Think about this for a second.
People who were not computer savvy at all figured out about naspter. Bitorrent is popular enough to cause the federal government to get involved. audiogalaxy folders still exist in peoples shares on other file systems. A majority of people who have computer adeptness these days most likely gained that adeptness through their want/need to download music.

CURBING SOMEONE FROM GETTING THEIR MUSIC IS ONLY GOING TO LEAD THEM TO SIDESTEP YOUR POLICIES.

its been said a million times, i know, and there's nothing original about my response, but seriously. This stops no one from burning as many cds as they want, unless all they want is to burn the one cd.

  6. Re:This isn't a troll, but... on Smoke and Mirrors from Sony and Microsoft · · Score: 0

one of the things it seems no one has pointed out: who wants to have their friends come over and sit around their computer?

even if there was a soul caliber 2, or a mario kart double dash for the PC, i wouldnt want to have everyone crowded around my computer playing it. people hate that.

if you ever want to get girls to play fighting games, they have to be sitting on a couch. it also helps that their beer doesnt spill all over your computer desk. heh.

this same analogy could be made for a dvd player. you can watch all of your movies on your computer, but wtf kind of fun is that. 8 people don't seat comfortably in my room. they do in my living room, however.

plus i totally agree that the games for the consoles tend to be way better than the games for the computer. and you're guaranteed that it all runs at the same speed. back in 1994 when i was playing worlds of xeen, i didnt have a soundcard, and my 486 sx 25 didnt handle a lot of the screen changes very quickly. on a console, its all the same, across the board. i take comfort in that.

in my opinion, the soulseek donation "scheme" is a blessing. if i really care about what i want to download, 5 dollars a month is a small price to pay to get bumped tot he top of the queue. granted, it pisses a lot of users off when you queue up 3 albums and start downloading right away... i get banned a lot, but, whatever. usually you can sweettalk a guy (unless he only speaks spanish) and get back in his good graces.
theres no necessity to pay for soulseek. its not a requirement. its just a way to get a better use out of the system (like livejournal).

  12. i need some help botting from usb on IBM Using iPod to boot Linux on PCs · · Score: 1

ok this is somewhat on topic, and don't hate me if it's not. but i spent 3 separate nights trying to figure out how to get my bios to boot from USB (its phoenixBIOS 4.0 rev 6.0).
from what i gathered, the USB functionality for the phoenixBIOS (this is on an eMachines motherboard, so i'm pretty sure its an Imperial GLVE, which has the shittiest documentation and the web has some pretty sour information about it) didn't get implemented until rev 6.1, so i'm pretty sure i'm SOL.

what i would like to see is a CLEARCUT explanation of what i would have to do to get my computer to boot from USB. because I bought one of those IDE->USB converters and i have all these hard drives that i can just plug right in, and id really like to take a smattering of OSes and plug them in at will.

    any help?

you know, back in 2000 I bought a Personal Jukebox with 7 gigs of storage.

it always cracks me up when people talk about the technological advancements made by the two key players in the mp3 player industry, when items such as that existed over 5 years ago and smoked the hell out of anything that came out for the next 2 years.

i blame poor marketing on compaq's part... they could have also been a key player. good luck to sony. nowadays (especially in boston) it doesn't matter if the mp3 player had a friggin' time machine in it, if it's not an iPod, people don't want them. because they all want their friends to know that they are COOL and HIP and have enough money to frivolously blow on a "cute white mp3 player".

fuck the iPod. I hope sony can at least dent their market share.
