I'm sorry but anyone who thinks that a first person shooter, no matter how "realistic" the blood and guts is anything like actually going out and fighting has needs a reality check. They've either never played the game, or they've been playing for too long or they are just plain idiots.

Same goes for the movies. They might be used as recruiting tools (chiefly for cannon fodder as anyone dumb enough to think they're going to be Maverick from Top Gun clearly is too stupid and naive to be useful as much else).

You've clearly never watched Band of Brothers or The Pacific. They were placed in a conflict very different than the ones we are involved in now, but they were two of the most moving series I've ever watched and it truly changed the way I look at combat.

I'd say that The Wire had the same affect in terms of my perspective on crime.

It's good to know the editors are doing something. We should be supportive of their attempts instead of discouraging them by jumping on every little mistake.

I'm supportive when CmdrTaco, Timothy, or one of the other editors make a mistake. It happens, Soulskill (who sticks to Idle) made one the other day and he owned up to it and even made a funny joke, but kdawson is the worst editor /. has had in a while. He regularly messes up the article, makes unnecessary edits that end up making the article incorrect or cause grammatical errors to make it as if the person who submitted it made the mistake.

There's trolls for every article, but kdawson continually makes mistakes and even the long time readers have jumped on the bandwagon of not liking his editing. Sure, you could always block his articles from showing up in your feed, but it's a lot more interesting to see the train wreck that is his editing. Maybe if we complain enough he will stop being an editor and do something behind the scenes so that first time readers of the site don't become discouraged by poor editing. Just look at this article! The original submission said Toshiba and he tidied it up, but put in a completely wrong company. Who needs proofreading, anyway? Something you learn in grade school clearly isn't important in the real world.

Like I said, the industry as a whole is a scam.

Same thing with the surge in DUI arrests in the past decade (or a little more). The insurance companies pressured the police into actually charging people with DUIs instead of making them walk home or dropping them off in the drunk tank because they realized that they can charge otherwise very safe drivers who had a little too much at a cocktail party with insane premiums.

I read about another study that showed that children who live in spotlessly clean homes are more prone to allergies and athsma than kids whose moms are slobs. This may be related somehow, I don't know.

That may be because the kids in the spotless homes don't get enough germs in their body to build up antibodies. These are the same kids who probably weren't allowed to play in the dirt, compared to ones who live in homes that aren't as well maintained.

    Also helps allergies:

I've read several studies in Science News that show exposing allergic bodies to the outdoors "trains" the immune system to ignore things like pollen, dust, and so on as simply part of the natural environment.

I've also read studies that picking your nose and eating your boogers increases your immune system. Seems plausible since your nose filters out pollen, dust, and other things your body shouldn't be absorbing.
