Because that's pretty much what you do in as a government entity. If you do your job and succeed, ask for more funding to do even more, better work. If you fail, blame it on understaffing to try to get more funding. If you don't do great but don't do horrible, try to get more funding to help "push the fight in the right direction".

I could own a house and live in it for less than 5% of my monthly income, but having 2.5 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms and the rest of what I have was important enough to me to pay more.

We live in a global world now, life, law-enforcement and even international relations would all become a great deal simpler if we could agree on a set of universal human rights and be quite sure that in every non-totalitarian state you may visit those rights WILL receive absolute protection ? Absolutely not. I want less focused power, more distributed. States rights in the US have been a cornerstone of how we have kept from turning into that which we declared independence from a ~250 years ago. We do not need one world government. As much as I don't like it that China has so many of what I consider backwards laws and practices, I want to stand by their right to decide their own fate as long as it doesn't threaten outside countries. The last thing I want to see if the U.N. being granted any power with teeth to it. While it turns into somewhat of a circus as a result (Resolution #389134014812 to embargo iran for nuclear weapons development going unheeded without actual repercussions) the more focused power is at the top, the more likely you're going to LOSE rights.

If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

the problem with morally acceptable of making money is that they often morally tie you to the person paying you in some way. And therefor to keep morally on the up and up, you continue to have to make morally right decisions and actions. Scams, however, it's just a matter of how far you can string a person before you move on to the next one. And you seldom have to worry about silly things like reporting taxes and employing people, though some scams do get that large that they employee people who unwittingly (sure, right) participate. Still easier than providing a useful service that works to make customers happy.

While the highlighted area is basically to let people know what they are doing, there is a bunch of very useful information and links also on that page. Important phone numbers, links to the four State response websites, ROV footage...stuff that they don't HAVE to put on a "Damage Control" link. They may only have done it because that was the only way to have any hope of repairing their image once this is over, but it's a better source of information that most of the other links you'll find in the results.
