  1. Needs more context on LittleBigPlanet Delayed Due To Qur'an-Sampling Audio · · Score: -1
For those who didn't actually read tfp or another article, here's a quote from the original post that was relayed on Ars Technica:

"We Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Quran deeply offending," he explained. "We hope you would remove that track from the game immediately via an online patch, and make sure that all future shipments of the game disk do not contain it."

I use full encryption on my bittorrent sessions, and it hasn't stopped my router from correctly categorizing every single connection.

  3. Easter Egg on Twilight Hack Defeats Wii Menu Update 3.3 · · Score: 5, Funny

Take note of the nice easter egg they left in for Nintendo to find:

    The Twilight Hack Song
    ---------
    This was a triumph.
    I'm making note here:
    HACKED AGAIN.
It's hard to overstate our satisfaction.

    Team Twiizers
We do what we must because we can.
For the good of all of us, except the ones who pirate.
But there's no sense crying over every quick plug.
We just keep on trying while there's still one more bug.
And the homebrew comes back, and we make a neat hack.
For the people whose Wiis want new life.

    I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though they broke the hack and patched it.
    And fixed IOS30.
And broke every fake signed disc out there.
As they failed it hurt because...
    They were attacking homebrew!
Now these quick hack fixes have some beautiful holes,
So we found them fast and easily met our goals.
And I'm glad we got burned.
Think of all the things we learned.
For the people whose Wiis want new life!

    Go ahead and patch it.
I think I'd like to have some fun.
Maybe you'll find an undisclosed bug.
    Maybe that huge one.
That was a joke, haha, fat chance!
Anyway, this homebrew's great. It's also legal to use.
Look at me still talking, when there's hacking to do.
    It might take three months,
but they'll patch this one too.
I've experiments to run, there's reversing to be done.
On the people whose Wiis want new life.

And believe me the Wiis want new life!
I'm busy hacking and they want new life.
I feel FANTASTIC and they'll get new life.
While you're dying they'll still be alive.
And when you're dead they'll still have some life.
    STILL ALIVE,

    still alive.

  8. Should have added a survey on 38% of Downloaders Paid For Radiohead Album · · Score: 0

There's so many interesting numbers that could come out of this, and they'd all say something about file sharing, etc.

They should have asked downloaders some questions as a requirement.
"Have you heard of Radiohead before?/Have you purchased a Radiohead album before?"
"Would you have downloaded/purchased this music if it was not available for free?"

Then you get numbers representing how many SALES are truthfully LOST to file sharing vs. how many FANS are MADE by file sharing.

Also, I recall Trent Razor (Sorry if it's misspelled, no idea who he is) talking about paying for Radiohead's album. He said he paid $5000. Now it would be a little weird for him to just "donate" $5000 to the band, but he has enough money that he can support the band in this way if he believes they deserve it.
People are able to support the artist as much as they see fit/are able to spare. Quite a good system, in my opinion. It's a convenient form of donation.

  10. Re:In BC, they purge data after three months on ACLU Protests Police Scanning License Plates · · Score: 0

    Definitely agree with you here.
Purging after three months is basically just a Cost-of-storage Vs. Usefulness-of-information issue. You still have a three month log of thousands of citizens' activities.
It's not "perfect privacy," and it's not any more private than a 6 month log.

At most, you gain the illusion of privacy.

What they don't mention is that just about every new processor they're releasing (or dropping prices on) comes with their new "Trusted eXecution Technology" built in.
This will be the on-die partner of Trusted Platform Module, which is already built into motherboards of this generation.

    From Wikipedia:

Trusted Execution Technology (TET or TXT), formerly known as LaGrande Technology is a key component of Intel's initiative of "safer computing" . Intel claims that it will be very useful, especially in the business world , as a way to defend against software-based attacks aimed at stealing sensitive information. Although commonly advertised by Intel as security technology, the Free Software Foundation claims that it can also be used to enable development of more advanced, tamper-resistant forms of DRM, and can be abused to achieve vendor lock-in.
(Link) Personally, I'm going to avoid this technology if I possibly can.

Even if you pay in cash, they will be able to show your face/physical build to the cops from the security tape. Heck, alot of stores make you give a name and phone number before they sell you anything. I know my store ALWAYS asks for one, and an address (although nothing is mandatory)
