What happens when your PC dies? How do you recover using the now useless backups? There's bound to be a way to bypass that. Sounds like the data requires a physical key (sentry?). Someone somehow will bypass it.
How many of you have actually traced down an IP address to find its origin? I know I'm not the only one. The first thing you find out is that the IP address is registered in Latin America or some other part of the world where we have no jurisdiction. The second thing you find out is that there is no way to do anything about their perceived illegal activities. I say perceived, because it may be un-legislated activity where they come from.
I say all of this because I don't think there's a single thing we can do to prevent those outside our country from doing this over and over and over again.
So you're the person who has never paid for advertising by purchasing anything with a name brand on it!
You pay retail prices that include money to pay for advertising time. Ask some of those failed dotcoms that advertised heavily during the 2000 Super Bowl if TV is free.
And you've got a constant Internet connection? First thing you need to do then is buy a router. Seriously. Second, check to see that someone didn't set up a hidden share on your box and start dumping files on it. Also check to see what kind of outgoing network traffic you've got. Your box may have been turned into one of the spam boxes I hate so much. It's irresponsible, at best, not to implement security. Your box won't be disabled by outsiders, most likely. Instead, it'll be turned into a tool working for someone else. Inform yourself before you start saying how you're unaffected. Ignorance should be unacceptable, not a platform to stand on.
And who do you think will foot the bill over the next 2 to 3 years?
If you don't know how to answer this correctly, riddle me this: How did Microsoft make most of its money? If there's a price to pay, we're going to pay it. Directly or indirectly, we'll (those who use Microsoft products, which is the majority of computer users, like it or not) have to pay it.
This reminds me of professional sports. Teams don't pay players. We do. Same goes for advertising, etc. We always pay.
I wouldn't get too worked up over this for my own personal usability, because I'll do the same. It's legal; why the heck not? Turning my back on this issue is a crappy thing to do (not as bad as what MS is doing), but for right now, I dodged a bullet.
In the meantime, I'm working on my wife's attitude. She's opening up to the idea of a Mac Mini. That'll solve those pesky MS issues the right way. "Hit 'em where it hurts!"
If it's not in the browser, you're probably right.
What about a tray minimizer though? I use 4T Tray Minimizer Free 4.22. One of the options of the full version is to ALWAYS run certain apps in the system tray. I'm sure whatever tray minimizing app you may have tried in the past might do that too. Just a thought.
Another thought... What do you want to bet they require Windows/IE?
I never have caught on to the blogging thing. The only times I ever look at a blog is when it's sent to me as a link (usually because a pic of a hot chick accompanies it).
No soup for you!

It's funny when you say the verbs like they're present tense and stuff.
"Tell me again about the WinFS, George." . . "Okay, Lenny..."
Insightbull. FAT or NTFS. No FAT32. FAT32 is not an option.
Thanks, Kent.
Remember when Intel announced processor identification? They were slaughtered! They ended up shipping P3's with this feature turned off.

Practically useless, if you ask me.

Symantec should follow suit. Not that viruses are the central focus they once were.
I don't generally try to mediate arguments, but you guys need to get along.
kewl. downloading as we speak. gracias!
I refuse to play RealMedia files. I'm out. (yes, I saw the QuickTime link)

or Office Space (a true classic)
Ditto. If that window injection vulnerability didn't scare you, you're a fool (or maybe you were simply not aware of it).
BTW, 1.0.1 did indeed fix it. Just mentioning that because the headline says presumably. Nice research!

No, he said something about saving it to a file system that doesn't support files larger than 2GB. Try burning a 3GB file onto a DVD.
Blogging, IMHO, is overrated.
That must be old. It's all black and white. Of course, My Favorite Martian was too, so that makes sense.
No wait. He was from Mars. Hmm. That is something to think about.
I can sum this up in about 12 words: You're an idiot. (repeat 4 times)
Dear dummy,
Next time you plan to speak derogitorally about us, we'd suggest you post anonymously.
Sincerely,
Google
P.S. You know that GMAIL invitation you just got? You can forget it now (unless you like spam). Whooo hoo haa ha ha ha ha.
