Besides we also have powerless routing! We even told you years ago (see RFC1149 http://www.blug.linux.no/rfc1149/ "A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers").
So celebrate all ya want, bipod just don't run out of my crackers!
I would also venture to state that any savings received from turning off your computers is offset by hardware failure caused from thermal cycling. I've found that there is far less "wear and tear" when you set bios to sleep rather then power off and on in the morning.
Sure wifi allowed access to the start page, but the same weakness (lam0r administration) would show up on lets say a wired public terminal. Wifi just makes criminal actions so much harder to catch.
"NASA had a single second - at precisely eight seconds past 1:47 p.m. - to send Deep Impact on a 431-million-kilometre, six-month voyage to Comet Tempel 1" Missing this window of oportunity will prevent the residents of ISS their yearly alotment of ice, a necessary precursor for snowcones.
"A fine example is Google Groups, which has gone back under the knife and is really flaky in the new Beta incarnation."
Not to mention how sucky the "new" interface is. Jeeze, dejanews had a clean interface. When it 1st became "Googlefied" it was fine, now it's allmost unusable! Such a waste of historic archives.
Same deal (not accounting for any carrier agreements) the picocell IS the only service provider. Your cell phone won't see any stronger signal, so it can't phone home (for you Sprint).
It's a money maker because they can capture all signals (assuming the picocell is a cdma, 3g, tdma or what ever abortion Nextel is running).
"Now there can be an end to the airline's monopoly on in-flight Internet access"
If you mean using gprs on a gsm phone, or any of your own phone connection you'll probably still pay. I bet the signal from the "picocell" would be a roaming signal with a high premium.
I don't understand why people want a browser that has a POP and NEWS client built in? If I want to use POP I use my POP client (not outhouse). If I want to use NNTP I use a NEWS client.

That's because you don't live there. What if we're too stupid to recognize a type of life that does?
We're already trashing up the place!
The "perfectly functioning" jump ship I learned with at Perris is a perfect example.

The minute you block anything, you are setting youself up. At that point you are no longer a carrier, you are a content provider.

Five. Everyone knows that!
