    The crawlers used to build the cable/ribbon will be run out to the end of the tether and used as counterweight. Likewise the crawlers used to lift cargo will be run out to the end as counterweight.

    So where are the props for NASA? Everyone is so quick to knock them when they have difficulty, but I see little praise for their missions of great success.

    NASA does have its problems. The administrator is working to get the agency out from under the shuttle and space station. But there are lots of other programs worthy of accolades. http://www.nasa.gov/missions/timeline/current/curr ent_missions.html

    While this nomenclature will never satisfy the sticklers for proper prefix usage, it is an accepted classification for small satellites in the aerospace field. And I would doubt that U of Toronto coined the term

    If we are going to pipe flood water out of flooded coastal cities, are we not going to have to desalinate that water? If that is the case, why bother waiting for flood waters? We've got the oceans themselves right there.

    NASA already has a couple nanosat programs that will fly in formation. They are sometimes refered to as constellation missions.

    If the this underground system were "powered by the laws of physics" as you say, would it not have even farther below sea level? So you would need a system in place that protected the reservoir like the city itself.

    We could use a system of pumps and levees... or better yet! We could build and even bigger reservoir! Yeah thats it! It could be an order of magnitude bigger than the first one. But the new reservoir would need to be even farther below sea level, so we would need to protect it with a system of...

    As an engineer that works in vibration and structural dynamics of spacecraft, my first response is "that is a horsecrap definition". I suppose I simply hold to the physics definition, since the engineering context of vacuum does not come up in my line of work often.

    I'll have to ask my wife when she gets home. She is an engineer as well and this past year has started working with a product line of suction and oxygen therapy hospital equipment.

    While the per day fee that Uhaul charges is low, the milage charge is what will get you. $1.29 per mile on the weekend in the Washington DC area. All things considered, its not a terrible price. But my $29.99 per day truck cost me about $150 after milage and fuel. Plus, I didn't even get a full day for that price. Only 7am to 3pm.

    The "pusher-bot" as you called it is already apart of the mission weather we save HST or not. Althought it will be pushing in the other direction. Its called the deorbit module. It is half of the robotic mission that will fly regardless of the decision to save HST.

    The sense of fixing Hubble with a robotic mission is that you get more than just a fixed telescope for your money. NASA would be building the robotics expertise that will be required to carry out the missions we will see in the future. Robotic lunar/martian exploration. There is much more benefit from the robotics mission that most people are giving credit.

    There are many people who are whole heartedly behind the robotics servicing mission. It would be a great boost the the robotics expertise that will be required to carry out the mandates of future exploration. Those working on the robotics mission have won over most of the people that have come to see the capabilities they can demonstrate. People don't want to spend all that money JUST to save HST. What some fail to realize is the investment in future missions that would be made by going forth with the HST robotic service mission.
