusters set up a more realisitc scenario to test with, they had a real wooden boat that was harder to combust due to the protective resin that was coating the boat, their test was more true to the original myth then what the MIT trial was I think.
MIT's boat wasn't even in the water, they were just pointing mirrors at dry wood.
A boat would have also been damp which would have also made it harder to combust.
All Snipers give off Body heat & usually put themselves in pretty obscure positions, Wouldn't it be better instead of sound to use InfraRed?
The police use the technology on Helicopters to track people they are persuing, couldn't this technology be used to in conjunction with sound analysis for more accuracy?
Its easy for a sniper to hide in a battle but its hard for him to hide his heat signagture.
Im a Network Engineer who specialises in Medical Practices, all their Clinical & Practice Management software is all in Windows, and they have invested significant funds and time in setting up these applications which serve highly sensitive data & have taken staff a lot of time to train.
These practices are completley reliant on Windows because there isn't an alternative on Linux and even if there was, the migration costs would not make the switch viabale.
These practices will continue with Windows because their application developers only develop in Windows, Im sure there are a lot of other specialised fields who's applications only come in Windows who will be in the same position.
Its easy to say its cheap to move to Linux/Netware, but when you factor in Application migration & re-licencing & training its an awful lot of money
And can I mod it to add a shot gun so I can watch from my cellphone the robotic house-sitter blowing the living crap out of anyone stealing my hard earned possesions.
Only then would it be worth spending the $2600 to secure my home.
Disclaimer: 1) I am in no way affiliated with IBM, and know they abused their monopoly in the '80 too. I just think it's ridiculous to compare IBM and MS R&D results, just name 1 significant MS innovation.
I enjoy Vinyl and I love messing around on decks, that project is really great to see, even though the sound quality wouldn't be the best its still something I would like to try on a rainy day!!
The idea of turntables is you get ultimate control over the music, he's taken this idea one step further & built the turntable too!
I agree with you, I was doing a double in CS/Software Engineering and after 3 years left because I would spend 30 hours a week on theory, reading text books and not actually finding much practice for the stuff I was learning. I had older friends graduating with CS degrees & the only work they could get was pizza deliverey because they didn't have any practical experience.
I find uni degree's in IT are too specialised & focues and not enough ground work is done to help people really understand how computers really work. In my first semester class we were learning Java and we had to compile it in DOS, but none of my class new how to use the DOS command language, we were not taught how to do it, rather we were shown the commands we only needed to know to compile it.
Without a basic understanding of Operating Systems, networking, how computers work in real life, you shouldn't be taught something heavily specialised such as a Programming Language or study human computer interaction and this is why I think uni courses these days are less credible.
I left Uni, did vendor qualifications with Microsoft, Citrix, Novell & Cisco and found I became much more employable, my employers knew exactly what I can and can't do and what I am basically certifed to work on.
I could have a degree in computer science & have spent 3 years studing absolutley nothing to do with the job I was applying for, but the employer would not know that, all they see is a CS degree.
I cant wait to stalk my girlfriend with it.
They've gone back in time to relive such great pop chart moments such as;
Kenny Loggins - Footloose
Ray Parker junior - Ghostbusters
Van Halen - Jump
Communism is a great idea in theory! It isn't inherently evil or good. It will depend entirely on how it's used
"This reminds me of the study a few years back when the attempted to discover why hot pizza burns the roof of your mouth."
This study helped stoners all over the world! It most definatley was a worthy project!.

Wait till the porn industry starts using product placment, it will soon filter down to mainstream media in a more popular way!
<i>"After giving head nothing gets the taste out of my mouth better then mentos, my mouth is fresh and im ready to do the double penetration shot"</i>
That also goes hand in hand with the years greatest quote, by one president of Sony BMG

We all new that the the Penis effects IQ & now they have discovered a new gene????
More ammunition for my girlfriend to insult my intelligence.
