I would take a repeat of the EQ/EQ2 experience to make me start playing these time-wasters again - and I don't see that ever happening again.
Maybe I should look into getting a few computer-savvy friends together to write our own MMO.
Every now and then I have wanted to get involved in some type of MA that is guaranteed to cause pain and injury because I feel froggy, angry, and stupid sometimes. Shouldn't be hard for me to get hurt, because I am untrained and out of shape, LOL. Where can I go when I feel so inclined? I would think any serious dojo would probably take measures to keep from getting sued and have all kinds of pads and stuff. =( I want the real thing. I won't be going to try this any time soon until I get my health insurance back!
What qualities determine the *best* tech job candidate? To someone who has been out of tech work for years and has returned to student status, I have no idea what causes me personally to lose out after the interview.
All past interviews seem to go very well, and were usually lots of fun for both myself and the interviewer.
Then they choose the other candidate.
This has happened to me even for student part time positions!

Damn right. How many times have you opened the screws and stripped off the "ZOMG your gonna fubar your warranty - no user servicable parts inside!" only to find that a rubber band belt has stripped off, a capacitor has popped, something came unsoldered or otherwise disconnected or ran off some predefined gear-run track (like a sliding door etc)
simple repair and it works like a charm.
Now with all these throw away $20 devices no one even bothers to get more life out of them anymore. They end up in the landfill making the environmentalists scream bloody murder.

This is exactly what I believe. I've seen more talented people kick my butt in technology and win the interview over myself countless times. It makes me mad that there are others out there that deserve more pay than I do, so may the whole system come crashing down on everyone's head! Why should I try when there are so many others out there that have better social skills and better brains that are going to win anyhow?
I should get a consolation prize for at least trying, and failing. But that isn't how it works is it???

What if 99% of America AGREES with the law I don't like? I guess I am S.O.L. in getting it changed, right? Then what?
Also, not to engage the FUD-yness of the word "terrorism" but it struck me as interesting that they hit us with 9/11 right after it was confirmed by everyone that America was reeling from problems already underway before getting a kick in the gut like an attack. I think they are watching for another one of America's "bubbles" to burst before hitting us again =( I certainly did not like having all the extra problems associated with the end of the year 2001 contributing to my inability to find a job even in a non-tech field.

if the economy just keeps going in an upward direction for 10 years straight like it did in the 90's it is pretty hard for a (then) early 20 something kid to see that there might be a dark tunnel ahead to prepare for =/

EXCEPT Everquest II's Station Exchange! KUDOS to SOE for implementing this and SHAME on other MMORPG's for rejecting it! I refuse to play another MMORPG where I cannot profit from my game playing, call me greedy, but I don't care, I like selling, and if I cant sell, I wont play these games!
Should I finish my degree with 2 misdemenor assaults on my record from a troubled fall from grace as I lost my A$$ in 2001?
Im working on a 4 year degree but would like some feedback about how much I will be turned down after they like my degree and/or past experience then move on to the background check....
You know, some of us don't have the compassion for others, natural calling and a clean enough background check to consider a switch from IT to a Healthcare Career! Another case of "Sorry buddy, you're screwed! Shoulda thought about it when times were good!"
Like it or not, people in GAME WORLD's are actively making REAL MONEY from selling GAME items (in this case in compliance with the game world's liscense agreement) Horaay for SOE and Station Exchange!
