I didn't realize that they verify what they were written, thanks for the info. With the recent advancements in SSD storage space, a lot of people are wanting them for laptops. Not being able to securely erase the data may be a problem for some. This may make encryption that is easy to use and secure a priority for manufacturers.
remapping failed blocks from a small pool of reserved good ones Is that before or after you save data to that block?!
Now for the serious part of the discussion: How does flash determine when a block failed? I know regular hard disks use this feature too, but how does it determine a block failed also? If a block fails, how would it be able to recover the data contained there? How does wear leveling fit into securely erasing flash storage? Even if you overwrite a block, how can you be sure it was really overwritten?
I always wonder why they're afraid of being judged themselves...
They don't get much (if any) choice in who is in their class (or for that matter the parents/guardians of those students).
A friend and I used to share an apartment and he taught highschool. I learned the other side to this statement. It boiled down to some kids like class, some don't, some parents will complain that their 'special' kid is having their grades unfairly lowered etc. They also had problems with standardized tests where parents were having their kids determine the correct answer and not choose it (teaching is very political). Being judged on criteria where you don't have much control over the starting conditions nor ongoing changes would not be enjoyable in my opinion.
I pose a question on how would/should we deal with those with similiar/same name or similiar/same nickname? I find that much more problematic than trying to remove something you did do. A Company wishes to hire you and does a search. They wouldn't be able to tell one from the other in this case. That i find disturbing. I've had my nickname for over 15 years on forums and usenet to muds and bulletin boards and stuff, and then last spring i started seeing someone with the same nick in california posting book reviews on amazon.com, very wierd. Then again last fall, i noticed someone with my NAME AND NICKNAME that was listed as a high schooler from ohio, needless to say its very disconcerting concerning possible blind searches on names/nicknames. I know you can always go anonymous, but i've never been a coward and always tend to speak my mind and this would go both ways.
Stair dismount is the one i recall. They also had a truck dismount one where a truck was smashing into a wall. Both can be found here: http://jet.ro/dismount/
Seems they aren't making enough money or wanting to make more by putting an artificial limit on any or all of those three items and then charge you if you want more?
Interesting, learn many new things every day. Thanks.
The big problem i think from the internet point of view is this:
You -- ISP --- (internet) --- ISP -- Business (data you want to reach)
The internet is group of people/corporations/ISPs/phone companies that had agreed to pass traffic back and forth (peer agreements etc). However, they now see the traffic that is going through them going up and not necessarily being payed for (to them). One and/or the others get an idea, everything that passes through me should pay. Hence the call for network neutrality so we don't have to pay twice for the same thing. However, people don't seem to get the fact that the bandwidth should be accounted for, which up until recently now really hasn't been considered.
Though i think it might be nice for this (the internet) to become a public utility so the network neutrality issue goes away by everyone paying to access it. It would however have to deal with the real cost. i.e. connection AND bandwidth like most other finite resources.
From my experience, back experts believe that if you're going to injure something, break a leg, tear a knee, dislocate a hip, etc. Those can be fixed/replaced. Trying to get your back fixed or replaced can almost be impossible in certain circumstances. The worse thing that can realistically happen with injuring something like your lower extremities is having to get a prosthetic limb (not desireable, but at least livable). Getting a major back injury and you're in trouble. Thus, back experts tell you, don't use your back, its valuable. Kinda a flawed statement though. What else are they going to tell you? Twist while picking things up to stretch?:)
I have notice that some people are refered to as a "morning" person, or a "night" person. I had a roommate in college who fell asleep in like 2 minutes, but it would take him like 45 minutes to an hour to be ready to face the day in the morning, asking them questions before that requisite time and you'd get back almost giberish most of the time, now myself, I take like an hour or more to fall asleep, but when i wake up in the morning, i'm ready to go almost as soon as my eyes open. I sometimes wish i could fall asleep fast, but if i would have to trade for his side effects, i don't think i would like that. It seems there is more to this sleeping thing that a lot of people realize.
One thing i did notice is they should be teaching you more of WHY and not HOW. For instance, the imaginary number is useful for electrical analysis (and many other phenomenon). Knowing how it works is one thing, but never having a need to use it or seeing any use for it can cause a lot of frustration and pain.
People have a hard enough time driving cars without causing accidents and they tend to stop when there is a major problem. Having personal planes flying around with the possibly interfering with current air traffice and the habit of crashing when they have a major problem are two reasons why there isn't a market for flying cars. Can you even imagine having to get a license and liability insurance for a personal plane?
But we want the tally before we go to bed, otherwise we can't sleep. 24 hours? gah, thats terrible! It's been 27 minutes since you last successfully posted a comment. Nice.
I have one of those cards. I would categorize the readers as the likely culprits. Sometimes taking the bare card and attempting to have it read is a lesson in futility and others you walk near it and it reads it.
Since i'm taking classes and working downtown i carry 4 rfid cards in my wallet and the only one that has a problem being read is the chicago card. All the others (office id, school id and parking pass) work fine from in my wallet with all the other present.
Similiar things happened a couple times over the weekend at my parents house. It was mildly annoying. I used this trick occasionally, but it worked almost anywhere. Stereo mini-jack to rca cable. Plug cable into audio player other end into a/v jack on tv. This used to allow anything with an a/v input to play sound off an audio player. No luck, the tv couldn't select that input because there was 'nothing' connected. Tried their vcr, found the same problem, wouldn't allow selection of the input. Ok, no problem, i just bought a new laptop, connect headphone jack of audio player to line in of laptop. Didn't work. It would record the input just fine, it just wouldn't play it directly through the built in speakers. What? Tried calling support and they asked 'why would you possibly want to do that?' I finally tracked down a solution by downloading a driver from another laptop manufacturer using the same audio chip to enable playing of line in directly through a 'monitor' slide in the volume controls. Needless to say i was really dumbfounded.
I would imagine google is looking for ways that are faster than their current methods (hence the runtime limits) and not necessarily interested in how long it took to code it. This way they get to see many different insights into how the problem can be looked at.
The timeframes for highway construction could be extremely shortened if the road could be completely closed. However people don't seem to like this alternative for some reason!. Maintenance of traffic usually involves lots of stages of work, temporary pavement, tons of signs etc. The biggest problem I have seen is the unknown. While building, repairing, widening roadway, the construction crew hits *something*. It could have been clearly marked and still hit. It could have been marked in the wrong place. It could have been put in before people started worrying about finding them again. This is usually followed by what is it? Is it abandoned? Is it still in use? Didn't know it was there? Did it knock out power/phones/etc. From what i've seen, these are the major problems with schedules.
A few summers ago i worked at a utility concrete plant that was over an hour drive from my house. A couple times near the end of the summer i would "wake up" a few blocks from the plant going, how did i get here? It was scary.
They want the google search to point to their own music services (after they get rid of everything else) and only tell you the song that it is in so you can buy both, of course adding that you can only buy them both and just raise the price without doing any actual work.
People keep trying to come up with ways to block the rfid from transmitting. How about stop it from recieving power to begin with by adding an on/off slider/switch to it?
The new heart you have inserted into this body is not on the list of approved components for this system. We are presently taking care of this problem by the destruction and removal of the non approved part. Wow, the human body has DRM already in it.
Compare the composition of a phaser with the green laser pointer talked about in the following article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DPSS_laser Take note of all the crystals and processes involved, some look quite complicated. Truth is stranger than fiction.
A big conflict i see about using computers is the ease at which you can change things. When you're doing things by hand, you have to put more thought into what is going on before you start drawing. The other side is the ease at which you can draw and change and rechange and redraw things on the computer causes you to just get it done without putting much thought into it because you can change it later. This last thought is the big problem i see and sometimes fall into myself. You draw it, its not quite right but you will "get back to it later." Later you don't remember what was not quite right and you submit it anyway. This is very similiar to a paper passing a spell checker and thinking it is ready to go.
Like anything else, there are pros and cons and you have to evaluate it as necessary.

Check out a movie called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thirteenth_Floor. Worlds within worlds is an interesting idea.
