I disagree wholeheartedly. The japanese kicked our ass in the auto industry in the 80's and 90's but detroit adapted and learned how to make a better product. More and more american cars are finding their way into consumer reports top 10's and that's something that benefitted the population at large.
Competition fosters a better quality product. If Japan wants to help make Linux a better product, then I'm all for it.
Heh, my company's IP agreement was clarified to a "works for hire" agreement where it was specific to anything done on the company's dime/time/resources. I think I helped it get changed after a few back and forths with legal because I brought up the fact that their IP agreement would cover any worms or virii written by an employee at home. Nothing like finding Copyright 2005 (Insert Company Here) in a virus;) -B
There's a post on fat wallet that goes into this topic a bit. Basically it's a waste if you're only going to have one child because the defect will be present in the cord blood as well. Cord blood storage is discussed as well as pricing and previous user's experiences with them. The American Red Cross donation program is also mentioned as well. Interesting read for those of you who are passing your slashdot genes along;) -B
They're already out in space... Watch some MST3K and look at MIT's Toddler (Tom Servo), Cornell and Delft look like they are Crow's parents... As for Gypsy... mmmm... Barney's Actimate that was rooted by a vacuum cleaner? dunno...
Considering that this is from Ebaum's World, I find it hard to believe it's not just a joke/fake. That's the point. It wasn't a joke then but it sure as hell is one now.... Now all we need to complete this whole trollish article is for someone to find the Windows XP with reboot Chimp pic and the troll will be complete.
Fucking Hell... Is it such a slow weekend that this drivel is making it on? WTF. People used to call me a slashbot and I think I'm slowly realizing wtf they're talking about. I'm sure that plenty of articles are being rejected en masse for the same reposted old stale ass drivel.
Someone start a goddamn poll on which editors need to be fired.
(Lives in Atlanta) - I just think it's funny. Sherman burned Atlanta (almost) to the ground. I just wonder if someone will name a piece of spyware Sherman and watch it raze Atlanta again....
In Georgia "cracker" is a derogatory slang term for a redneck often used by folks of other ethnic origins. I just never see rednecks call each other "crackers". Anyways, I work in a office and my prior boss (african american) came into my cube and jokingly accused me of "hacking my way into systems". I corrected him and told him that the correct terminology was "cracker". I gave him a pretty stern look and told him that if he called me a "cracker", we'd be in HR's office before his coffee cooled off. Fun stuff....
So far Ive had my setup email address (based on our account name) and I created one just for me. My email address is in the format blahblah_nospam@mindspring.com - Note: There actually is _nospam in my email address.
Account based email box ~ 25 spams/week over the past year. My email account : 0!
Reasoning : spammers do s/nospam//ig; on their email addresses.
I really feel for that blahblah_@mindspring.com - They're getting my spam;)

Become a victim of credit fraud *once* and you will see why this law is a good thing. I'm still fighting to get my record cleared from ~1999. I'm lucky because Georgia allows me 2 free credit reports, but you may not be in a state that has this kind of ability.
Credit card phishing, widescale identity theft, and the number of databases with personal information are increasing in numbers. 1 annual credit report is long overdue.
Wasn't IBM required to divulge a substantial part of their source code? That alone is reason enough to leave a lot of the discovery material sealed.
BTW.. Remember this is Maureen O'Gara.. She hasn't exactly proven herself to be a friend of Open Source . I'm not exactly sure what she wants out of this.
First they take the Eternet speed record out of context ( "Recently, researchers successfully sent data from Switzerland to Tokyo at speeds of 7.21 gigabits per second. That was enough speed to transfer a full-length DVD anywhere in the world in less than five seconds, researchers said." ) and make this seem like the standard. I'm sure there just TERABYTES of DVD and mp3s sitting on Internet2 using their "new math". Just say NO!

"Increased success of scams leads to increased fees"
Give Master Card or VISA a completed investigation with the suspect's names, a written confession, an itemized list of goods purchased with stolen credit cards, videotapes of the suspects and THEY STILL WON'T PROSECUTE. They don't give a flying fuck because they can write it off and then pass the screwing on to you the customer. My department almost re-wrote their evidence rules because they were almost categorized as "victimless crimes" (the cc company is the unwilling victim that never claimed their property) and the evidence was almost considered lost and found.
I feel bad for anyone that has their identity stolen - happened to me and it took 3 years to straighten out, but I have *NO* sympathy whatsoever for any cc company (except AmEx, they were militant and have my respect). If they increased prosection and put some of these people away instead of "trying to prevent" it, then they would get somewhere.
FTA - Analysts stress that it is too early to draw any long-term conclusions. Just watch the media - I'm sure they will convieniently ignore this and push some "Netcraft confirms that the world is dying" type of thread. This will probably seep into the current election media campaigns as well because this is Bush's fault (co2 increases for the past 2 years straight due to all the hot air coming out of DC)
