    Exactly; gas tubes don't work without mercury. And they leak UV.

    LEDs are already there performance wise; cost is now the major obstacle to more widespread adoption.

    $70 for a ~60-75W incandescent equivalent is not a good deal. :)

    Yeah, it will last 10 years or better, but one good storm and they're all gone.

    Both LED and CFL lamps are much more vulnerable to power spikes; overall reliability is proportional to the quality of the power you feed them, which increases cost... Tungsten filaments are pretty robust in comparison.

    I don't think we have seen the last of the "suicides" connected to this case.

    I suspect that several "loose" ends will be cleared out; look for a press release about Darl feeling despondent... He knows who the puppetmaster is.

    The question isn't 'how big a check'; it's 'is a payoff or a contract cheaper'?

    I've never known a Mormon to suicide... I know it happens, but it's rare.

    With the known remote exploits, having the system not log certain events, like clearing the log or maybe overwriting the earlier log, would allow an election to be stolen easily.

    Of course, Obama is a lot more net-friendly...

    When I'm 80, in an Altzheimer's ward, I'll still be able to run 1sd ed games from memory...

    Then one of the the IT guys was told "have a web page up by monday." (for nothing extra.) So he hacks it out in 10 minutes with frontpage; We are talking MS types, after all.

    THAT's how it usually goes.

    Wonder who gets reamed after the slashdotting fried their server? (It's currently choking on any browser I use)

    Argon filling the enclosure would help.

    If you were using modern stuff for a time capsule, there are mobos with only ceramic caps available now.

    Caps and batteries will be bad in 50 years. Electrolytic caps lose the oxide layer in a few years.

    Inert gas with desiccant will work, Vacuum packing a hard drive is a bad idea; The heads will vacuum weld to the platters. (both are reeeeally flat...)

    I still have a PC that has a turbo button.

    And Yeah, it changes the clock from 4.77Mhz to 10MHz.

    It even has a 10MHz coprocessor, lol, with a whopping 4MB of memory.

    I have yet to see anyone do anything other than binge junk food and play Quake as a result of Weed addiction.

    No one has ever been busted for selling their Children/grandmother into prostitution for a joint...Ever!

    I do have a lot of experience with losing friends over other addictions; weed isn't even in the country, let alone close.
