I'm not to familiar with all the available "micro" systems but Bose is the one of the few manufacturers that I've seen in brick and mortar stores. On a side note, I have a pair of my Dad's old 901's and they still kick ass after all these years (almost 20!!). Pair them with a sub and I have been perfectly happy. Although, IAMNAAudiophile.

Actually, quite a few games on XBOX live don't use a "centralized" server. Take Halo 2 for example, it picks a random host before each game. As far as I know the only dedicated server you're going to get is an XBOX that someone as hooked up to live acting as a server, but you can't play on that same XBOX. With that being said I think MS's online model is WAY better than what Sony offered simply becuase you can view friends across ALL XBOX live games. And to all those people who claim online is not the new thing, I've had a lot friends starting to play video games again once they experienced an online game. You can't tell me that an FPS or racing game is better playing some silly AI. Granted some humans (kids) will make you think otherwise, if you create a good friends list with good players than you rarely have an issue of playing with inexperienced players. I for one will never buy another single player game, rent maybe.

I'm speaking for myself here but......I won't buy a game for my Xbox if it doesn't have no online component. I don't mean stupid leaderboards and downloadable content crap, I mean true onine PvP action. Until AI is comparable to another human player, I have no interest. I gladly pay $50 a year to have friends list across all "live" enabled games and a pool of close to 1.5 million players to share the fun with. If you ask me, not making room for online capability is suicide. Despite all the great games for Gamecube, I haven't bought it for that one reason alone. My money is going to Microsoft (and Sony but their method is not quite as user friendly). "a.) It's not all that profitable, especially considering the maintenance involved." How do you know? My understanding is, all Microsoft does is maintain friends lists and the Live gui, approve content and patches, and....I think thats it. The consoles ARE the servers, no cost on Microsofts part there. "c.) Quality of service issues making charging for it that much more difficult" While I do experience lag occasionally, its usually the games fault. I can' tell you how many times lag has been fixed just by optimizing the network code. With the Xbox, if its lagging, its not Microsoft's fault....

It's not quite that easy....Perhaps if your company is cut off from the rest of the world and doesn't have to worry about conforming to "standards" (meaning a Windows based platform) or sharing information with outside entities. Let me give an example. I work as a helpdesk/network adminstrator for a particular government contractor whom supports the Marine Corps. While I would love to switch platforms that could possibly be cheaper and more secure its not like flipping a light switch to migrate 22,000 employees to a completely new OS. They (USMC) just spent billions and billions to have their network completely overhauled to one "standard" (Windows). This means all WinXP and Office 2003. So in order for us as a contractor to keep our jobs we MUST stay within those standards, heck, it's bad enough that you can't read most Office2k3 files with prior versions of Office let alone some **nix version of a "compatible office suite". So for us to be able to communicate with our customer efficiently and remain employed, we HAVE to remain "compatible" with our customer otherwise another company will come along and take our jobs.
