It's true that Chuck Norris was the password, but not just anyone could use it.
FTFA
I should also say that it was only available internally. If I were to log in from a high school or library, I couldn’t use it. You had to be in the Facebook office, using the Facebook ISP.
I'm seeing a lot of "bah, humbug" responses to this article, especially regarding the subject of concentration/learning/etc., but i think that it's quite possible that this shift in paradigms of communication has a broader reach than we are currently considering.
If more people are more connected, doesn't this mean that there will be more collaborative projects? maybe the "hive mind" will replace a lot of the expertise we currently value?
As a teacher, i am especially interested to see how this interconnectedness affects learning and schooling. It's conceivable that in 30 years, we won't be teaching the knowledge via memorization of facts, but instead teaching the knowledge of where to go to look/who to talk to in order to obtain those facts.
Will this affect how people assemble bits of information? sure, but maybe the collective mind can produce something as good as, or better than what one person can construct on their own...
maybe it's a load of hooey, but as a teacher i can't afford to not think about these things
how exactly are they going to know if you are texting? there are just about a hundred million things you can do with modern phones these days. what about taking videos/pictures/checking your voicemail/dialing/etc. etc.
all of these things require typing stuff in your phone, right?
that comes as a surprise to me. 3 out of the 4 latest shows have been incredibly good (hero, unfinished business, the eye of jupiter). I suggest checking them out if you haven't yet.
man, if you think voyager is the worst star trek....you're one lucky person
although i'm not sure if i could even go so far as to call "enterprise" a star trek.
dear citizens of china,
seriously guys, the amount of stuff you're willing to put up with is freaking me out. a lot. perhaps you should so something about that government you've got? just a suggestion.
-jimfinity
p.s. i just realized that due to the subject matter of this letter, your government probably won't let you see it. case in point.
people constantly complaining about how this stuff "isn't news" or "doesn't belong on slashdot"
just because you aren't interested in playing world of warcraft doesn't mean other people won't find this interesting. I don't care at all about, say...VOIP, but i don't start threads saying "HOW IS THIS NEWS?!?!?!" whenever a VOIP article comes up. i just don't bother reading or posting on those topics.
please try to understand that while you don't care about this game, there are more than 6 million people out there who do.
you can already get fined hundreds of dollars in my town if you're a kid (less than 18 years old) and out past midnight on a public sidewalk
heck, once i was pulled over under the guise of having out-of-date lisence plates, when in reality i was being pulled over because the police officer thought i had too many teenagers in my car and i looked suspicious.
the police officer actually asked everyone in my car for our IDs and looked each of us over before saying "you want to hear a funny joke? your plates aren't actually expired, i just thought they were when i started pulling you over and had to commit to the pull over"
are they implying that those self-checkout lanes are faster?
it seems that every time i go through one of those things i have to get some manager over there to "ok" my purchases. whether it's a "violent adult videogame" (half-life 2) or isopropyl alcohol to keep my car's gas lines freeze free (recreational drinking?).
they've been such a hassle for me i don't even use them anymore.
um....are you calling him an asshole because he corrected you? because correcting someone is exactly what you were doing in your initial post when you pointed out it "wasn't in the form of a question."

There are many explanations, none of them happy-making
There's a drug for that.
they'll teach you how to interact with others, and you'll get to meet a bunch of new and funny people.

This raises the question...has anyone actually ever had sex in space? http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a4_214.html

you took the words right out of my mouth

can someone rate it for me? say, on a scale between 1 (farscape) and 10 (the new battlestar)?
It might just be more feasible to get rid of pennies altogether.

here is an article i have found to be particularly illuminating.

yeah yeah...new alliance race, i'm thrilled.
but what about the real MEAT of the expansion information?
jewelcrafting? how will it work. what abilities will it give us? where will we get these jewels? what items will be socketed?
new abilities? what abilities will each class have? will they just be updated verisons of old abilities or totally new abilities? both?
new talents? how will the talent trees work post level 60? will there be a new set of talents, or just more talent points to distribute?
beta testing? when will beta testing start for burning crusade? can i get in? what will the beta test include exactly?
this was the information i was hoping to get today! is this something i'm going to have to wait even longer for?
I love how this is posted after the forums at the official site have been down for several hours.
reeaallly encouraging
