Sure, our species and it's utter dominance of the foodchain has hastened the extinctions of some species and areas, but that is to be expected and there's no getting around it happening because as a species we are not going to bend over backwards and harm our own civilization to save another species. And why should we?
You don't need increasingly powerful items, that's a farce created by games like EQ and WOW. A truly good game will let the players create the best items, and even then the most deciding factor should always be player skill, something games like WOW are incapable of having due to auto hits where the only thing that determines a hit or miss is a dice roll, not the attacker and the attackee controlling their characters to the best of their abilities to hit/dodge the other person.
The cesspit article calls Turbine one of their competitor's. I don't think anyone has to worry about ANYTHING from that studio. After what they did to Asheron's Call 2 and the subsequent rape of Asheron's Call, arguably one of the best MMORPG's to come out yet, they have no hope of ever redeeming themselves.
WoW style stat increases and items are utter shit, and I highly doubt the guys who made Fallout 1 & 2 would go that route. I'm hoping to see how combat works, especially PVP. Hopefully they go the route of UO and Darkfall and setup the SPECIAL system, if they even use it or a variation of it, to work like in those two games with stats.

Even their children owned firearms, my grandfather owned his own shotgun when he was 13. My friend is over there right now in the Special Forces, and he's said time and time again the major problem with operations going down is each military commander has his small sector to control, and god forbid if someone else's unit can do an operation into his territory. Read accounts from Vietnam, the same thing was happening, hell, they were WARNING the Vietnamese, just as some commanders are doing in Iraq warning Iraqi insurgents about incoming operations, when people were doing ops in their sector without letting that commander get the glory for the op.

Under the Zero Tolerance policy, if you are picked on, shoved, or in any way accosted/assaulted, and you retaliate in self defense, YOU get suspended, and a lot of the time for a much longer period of time.
I got pushed around one day by 3 kids and after a few times of pushing me back and forth to each other, when one pushed me to the next I dropped the kid I got shoved at with a punch to the throat. In ANY other setting, I'd have been found to be defending myself from a group attacking me, but because of the Zero Tolerance policies of the school, the 3 kids got 2 day suspensions and I got a 5 day out of school suspension.
Kids are being educated by the schools that it is not ok to protect yourself, that when someone hurts you in any way, shape, or form, that you are to run immediately to an authority figure and cry your heart out to them so they can take care of you. This is why things that would usually just end with a good old fashioned fist fight after or during school ends with bloodshed at the end of a barrel.
The single greatest MMORPG was Asheron's Call, close second by Ultima Online, and both to be trumped by Darkfall when it eventually, if ever, comes out. Greatest PVP there was, player skillbased for the most part (70%+, and even if another player had a drastically more powerful character than you, if you were good enough you would beat them)
I'm not seeing the problem with murderers being executed. Once you take someone's life for any means other than a true accident or self defense, you've forfeited all rights you have including the right to life as you've proven that you are utterly worthless to society and nothing more than a rabid dog that needs to be put down.
People making minimum wage/barely above minimum wage are doing jobs meant for highschoolers, the mentally disabled, and the elderly. We call them part time jobs for a reason.
