Jobs made an impact, Stallman just bitches and whines all the time. I talked to a guy that picked him up at the airport and Stallman bitched at the guy for using his credit card to fill up the tank instead of cash. They can track you with your credit card. Compare emacs with the shiny toys Jobs made and I think we see who comes out on top.
...it's the fear of the unknown. What if it's not as good as it looks? If you're making more money and gaining an hour and a half every day it's a no brainer.
There hasn't been a lot of change in laptop design in the past fifteen years. With the success of the iPad I think we're about to see some major changes to the laptop interface. So companies are building out their IP portfolio as both offensive and defensive weapons for any future litigation.
...but I very rarely watch a movie more than once. Ever. So now I just watch the movie for $4.99 OnDemand and I'm done. I still purchase movies for the kids because they'll watch great titles like "Planet 51" over and over again.
I think the bigger problem is that there are few titles worth purchasing rather than blaming everything on piracy. I don't know if I've ever seen a pirated movie for sale anywhere. But I've seen many crappy titles that I've picked up and then placed back on the shelf.
Those sites use Flash extensively and it runs like a dog on my daughter's hand-me-down iBook G4. I don't think you'll be happy with the results on a G3. Flash isn't written well or at least with the same optimizations as the Windows version.
I buy CDs if they're priced reasonably or better yet, used or borrowed and import them to iTunes. I basically use the CDs as backup for my music. If iTunes allowed you to download everything again if you lost your hard drive, I would stop buying CDs completely.
But it's still a damn nice communication device. I use the hell out of mine. There will always be things you don't like with any device, but I have phone with real email, real web surfing, iPod, real ssh app, decent camera, GPS, reasonably price apps (free ones even). A memory card would be nice, but it has 16GB and I'm only using ~3-4GB.
Have to disagree. The iPhone has more ticks in the "pro" column than the "con" column. Way more.
Make sure you actually have version 2.0.0. I've been trying to download it for my Treo since noon and still get the older verison even though the link says 2.0.0.
Why is everything being prosecuted in civil trials rather than criminal court? Are they not breaking the law? Of course, the answer is easy. Burden of proof is much lower and corporations can keep top legal staff on their payroll where the average American cannot afford to hire a good lawyer or will be in the position of hiring a lawyer and winning in which case they lose $100k or more in legal fees. Or losing, paying $200k in damages *and* $100k in legal fees. The court system is just a tool that is stacked heavily in the favor of the corporations. "We the People" died sometime within the past generation or so. Fortunately, "We the People" can stop purchasing the CDs and MP3s and cut the corporations off at the knees. I think I'll stick with my current habit of purchasing used CDs and supporting local bands.
Was this a 50 MPH speed limit or a 65MPH speed limit area? If you were doing 18MPH over, you probably deserve it. 3MPH over, I'll side with you.
At least 70% of my attempts to use Evi result in some version of a "unable to process your request" error.
They told everyone under 18 to go away, they're not going to return. Google+ had the worst launch of any product I've ever seen.

I reconsider my hasty comment. They do allow use for internal development purposes. It's not free as in beer, but that's actually not too bad.
First there's Red Hat's "Linux by the pound" announcement and then this humdinger. I'm ready to learn .NET.
Sadly, I'm only half joking....

No, not really.
Good way to network. Learn to network, it's as important of a skill as your technical expertise.

Both of them.

Of course it's fake, but it's still funny.

I never knew how to get the ^M on the command line and found it a week or two ago after doing unix since '93.

I think I'll vote via absentee ballot and send it via registered mail. Paranoid? Maybe.
I thought I was doing good with a 4 digit ID. I bow to your lowerness.
Lance missiles?? I went through Pershing training. We used to make fun of Lance missiles and their "half erection". Heh.
Why am I picturing everyone turning into vampire like creatures???
Occasionally there are good, informative posts on Slashdot like this one.
;-)
That said, "First!"

And I'll be saving the occasional Canadian quarter. Thanks George Bush.
