Destroying all the digital music out there and all. =) But, I guess market share doesn't mean much.

  14. Re:It was only a matter of time on iTunes Might Lose Labels · · Score: 1

The reason why Apple is unwilling to work with artist directly is due to the court case that they are having with the Apple Record company, think Beetles, and that Apple is not suppose to become a record company. Signing up artist directly would make them a record company. They need to tiptoe around this so that they can offer the artist tracks online, while not being conidered a record company, but a music store. As far as I know, Apple has put down contract on the table for any record lable that wants to come on board, as long as its $.99 a song. That is why I say greed is probably the reason why. That even though indy artist don't mind, the labels they are on do. I know the labels are going to try and get their artist as much money too. So its some what a catch 22 for the label, get the artist on iTunes but don't get them much money, or hold out for more money, but don't get on iTunes. I would go with the first and hope full more money later, but who knows. You are an artist, but have you asked your manager or exec at your lable why they haven't tried to get you on iTunes if you are not already.

  15. Re:It was only a matter of time on iTunes Might Lose Labels · · Score: 1

Apple was able to keep the price at $.99 for so long is due to they had contracts with the music companies up to 2006 that said songs are $.99 and only $.99. Now that contract is coming to a close. Record companies don't want to sign up again until Apple raises the prices so they can make more money. Greed will kill the iTunes store, not Apple doing what the customers want, and thats a quick and cheap form of getting music.

The reason why independant artist are not on the iTunes music store, is probably for this same reason. The musician wants to charge $1.49 a song while Apple wants it to be $.99 like all the others. Again, its greed.

  19. Re:RAID isn't all about redundancy on Intel and Laptop RAID? · · Score: 1

Well... If you have one drive thats slow, and it does a read, it has to go from start to finish on its own. Like in a race, one runner, going from start to finish, say, all 10 miles. Two drives would be like two runners starting at opposite ends, only needing to run 5 miles at the same slow pace, and you get done in half the time. That is the basic idea behind this even though you wont cut read times in half like my runner analogy does. You can then also slow the drives down more, so that it takes the same amount of time as one drive, and the drives will use less energy. This adds redundancy if one drive goes out but energy efficency. If one does, the other can speed up and complete and still give performance till the other drive is replaced.

You don't realize how important this is till you need it. Any one person at my company needed this twice within a month. Though his stuff was on the server, he was without a working computer for a day. And he is a remote user across the country so it wasn't like I could just hand him another laptop.

  20. Possible way on Building Secure Computers? · · Score: 1

You could use a RAID 0 for the drives to make it less likely to steal the drives out of it. That you couldn't just walk out with just one drive and have all the info. Especially if you are working with large files and the system writes to both to keep speed hight. That someone would have to take all the drives to have all the info. This could last line of defense for what the person has to get out of the building with. And if they try for one drive one day, another the next, the PC will crap out on them since one drive is missing, thus drawing attention. But as they always say, nothing is safe unless its locked in a safe, and not powered on.
