Stephen King has recently turned 55 (along with the related troll post of course)
Then there is the taco-snotting, the stories about Anal Cox and what "Red Hat" really refers to, the incest pr0n stories, and how many ways did we find to get around the NYT registration?
Maybe you've watched too much Back to the Future? (1955 - 1985 - 2015).
Zemeckis and Gale said they chose 1955 in the first one because its the typical generation gap - a typical age at which married couples have children. They wanted to choose a time where Marty's parents would be teenagers. They were mid-40's in 1985 (47 to be exact), so 1955 was a nice round number, and would put them at 17 in the past.
Similar reason when they went to 2015 - they wanted Marty and Marty Jr to be the same age (as Michael J Fox played both of them).
Very amusing.. I especially like the fact that one of the guys was required online by his employer, while on the trip. Does this mean he can write off all the costs etc to his employer and get them to pay for it all? Nice little scam!!
... is that the memo was written by someone from H2K2, with a faked from address, sent to an already-hacked list of AT&T staff email addresses, and 1-800-822-9009 is switched through to a phone on centre stage at the conference. Why call them when you can make them call you?

Here is Tasmania, Australia, we have just had most of our urban street speed limits changed from 60km/h to 50km/h, except for a select few which remain at 60 and have been signposted as such - 50 is now the default so to speak.
In the US you could get two birds with the one stone. Change to metric and reduce your speed limit at the same time - save money by not changing the signs! Though 35km/h is damn slow..
The chase for the female bounty hunter - A.I. Most of Coruscant - The Fifth Element The colosseum fight at the end - Gladiator (of course) Obi-Wan landing at Camino - erm.. Waterworld? (ok I'm pushing it now.. but those aliens looked sorta like the A.I. ones too)
Nah, in my area its not so bad - we are part of a research project so we get a A$38.50 per month rebate. My total cost is A$50.50/month. However this is for 512/128 and a THREE GIG CAP, I can understand how the rest of the country is pissed off!!
I always think losing data is the most worrying thing, as its difficult (or sometimes impossible) to replace.
I suggest, removing the HD's and take them WITH you (along with removable media) and then insure the rest. Even if they smash the thing (or lose it) you don't need to worry about restoring backups.
A couple of years ago my house got broken into - they stole a small wallet of about 12-15 games, valued at about AU$750 I guess. They were insured, so I didnt worry much about those, but boy was I relieved when I found my MP3 CDs were in a drawer elsewhere.
Now of course I have several people with offsite backups, 2 interstate and 1 in the northern hemisphere.. cause you never know...
As far as I know Australia was potentially a big competitor in the space race before anyone got into space. But like so many Australian projects, our bone head government didn't see a future in it and pulled the plug.
Oh well.. like our first prime minister, I guess hardly anyone remembers now! (until those damn federation ads!)
"but honey, you just got a new pair last week, surely you didnt need the other 20? i threw them out for you!"
You must be single.. no female only has 20 pairs of shoes!
Just remember, at the end when they ask if there are any more questions, don't say, "Heh, yeah, heh, is this a god-damn?"

And the token CowboyNeal poll options.

Yes, this is horrible, this idea.
"Prince Rogers Nelson".
Poor Nelson...
The Young Ones
Fawlty Towers
Red Dwarf
Black Adder
Bottom
Just off the top of my head.. they're all classics.. some over 20 years old but they are still better than crap like Friends.

Perhaps he meant the DUI type.
do I wear my cell phone? do I wear my PDA?
Well, yeah, not so much PDAs but you see people with their cell phones clipped onto them all the time. Not a very good troll!

Bastards.
Yeah, just like Canada is part of the USA.

but because there's no motivation for me to do anything more than the bare minimum
"..and you know Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough to not get fired!"
Well you learn something everyday... I always knew of it as the Christmas Islands... and most of slashdot would only know it as .cx :)

Hmm time for the token Australian.
.. thats about US$1.50-$2
:P
CD-R's are about 75c-$1.00 depending on volume/supplier/etc (A$)
Petrol is around $1/L in most places. Don't know how that works out to furlongs per hogshead or whatever you use in the US
I'm not sure about stealing garbage, but stealing materials put out for recycling is.
..... isn't that the definition of recycling? :)
Hmmm
I don't know about you, but some amusing images about what happens inside government facilities are running through my head...
Oops.. I forgot to mention... prices are Aus$
Who needs to work for a big distributor? I'm on a couple of online PC hardware store mailing lists!
CPU Intel Celeron 400 MHz, 128KB cache retail box $319.00
CPU Intel Pentium II 450MHz/fan/heatsink $999.00
IDE HDD Fujitsu 3.2GB MPC3032AT, 5400RPM $250.00
They were only March 1999... but I'm sure people have them going back a lot further..
