Reliable information, no, but Nintendo has said that the Revolution would be about three times more powerful than the Gamecube (probably much more honest than MS or Sony).* As the Gamecube uses a 485MHz G3 processor, that suggests to me a single G4 or G5-type processor in the 1.2 to 1.5GHz range. Sounds good to me, and well within the realm of possibility. I don't think we'll see anything terribly exotic like those rumors say.
Even with watercooling, you still have to blow air over the radiators to move the heat out. The high end G5s appear to have the same fans (two in front of the processors, two behind) as to low end models.
Mounting a drive cage in front of the fans has to disrupt the airflow a bit, though I can't imagine it would actually harm the computer. Most likely the fans would just spin at a higher-than-normal RPM. Since Apple advertises "quiet operation" as a design feature of the G5, they can't make something like this stock. But I don't buy that there's no effect.
The only place to give a G5 more hard drives without disrupting airflow is to put them in an external enclosure. I suppose you could remove the optical drive to an external enclosure and put a couple of hard drives in its place.
AMD does have more advanced processors. Intel is catching up with the desktop version of the Pentium-M, however. Apple is perfectly capable of switching to another x86 manufacturer in the future- such a change would be trivial compared to what's just been announced.
More importantly, I think, is Intel's manufacturing capability, which is an order of magnitude greater than either AMD's or IBM's. No more supply problems. Ever.
...because the game I'm most looking forward to, Spore, is entirely comprised of elements of past games. Being innovative isn't everything. Sometimes, it's how you make the game.
Too true. Airliners can only go up to 50000 feet or so, well within the range of surface-to-air missiles. You don't even need a carrier, just a ring or two of cheap platforms with SAMs. Bad as it sounds, an investment on the scale of a space elevator would be worth killing a few hundred people over.
According to this interview, the Xbox 360 will support VGA-out. We'll have to see if computer monitors will work, but I don't see why not. It will be a decade before I or most of my friends will be able to afford an HDTV, and I'm not buying a console if I have to drop another three grand to use it.
Yeah, but the thing is, only one person has to take the trouble to do that. After that, Fairly good quality MP3s are on the internet and nobody else has to work hard.
Okay. Here you go. I downloaded this last night because I wanted to see what NS8 looked like (the default theme is terrible), so it should have the latest security fixes. And it still messes with IE.
(Note: Rapidshare is not a permanent hosting solution. If a file goes un-downloaded for thirty days, they delete it. But I'm cheap and it's free.)
Apple's products are a step above what you get in the PC world. They are probably even from the same vendors as the PC products, but manufactured to a higher specification.
Do a Google search on Hon Hai Precision Industry, aka Foxconn. Macs are made by the same company that makes HPs and Dells. You really think they are made of different quality components? The only difference I can think of is the processor, IBM vs Intel.
I like my Mac, and I like my Windows PC, but they are of essentially equal quality and have the same chance of lasting through the years. If you want to talk about industrial design, or software quality, that's a whole other thing.
But when it comes to SPACEFLIGHT -- 2005 is shaping up to be a banner year!
Yeah, NASA might actually launch a shuttle this year.

I live in a neighborhood without a HOA. I'm pretty sure none of my neighbors live in shacks or trailers. Looks out the window...nope. No junk, either. Just fresh-cut grass and parked minivans. What fuckwad modded you insightful?
It's no dual Opteron server, but this Dan's Data article reviews what are probably the cheapest 1U servers you can buy. Definitely something to consider of you're going for cheap.

Now, the day Wil Wheaton gets a hot girl...
Oh...he did?
ALL RIGHT!
This is uncomfortable and humiliating. Now, if they could put it in the form of a suppository...

EXTREME! just makes everything better. See: Intel EXTREME! Graphics; Wormhole EXTREME!
You just can't go wrong with EXTREME! superlatives.
I shielded my eyes as best I could and looked only at the "Maxis" logo.

She probably just visits normal childrens' sites. Apparently they're pretty bad.
I think that would be an "M" rating (Governer Rod wants to ban console spanking! The horror!).

The real US price is more like $460, at which the Dell is still a better deal. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a Dell ;)
