You're not alone, at least we are two :-)

I had the same experience - Mac's are slick, better looking and all, but to me it just seems like their GUI is designed for idiots that like eyecandy. Stuff that would take me two clicks to accomplish in windows takes me four clicks to accomplish on a Mac. It just isn't as great as it is made out to be, at least not if you use it as a professional tool, and are more interested in getting things done than in awing at the amazing graphics...

    Just my opinion ;-)

I couldn't help but notice that the review was awfully positive, and that it, not even once, mentioned the Ipod which would be natural in a review of the Zune. It did, however, mention passport and the xbox - both Microsoft ventures. Thought it smelled fishy, so I did a whois search www.for2old2play.com, the site the review appeared on. And guess what: The domain is registered by Chicagobased SEO and webmarkting company Lytis.

Here is a blurb from the frontpage of their website:
"Lytis offers many different strategies to bring more traffic to your site"

Yep, and they seem to be pretty good at it too ;-)

  17. Sometimes even mr. Bush is right on A Look at Technology Legislation for 2006 · · Score: 3, Insightful

"No doubt President Bush's well meaning but misguided No Child Left Behind Act is partly to blame as well. As the son of a science teacher, I regularly hear about how government emphasis on unrealistic academic standards incapacitates effective science education. And as a victim of the public school system myself, I am painfully aware of how it impedes learning"

Although not a regular supporter of mr. Bush, I am supportive of his "no child left behind" act. If implemented correctly it raises school standards to a higher level, creating an overall more educated workforce, and thus a more educated, flexible, and innovative society in which innovation thrives, and where racial injustice, crime and other human misdeeds are at a minumum. Coming from Denmark, a country that has carried this policy for many years, I think that I am justified in saying that I know what the implications of this policy are. The current good example, of course, being Skype - Started by a Dane and a Swede. Furthermore, there is the upside of not having outrageous public discussions about whether ID should be accepted into classrooms as science, a subject Danes spend many a cold winternight joking about, and of course being scared shitless that the worlds only superpower is at an educational level where the public can be made to believe this nonsense...

  20. Re:Are critical systems on the internet? on Is the Cyberterror Threat Credible? · · Score: 1

Actually the Internet is not as redundant as a lot of people think. The reason being the term known as a cascading failure. Basically what happens if you take out a major hub of the Internet, such as for instance one of the major routers coming in to the US, is that the traffic will be redirected to other hubs, putting a severe strain on these. Eventually they will become overburdened and fail. Traffic will again be redirected to other hubs that will fail under the increasing load, and so on and so forth until a major part of the infrastructure is incapacitated. So basically all you have to do to cripple the Internet is to take out a few major hubs.

  21. missing the point on How Long to Crack an 'Encrypted' HD? · · Score: 1

It appears to me that you are missing the point of the reason for holding someone for 90 days. It is not that it necessarily takes 90 days to decrypt the information that might or might not be on a suspects harddrive, hell with one of any widely available encryption schemes it might take years, even decades. The point is that since the police does not know what incriminating evidence might be locked away in the belly of the beast they need more time to round up other suspects, check for leads, and do whatever it is that the police does when they have imperfect information on a possible crime. And when they can't extract a nicely formatted contact list they can call, and a calender they can check it takes them longer to do this. I'm not passing judgement on whether or not this is fair, just stating facts.
