  1. 1.) The two men were actively robbing a store when the gun fight. Regardless if they were the bombers, they did attempt an armed robbery.
2.) The dead man had explosives on him.

So if your concern is that they shot and kill an innocent man, rest easy. It doesn't matter if he was a bomber (though circumstantial evidence certainly suggests as such). He robbed a store with a gun and died as a result. To top it off, he murdered a MIT campus officer in the process.

As far as making it clear that we will not support a product that is not customer centric, just don't buy the product. I won't be buying a 720 in the near future due to this and the lack of games I like to play. But I wouldn't wish harm on the human who made a gaffe online.

It is true that a lot of people hate jerks and thus are jerks towards jerks which makes them a jerk which others hate and so on and so forth. Sounds a bit too complicated. Lifes too short to live like that. (- This is usually the part where people accuse me of not living in the 'real world' when discussing more serious topics). Why not just admit he made a mistake, realize he got punished for it, and hope the best for him in his future endeavours?

Grace, mercy, and forgiveness are freeing. Not only that, but I hypothesize that if we were to deal with people like Orth in real life over lunch or something, we'd be far more gracious in our differing opinions. He wouldn't have been such a jerk and the Internet community wouldn't pile hate on him.

  7. Re:Fantastic. on Microsoft Game Director Adam Orth Resigns Following Xbox Comments · · Score: 1

You're correct. I think the OP's problem is a form of DRM called "Always On DRM". This prevents a product from working unless it has an active connection to a DRM server via the Internet. The Wii U does not have this since games can be played offline and, afaik, the PS4 will also not have this.

That's the beauty of grace. It makes life not fair.

Grace isn't grace if it is given only to the gracious. That's merciless justice. Grace goes beyond being merciful and withholding wrath. It is to give one undeserved respect and forgiveness. It is something that the Internet community as a whole has forgotten how to do.

Sometimes a person can be both gracious and just. Nobody is perfect and will make mistakes in their career. So if we would not like to be publically humiliated, why call on Microsoft to publically humiliate Orth? So what if it's a PR disaster. Things happen.

If you're just upset about Microsoft's always on DRM, then buy a Wii U or PS4.

Imy kids like the Wii U too.

As for stereotypes, I'd rather call it a demographic. And it's a huge, huge market (and kids can be very persuasive).

That's what I'm arguing against. Wii/Wii U is not a kids console. It is a console for Nintendo style gamers. Gamers who feel that the best thing on the 360 was Viva Piñata. Gamers who flock to games like Little Big Planet. It's not that a game has to be "kiddie". It's that it has to be well done. In fact, my kids did not ask me to buy a Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, GB, GBC, GBA, Nintendo DS, 3DS, etc... I bought them all myself because I wanted to play that kind of game. (In fact, my kids didn't exist before most of those consoles came out.)

  18. Kids console? on Is the Wii U Already Dead? · · Score: 2

From the great 20th century author C.S. Lewis:
“When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

Likewise, I'm in my 30s and I have zero interest in the PS4 right now because the vast majority of the games shown were violent M rated games or sports games. That's fine if that's what you're in to, but I want to play something fun. For me, Nintendo is a perfect fit.

If the Wii U is struggling it's not because it's a "kids console", it's because they put out boring M rated games as launch games. If I was Ubisoft, I would have made sure Rayman Legends was a launch game, not Assasins Creed III. If I was Nintendo, I would have made sure there was at least one other killer first party game out at launch (Pikmin 3 perhaps?).

I think the problem is correctable. I think the Wii U will bounce back. Do I care if every foul mouthed racist 10 year old has a Wii U? Nope. Let Nintendo make games that cater towards me, not little kids with something to prove.

  19. Or they could just do what Nintendo does... on The End Is Near for GameStop · · Score: 1

Nintendo prevents reselling of used games by making the games so good that few copies make it to GameStop. Often times a used Nintendo game sells for more at GameStop than a new copy anywhere else. Why? Little supply. As the saying goes, Nintendoes what Sony and Microsoft don't.
