    most of europe uses 230V since quite a few years now and 220V is a thing of the past:

    equipment designed for 220V still works on 230V because of built-in voltage tolerances but new equipment should really be designed for 230V not 220V
    i still see brand new chinese crap being labeled with 220V though and in those devices the circuits inside REALLY expect 220v with very little tolerance for overvoltage.

    the direct link is also useful because the download is only shown after you provide them with an email address.

    When you do that they subscribe you to their mandatory mailing list BUT YOU ONLY FIND ABOUT THIS after you "confirm the download" by clicking the download link in your email at which point you are told you have been subscribed automatically. They do not tell you about this AT ANY POINT before you download.
    fortunately I used a mailinator address to get the link without the mail spam in my real inbox.

    i only want a single thing from sony (all of them): see them file for a chapter 7 bankruptcy

    i've had enough of them.
    they were a name for quality products up until about 15 years ago but since then it all went downhill: quality plummeted, rootkits, lies and deceptions, lawsuits against fans, and so on. I haven't bought a single product made by them during these last few years and i even refuse to support products made by them.
    If i get calls for service to a sony product i let the poor guy have an earful about why i refuse to support any sony product AT ALL.

    In december 2008 i got a WRT-160n as a christmas present... oh boy.
    I had the misfortune to get the WRT-160n with V2 hardware. Since then, i always installed the latest firmware on it (currently it is at 11/15/2010 - Ver.2.0.03 Build 9) and i still have to power-cycle it every day, sometimes even twice a day. The darn thing is VERY unstable and freezes&locks up when you need it most.

    I keep looking for dd-wrt support for it but the dd-wrt team has officially given up on creating a firmware for the v2 hardware because it is just THAT crappy :(

    there's even a poem circulating around about the crappiness of this router:

    P.S.
      about the patent thing... this smells to me like patent system abuse... ronja was already using LEDs for network communications in 1998, using an AUI interface.
    the only addition these guys made is mounting a ronja system into a light frame and using spectrum filters to filter out normal light

    how can you patent such an obvious usage?

    this is better than current IRDA used by laptops because that one is slow and a pain in the rear to use. Also, light is less vulnerable to interference / interception than wifi

    From what i see in the summary description from the article they are using a modified RONJA design but instead of the long-range with narrow beam they adapted it for a wide angle with a way smaller distance, fit for office ceiling usage.

    A RONJA optical network has been capable of working at 10 mbps full duplex at 1,4 KILOMETERS (about 0.9 miles) since 2008

    NotionInk has announced that their Adam tablet will have a back-side touchpad MORE than 13 months ago if i remember correctly, and now sony goes on to PATENT NotionInk's idea?

    Talk about a new low for sony... patent troll & ip thief in adition to their activities with rootkits & mafiaa :(

    How the patent office could have granted such a patent on a publically-announced feature from NotionInk is unbelievable. With this i cannot see how NotionInk can launch the Adam tablet in US without being sued by sony :(

    no password at all? try "impossible to even set a password"

    on December 19th 2008 i bought a Sweex LW300 wireless router ( http://sweex.nl/lw300 ) only to discover that the damn telnet service would not require a password AT ALL if you connected from the inside network.

    Even if i set a password for the web admin interface, cycled power two or three times, it was all for nothing. The telnet service was left wide open for anyone on the internal network (including wireless). Not even the passwd command was working.

    When i saw this i promptly returned the damn box and got a linksys instead (this was on December 22nd).

    Unfortunately the replacement linksys router i got is another piece of crap and i was stuck with that. I found i was given the V2 of WRT160N only when i unwrapped the box at home.
    WRT160N V2 is a piece of crap (ralink chipset => random router crashes, no ddwrt/openwrt on it) that made me avoid ever buying another Cisco/Linksys. All the routers i bought since then for our customers were other brands, in total about 10 thousand euros of lost sales for Cisco/Linksys because of that one crap router they saddled me with for Christmas 2008. You can imagine how that Christmas felt like :(

    If I was a big electronics geek I could theoretically set up a pair of toy laser pointers + some light sensors to allow me to relay internet traffic by line of sight (with crappy bandwidth) but that wouldn't be that much more complex than what they seem to be talking about.

    this book is already obsolete, joomla 1.6 is almost ready to be released as stable, currently it's in a state of public beta testing (beta 2).

    there are enormous differences between 1.5 and 1.6, menus are in different places, API has changed a lot (templates for 1.5 won't work for 1.6 without major changes) and so on.
