    What you basicly said is that Apple has hidden the root account. That is a lot different from removing it. Well you cant really remove it because that is just the way Unix systems work ( OK not Unix but *n?x||*BSD ). BTW KDE doesnt allow root logins without disabling the option in a config file. So Apple isnt the only one hiding root accounts.

    Yet. What prevents me from writing and distributing some super-cool KDE/Gnome/X screensaver that trojans your machine, trashes file on a semi-random basis and turns your machine into a spam relay?

    Err if you are sending it to a n00b they would either need to get it via a package from the distro's www site (e.g. Mandrake). Or download and chmod the file then run. KDE doesnt let you run files just by clicking on them. It makes you type it out then asks you if you are really sure.

    Took something like this once .. It wanted me to run notepad so i went Start -> Run -> "notepad" -> Enter. And the program gave me a fail. Why ? Because it wanted me to go Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad. How stupid is that ?

    Err... "root" not "administratior". Anyway i think that linux has better support for "lesser" users in both less power and more power. For less power you can basicly deny a user from doing just about anything ( CD writting, printing, etc ) while "power users" can be allowed to do quite alot ...

    Yes but Apple makes sure that even when their software bloats it doesnt grind the system does to a halt.

    M$ kernel is the only one that i know of that when it is low on resources will make the whole system go "sticky" then "freeze"

    If Linus had written the kernel in a full IDE on the fastest computer avalible to him would that make him more geekish than if he had written it in VI on a slow computer ?

    I would think he did the latter.

    I prefer source.

    That way i can run it on what ever arch takes my fancy ( Not to mention it would allow me/others to write CLI versions of it ).

    And removed them. Successfully. (whereas Ad-aware would have just quarantined them).

    Errr and how is quarantining worse than deletion ??
    I personally would find quarantining a feature because .. well sometimes computers *do* make mistakes and i prefer it if they can undo the mistakes.

    Err i have about 5 of them .... and i have 5 sound cards in total ..

    Why does everybody complain about driver support with linux ? The 2.6 kernels support just about everything "well" and the 2.4 kernels "mostly"

    I am quite fond of UBCD because it has a heap of floppy disk images that i can boot from on a CD ...

    Like memtest86 and Ranish Partition Manager

    Although it isnt a linux boot disk ( some of the earlier versions had RIP on it but im not too sure if it is still there ) it has saved my computer more than once.

    I agree that WMA is a *good* format, but with *great* open source formats like FLAC and OGG arround, i wonder if it worth selling our privacy to MS for a good format ?

    But still i do find it good that MS users have a decent format that they can call their own.

    Businesses only use IIS because they can buy it ( and get things like techs who have a certificate from MS [ yeah i know those "qualifications" are a joke ]).
    Seriously do u think the head tech for a 10mil company would use something that didnt cost anything ?

    I am currently building a CMS for a company, and the scripts are made to run on apache and PHP not IIS and ASP, why ? Because it doesnt matter to me whether it costs anything or not, but instead i look at other thinks ( like being about to run it on my 100MHz server at home while the site is being developed [ in the end it will be running on a two ~1GHz cpus ] ).

    Anyway why dont we see worms that use an exploit in apache ? Even if all 65% is teenagers blogs they are just as suitable as zombie hosts ( *cough* blaster *cough*).

    Yeah but do you belive that stuff they say ?

    Anyway why can't MS make betas that are stable ?
    I use aMSN 0.94 and ndiswrapper 0.11 and never *never* have had a problem with them.

    If the guy has the technical knowledge and time to write a program the comlex in PHP why doesnt he write it in C or something ? That way he doesnt need to install apache or php and i guess mysql ( not to mention making sure he isnt hacked while on-air ).

    I didnt thing of this but .. what about some IM stuff ? that technology has been arround for yonks and would be very stable.
