sorry, that's somewhat surreal to me.. like Eugene Belford just told me i'm a console cowboy..
i definitely understand the specialist field argument, but that really really doesn't stack up when you look at the other side of it. The employee is either multi-skilled OR they are stuck in a situation where they cannot work in their chosen field without breeching the previous employer's contract. For programmers this may not be so bad, but i'm sure there are many professions in which you don't really have the same flexibility as programming, or where the specialist skills are required by only two or three major competing firms...
Just makes it seem like the employers are protecting themselves at the expense of their employees. I realize it's not a particularly strong point, but i'm used to my employer actually wanting me to stay and offering incentives to that end.
mm.. perhaps i should have prefixed.. 'if they're gunna hate Americans..'
seriously tho, twas meant to be funny.. while i agree that, internationally, most people don't like the American government, most American people are ok..
Asking because i honestly want to know, and keeping mind that i don't live in America, so my experiences are totally different..
don't you feel the slightest bit of hostility from your employer? I mean.. i simply wouldn't want to work for a company that trusted me so little they felt that they had to make me legally obliged to avoid their competitors..
Except that the system is already in place and accommodates that. The employers know that they may have to wait a month or two to get a potential employee, and if they're worth it they are generally willing to wait, unless there's a pressing reason not to.
It works this way in a lot of places (not just Europe), and it works pretty well.
so in order to create a Pirate Ninja, you'd have to make them breed while vibrating in a vacuum, something that both pirates and ninjas should be able to survive, for at least 2 minutes (or 10, if the pirate's name is Guybrush).
Making them agree to the proposition might be difficult, unless the Ninja is a hot kunoichi and the pirate is played by Johnny Depp...
Please don't make me bring up what former heads-of-the-CIA have testified about in the past.
You do realize that the current one is the one responsible for the abuse of FISA and the warantless wiretaps of US citizens, right? Yeah, i know that's immaterial to North Korea's (lack of) missile capability.
no, buddy.. you're modded troll because you were inciting them.. perhaps flamebait would be more appropriate, but you got modded down because of your own statements.
I dig why you'd be upset, but it ain't good karma.
Indeed it does. There are also several viable alternatives which don't need to run under wine.
I'm still eager to hear about this windows educational software with no alternative under linux.. Perhaps the GP meant this indispensable educational software... It's as likely as anything else..
or, of course, ol' reliable win-r..
I've seen so many systems configured to remove 'run' from the start menu.. most of them forgot to remove the shortcuts tho..
I'm also in the beta. The ads are in a lot of places in the town areas.. plastered would probably be an accurate way of describing it.. they're not, however, intrusive. In fact, despite the fact that they're everywhere, i found myself actually looking at them the other day trying to work out what the hell they were for.. They fit the art style quite well, they're dirty, deliberately pretty hard to see and even harder to read..
If it wasn't for the fact that the EULA seems to say that they can survey whatever system i run it on and collect the results (and if it didn't have bad memory leaks) i'd have no problem with this game at all.
Really, it's a pretty fun game too, assuming your favorite part of diablo wasn't the clicking...
dammit.. i must have missed that. Oh well, more time to play other games before Brawl destroys my life and the lives of everyone around me ;)
I just don't know why people keep misspelling "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" like that..
ok, ok.. Rock Band and Mass Effect look pretty awesome too..

The very definition of irony is that while you were probably joking, this is the reason the Rest Of The World doesn't really like Americans..

i dunno which one you saw, but the one i watched had KMFDM's stray bullet innit.
point taken, your subtlety is noted :P

FFT is ok.. but i've just started my fourth independent runthrough of Disgaea.
;)
Far superior. Much longer (especially if you get into it past the storyline), more complex, loads of unlockables, etc..
disclaimer: i figure if i promote the damn game enough, nippon ichi will actually make more of them
You've obviously never worked in the music industry before.
The musicians foot ALL the bills.
They CAN all be wrong. Even if they disagree with each other :P
I think this thread may be the most learner-friendly thready i've ever read on /.
what happened to geek territorialism? sooner or later we'll start cooperating at this rate..
Kudos guys, for having the patience to explain that to him.
the extra 300% will be to power the northbridge, bus, ram and the industrial cooler needed to prevent it melting.
I think i'm in love with your aesthetics.
i'm wasn't sure that Eve counted in this competition, but then i remembered WoW..

ok, give us some examples.. And no, saying that Word doesn't run under *nux is not acceptable.
Do you realize that you actually furthered the GP's argument?
Obsession with national security, an 'Us vs. Them' mentality, coercion via scaremongering..
whatever happened to 'all men created equal'? I personally found that a somewhat more tangible metric than 'in god we trust'
honestly... No. I don't remember a time like that.
