And that British Space Programme was canned by a Conservative Government, doing what Tories do best. Cutting funding to everything.
Blue Streak, Black Knight and Black Arrow were our biggest Government funded rockets, and were first designed to be used as ICBMs, naturally. Testing was done in Woomera in Australia in the 1950s and 60s, and a full launch of a British Satellite was conducted in the early 70s.
And the origin of the Missile silo came from this programme, which the Americans then used after we shelved the idea due to funding, space and environmental concerns (we would've had to place silos across most of the best countryside).
The rockets almost had a flawless launch record (Blue Streak was 100%), and for the early 1960s, it looked like we could have launched our own manned spaceflight programme after the Russians and Americans.
Black Knight was mostly used to test atmospheric resistance and durability of the rocket designs, and its knowledge and designs were incorporated into Blue Streak.
Black Arrow, had two failures to its name, and one successful placing of a British made Satellite, Prospero into orbit. Its still up there, circling, and transmitting.
When Blue Streak was cancelled, a new design, called Black Prince came about. It fused Blue Streak and Black Knight together, with Knight being the second stage. However, enough funding was acquired, and despite attempting to woo the commonwealth members inot helping to fund the project, it got brushed aside, and Blue Streak got a French second stage instead. The rocket was now called Europa 1.
On paper, Black Prince could have rivalled the Atlas Agenas or Centaurs of the US, but was unfortunately cancelled. As a result the newly formed European Space Agency turned to the French for its launchers, and they provided the Ariane series. The rest as we say, is history..
AOL, please send your discs to me, in nice full DVD cases like some of your last ones. I take such good care of them! My DVD-Rs and CD-Rs love you for your free caring homes for them!
It's possible Microsoft said PowerPC 970 meaning the developers kits instead of XBox 2 itself. Cell wasnt around so they used the next best thing, and the developers get a head start on working on XBox 2 games. Of course, I'm speculating, but you never know...
Who knows, Cell could actually be in XBox 2. A last minute change or so. I guess only time will tell now.
It is indeed an exiciting year for computer technology.
Beagle 2 was actually a SAS probe, designed to hunt down and disrupt the NASA probes.
Evidence:
1 developed 'bugs' in its software, causing it to go into safe mode (Beagle 2 whacked it on the head with a mallet)
the other one developed wheel trouble (Beagle 2 left some chewing gum on the wheel)
The shape of Beagle 2 has been identified in the heatshield wreckage of Opportunitys location. We believe Beagle 2 is now preparing to possibly stalk Opportunity and gain more experience for its next level up in MarsRPG.
I think they should have had this device automated like everything else was, after all, there was a 87 minute time delay on communication. A backup to the system that turns on after a set time if the primary doesn't would be nice too, but I bet weight limits scrapped a backup for most things (one reason why Beagle 2 went missing). Would have been cool to know the wind speeds, the photos showed it being tumbled aound a lot during the descent. At least the rest of mission worked. They managed to get the 50% 'missing' data now from the second transmitter. Radio telescopes picked them up, instead of Cassini. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4193043.stm)
I am looking forward to many more Titan missions. Its certainly more geologically active than Mars.
now the links give a SSOD (Slashdotted screen of death)
itd still be too dark to tell...
