Toughest bit of electronica I ever had was my old Ironman wristwatch. After 12 or so years of constant use, I had to replace it only because the buttons had worn down and couldn't make a connection anymore.

The crowning compliment ever given this model was from a guy I knew who jousted on the ren faire circuit. He wore his under his gauntlet every day for well over 6 years: mud, horsecrap, and beatings from the other jousters never fazed the thing.

  8. Re:Too much buying power... on Wal-Mart Controls Modern Game Design? · · Score: 1

That is a good idea unless you live in a rural or low density suburb where the local Wal-Mart has created a monopoly on retail access.

Congratulations - you win the "Most Specious Argument in the Thread" award!

These areas had smaller retailers that serviced the populace prior to the Wal-Mart invasion. It's standard procedure for W-M to drop prices in new locations below profit level to drive the local retailers out of business, then raise them to standard levels once the competition dries up. If people hadn't swarmed into W-M to save a few pennies, there might still be smaller retailers in the area.

  10. "Let slip the dogs of law" on Banned From WoW For WINE & Programmable Keyboard · · Score: 1

All the folks advocating legal remedies and class-action suits should keep one thing in mind. If the courts decide that the character is worth X amount of dollars for the purposes of damages, or worse yet that the equipment of said character is worth X dollars, that would be the "foot in the door" for the IRS to levy taxes on accounts and in-game trading.

Don't think that's realistic? They've already stated unofficially that loot is taxable (the story was here on /.) - if they get any case law on their side, that would be the beginning of the end of MMOG.

  11. Cheat - period on Gold Buying - Time Saver or Cheating? · · Score: 0

It's a cheat and it degrades the experience for the other players.

I place the blame squarely with Blizzard though. How hard would it be to implement a server dedicated to players who want to buy gold, the way servers are dedicated to PvP, PvE, or roleplaying? This way, they could control the purchase and sale of gold, thereby giving those who want to play this way a EULA-compliant way of doing it, which would pretty much dry up the farmers market. Who would want to risk getting banned when they could easliy go to the gold buyout server?

  17. Wizard's Quest mod on Fun Tabletop Games? · · Score: 1

I highly recommend the Avalon Hill game, Wizard's Quest. It's great fun, but for a REAL challemge, you merely need to change one rule: no maximum for orc pieces (they're the "NPC" army on the board). The way the game generates them every round turns this into a real race-against-the-clock! We have had games where the orcs won.

If you'll accept another card game, the one based on Groo is a sure-fire hit. Very silly and very fun!!!
(I also have to agree with the person who suggested CheapAss Games. "Kill Dr Lucky" is a classic)
