    Its quite possible he doesn't have much of a choice, (he's using Adelphia, which means his only high-speed competition is the telco), he could host his own site - using a dynamic dns solution, or he could pay for a seperate webhost.

    Yes, windows SATA and SCSSI drivers are a real pain without a floppy drive. And with Free Software, it is hit-and-miss, but a floppy isn't going to help you there.

    and also, don't force them to take gym if they are already excersizing 20+ hours a week, its just pointless. I remember having to make up a swim class in gym, because I missed the class for a swim meet.

    I think the Original Post meant that his website had been taken over as part of a phishing scam, and he patched the vulnerability that allowed the takeover.

    Imagine trying to sell a car named No va in a spanish-speaking country.

    Linux can be slightly less locked down than windows, Im not sure if schools do it - but things like User Mode Linux can allow students to do whatever they want in a self-contained, secure environment.

    What about providing ftp? It really sounds to be exactly like what your looking for, but I might be missing something.

    How about using something that already exists, like opennic?

    It is a currently running, non-profit organization that provides its own set of root DNS servers. They resolve all of the official domains(with the exception of .biz, because there is a dispute over it), and several others, like .oss (open source software).

    I meant natively, so that X.org wouldn't have to be running. You could even staticly link against the library, and have a single binary.

    Before MMORPGs can become fun, they need to seriously change. Everything needs to be interactive, the world completely dynamic and persistant. Levels make for a grind doing one thing while you want to be doing another - skills make more sense, and are more realistic. By far the best attempt Ive seen is Ages of Athiria which is being developed in house, and hasn't made any public(even NDA) releases yet.

    You're probably going to run out of water, so you will have to leave your computer.

    And wouldn't it be nice to get up and take a break while you're pouring heat into the envirionment and wasting CPU cycles? Its not like Gentoo needs much interaction during the install.

    Umm hands full with IE6? The only way to properly secure IE6 is to make it so the user can't even change their homepage. You could even allow users to install extensions for them only with firefox (from a list of approved sites, and only approved sites).

    There's different levels, and only the highest levels have publiccly available addresses.

    That is slightly different. IE reports as Mozilla Compatible. As it has been explained to me, browsers that did not mark themselves as such got much less rich content from webservers.

    Actually the laws state that you can't go faster than the speed of light, not that you can't reach it.
    I can imagine two ways that FTL travel can be achieved:
    1. Folding to make the distance shorter.
    2. Taking advantage the fact that light is just an average.
