Exactly; gas tubes don't work without mercury. And they leak UV.
LEDs are already there performance wise; cost is now the major obstacle to more widespread adoption.
$70 for a ~60-75W incandescent equivalent is not a good deal.:)
Yeah, it will last 10 years or better, but one good storm and they're all gone.
Both LED and CFL lamps are much more vulnerable to power spikes; overall reliability is proportional to the quality of the power you feed them, which increases cost... Tungsten filaments are pretty robust in comparison.
If it's dead, I feel someone will accidentally 'leak' it to the web. Creative types won't deal with BS like their brainchild being tossed due to "ownership".
The fact that is hasn't hit a server somewhere makes me think marketing hype...
With the known remote exploits, having the system not log certain events, like clearing the log or maybe overwriting the earlier log, would allow an election to be stolen easily.
It took two years of meetings, executive staff luncheons, and similar BS; someone got a nice raise...
Then one of the the IT guys was told "have a web page up by monday." (for nothing extra.) So he hacks it out in 10 minutes with frontpage; We are talking MS types, after all.
THAT's how it usually goes.
Wonder who gets reamed after the slashdotting fried their server? (It's currently choking on any browser I use)
We have to sneak around to get research done anymore. It's all develop, with a chorus of idiots asking us if we can use even cheaper Chinese parts...that fail almost immediately.
If you were using modern stuff for a time capsule, there are mobos with only ceramic caps available now.
Caps and batteries will be bad in 50 years. Electrolytic caps lose the oxide layer in a few years.
Inert gas with desiccant will work, Vacuum packing a hard drive is a bad idea; The heads will vacuum weld to the platters. (both are reeeeally flat...)
For another Grand, I'll make you one that goes to 12; but from there it goes to two grand per additional digit up to 20. That's a lot harder. :)
Where do you think all those guys went when the wall came down?
Here it will be blackshirts; brown is a discredited color.
History: The source book for the unimaginative.
Can we really have this conversation without invoking Godwin's Law? :)
Mars' polar ice caps have retreated significantly from the 70s.
CFCs have really caused system-wide problems... Oh, wait; that was 20 years ago.
Now it's CO2. ('')
I recommend reading "Fallen Angel" by Larry Niven. Gore is mentioned...

I made the Dirt. Think Goatse... :)
"God, if I were Scotty, I'd have fragged Kirk."
Yeah, some accidents are meant to be, lol.
30 seconds? I'll show you 30 seconds...
I don't think we have seen the last of the "suicides" connected to this case.
I suspect that several "loose" ends will be cleared out; look for a press release about Darl feeling despondent... He knows who the puppetmaster is.
The question isn't 'how big a check'; it's 'is a payoff or a contract cheaper'?
I've never known a Mormon to suicide... I know it happens, but it's rare.
Darth is pretty much taken, at least as long as Cheney is alive. :(
Mini-Darth, then.
"Just Evil enough!" :)
"(the Linux Foundation could maybe use a janitor, but...)"
There's a good reason to take a dump in the Floor!
"Darl, could you get that for me?"
Not to mention the hazing part during the interview... :)
If I posted this on GL I'd get banned; I love /.
A large pile of rocks will do the same thing, pretty much.

Same end effect, with no tech. Much cheaper, I'd bet. :)
"Dude's Dad cashed my check, Asshat, so I'm cooler than you!"
"Will this run on XP?"
rofl...

When's the next release of a major competitor?
Really.
Because all the things you like are going to be gone; some quickly, some later... But it will really suck seeing them go.
And as soon as they have absorbed whatever they want, you will be escorted out, and some pinhead will have your old job.
I'm currently wearing that t-shirt...
My memories of filling Natalie Portman's pants with hot grits, until it erupted like tubgirl. :)
Bush getting elected makes complete sense now...
With the known remote exploits, having the system not log certain events, like clearing the log or maybe overwriting the earlier log, would allow an election to be stolen easily.
Of course, Obama is a lot more net-friendly...
Maybe he stole it back. :)
Of course, it's a lot easier to play something that hasn't changed in 30 years, lol.
When I'm 80, in an Altzheimer's ward, I'll still be able to run 1sd ed games from memory...
I committed all the tables (all the original ed books)to memory long ago, all I need are players and some dice.
To :"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."
I would reply:
But it sure is satisfyingly final.

unfortunately.

...as long as they have their foremost competitor (Fermilab) making the magnets that keep "breaking".
Strange Coincidence, I'm sure.
I prefer "Rocky Horror" characters...
also:
Argon filling the enclosure would help.

I still have a PC that has a turbo button.
And Yeah, it changes the clock from 4.77Mhz to 10MHz.
It even has a 10MHz coprocessor, lol, with a whopping 4MB of memory.
N/T
I have yet to see anyone do anything other than binge junk food and play Quake as a result of Weed addiction.
No one has ever been busted for selling their Children/grandmother into prostitution for a joint...Ever!
I do have a lot of experience with losing friends over other addictions; weed isn't even in the country, let alone close.
