I think unleaded engines couldn't use the leaded gas, but old engines could run on unleaded.

If my motorcycle didn't have a catalytic converter on it, it could run on leaded fuel alright. Apparently the lead can mess up the cat, causing it to overheat/melt/block the flow of exhaust gases (and, presumably, melt other things).

I'm pretty sure that older cars, designed to burn "leaded fuel" would just ADD lead afterwards, if needed. I've seen 'lead additive' used quite a bit in big, old boats. Leaded gas "paved the way for the development of the high-power, high-compression internal combustion engines that were to win World War II and dominate the U.S. automotive industry until the early 1970s."link

The best thing a consumer can do is, as you said, shop around.
Understand the 'benefits' you're paying for; if your auto policy covers you for 80% of your net lost income, can you survive on that? Does your life insurance/travel/medical cover you if you've been drinking?

You should check out the Panasonic Lumix FZ-30.
I read/researched/demo'd/messed with a lot of different cameras when choosing one. I ended up with the Lumix FZ-5 because it's AF is a lot faster than it's competition (Sony H1, Canon S2IS, Kon-Min Z5).

I considered DSLR for a long time but I wanted the 'compact' size of the FZ-5, and didn't want to carry extra lenses. I've got a 5MP, fast AF, great lens (although not as nice as the glass on the FZ-20 and 30). I didn't get a few features that the Sony/Canon had - no flip lcd, no VGA video - but I did get a camera that takes better pictures. A DSLR would take much better shots in low light or at higher ISO (my FZ-5 is useless at ISO400) but DSLR didn't suit my needs.

Absolutely - if you don't have any, check with local EMS/Police services to find out what they wear. You're looking for something safe, lightweight, good ankle support, and waterproof.

Bring one of these for yourself, and recommend that each group member brings their own.
