    Yes, but there are a few problems: 1. other rootkits are not documented so well. 2. other rootkits are not coming with a nice installer 3. other rootkits you may not own legally (is this legal?) 4. other rootkits are not so easily usable, here you just rename a folder to $sys$* Now with this hype every script kiddie will buy a DRM enhanced Sony CD and spice up their own viruses with minimal work.

    You just allowed to install an innocuous media player, sure it wants to write in the registry! Why would anyone disable it. On the other hand, everyone should disable autorun, and look for executables on a sound cd only when they cannot play the tracks by conventional methods. (wmp, winamp etc).

    You forgot the 'fiction' part. Star Trek is sci-fi With that lot of techno babble, it cannot be fantasy. It doesn't have to be actual science, or even future science. If there are particles, warp drive and such, instead of magic and dragons, it is sci-fi :) Star Wars is a curious mixture, but it is still considered sci-fi. If you want to see real fantasy, check out Conan, or the Lord of the Rings.

    I don't know if it is criminal or not, but violating the GPL equals to violating copyright law, unless you got another license (in case of dual licensing) to hide behind.

    A possible angle: A non-rewritable DVD can't have protection like playing it 5 times then going trash. A hard drive version could maintain a counter and then self-destruct.

    Funny you say that. When I was seven and sitting in the bathtub, i frequently played with soap foam galaxies. They formed, separated and collided. Until the water got too cold and all of the galaxies got flushed in the drain.

    Solaris isn't even as 'free' as Linux. MacOSX isn't free at all. So I wonder why are they even brought up. Abolishing the GPL would benefit M$ only. I think it is quite good that we have Linux AND the BSDs. Everyone can pick the best for their taste, and shut up about the licenses. Who cares if Linux doesn't work for everyone, it works for me :)

    No, he donated the money I had to pay him because i was forced to write my documents (school, office) in M$ Word, or because I was sold a computer with pre-installed Windows. He stole money from many people like me and then gave back a tiny fraction it.
