I have to say that alot of it has to do with hardware and the applications that get run. I run both linux and win2k3 servers and neither one of them give me a problem. I get better uptimes from my windows box but thats because of new kernal releases for Fedora Core. My linux box sees more action because we stream music off it in the office. All in all I think the best solution for businesses is a combo of both OS's to achieve the desired result. After all linux may be free and MS server is expensive as shit but it all boils down to either my time or my tech's time. Both of which are in high demand and we don't have time to fight with a pissy computer.
What i found that works really well is to lockdown the registry with group policy. Then only a domain admin can edit the registry. Sure it goes a little out of the way to get the job done but it works very nicely in my corporate enviroment.
I wont say that it helps artists but it sure doesn't hurt them. My brother is one of the original house DJs from chicago. Along with his public gigs he has released several albums under his own record label. http://www.classicmusiccompany.com/
He knows that alot of his music in the P2P networks but he also knows that he makes the majority of his money from live shows. The tour is where the money is for the artist. The record is where the money is for the record label. Its no wonder the artitsts support P2P. P2P means the artitsts music gets out and it makes for bigger draw at a live show.
Also because of the nature of the internet vonage can't connect a call to PSAP because where you activated your account and have your bills sent may not be the same place that you are at.
No to be a troll here but... I have had a gmail account almost since the begining. I check it along with my yahoo and hotmail accounts about once every 2 weeks. The ultralight interface you refer to seems cheap and substandard to me. The UI that you mention seems as tho it was designed for a 10 year old and gmail still lacks the full feature set that almost all webmail providers consider standard. Hell even Squirrellmail looks better then gmail. That being said I do like the direction that yahoo and google are headed but once they realize they are not competeing for the same user base then I think things will mellow.
Actually there was a whole batch of Ibooks that were bad. Apple knew it but there research showed that the problems didn't tend to present untill after the warrenty was over. So Apple did nothing and the handfull that burned out before hand got replaced while alot of customers got hosed..
Actually US smokers do alot more for the community then non-smokers. A good 45% of the cost of cigarettes goes to taxes in my state. Those taxes go into the general budget for the state and get used to make new roades build new schools and provide after school care for thousands of children. If we smokers topped smoking things would get really shitty really fast in country. So shut your fucking trap and let me force my extra tax dollars on you and everyone else.
What happens when you go to your bank's website and get redirected to an identical-looking website that steals your information?
This only works when searching for a page. If you Don't Know your banks web address then you deserve to get took.
I have caller ID piped in to my TV's via my directv boxes. when the phone rings I see the number. It may be my mom calling but i usally don't pick up. 9 times outta 10 the caller wants to talk to my wife and not me.
I run a a Cyrix processor in my MS Exchange 2k3 machine at home which also runs MS Server 2k3. The machine is real simple 512 megs of PC133 ram a 60 gig drive and a Cyrix 800Mhz processor and it runs like a champ...... The problem with Cyrix processors where that they overheated really quickly. They didn't disapate heat like AMD and Intel processors did. Other then that they are perfectly capable processors that came at a bargin price.
Daley will get his way. I didn't RTFA but I live on the outskirts of chicago and hear about this almost every night either on the news or reading the paper. The major factor for this wi-fi deployment is for public saftey. They want to upgrade the infastructure so that the public saftey apperatice can access information in a time sensative manner. The network will also tie into the emergency manaagement system for the city. The city has already at least 500 miles of fiber that is can use as it wants. http://www.pti.org/toforum.asp?pref=http://www.pti.org/elib/publish/article_2698.asp this is just an extention of public saftey and I for one and all for it.
What purpose does that serve TODAY!!! I highly doubt that Jesus on a cross or some terrorist in bits and pieces after a susicide attack furthers an agenda. If 1 man kills himself for the cause that he choose then horray for him. If 1 man kills 30 to 3000 for the cause that he choose then that does not further the cause. That is the point that I am trying to make. You can blow yourself up or nail yourself to a cross it still doesn't serve a purpose in the eyes of people as a whole.
What fucking drug are you smoking?? In 99% of all major religions the only expectable ways of death are natural causes or accidents. You may want to toss in giving your life to save the life of another but martyrdom doesn't serve a purpose in religion nowadays.
The windows bashing crowd has come out in force for this article.
Any OS that is left open will be exploited. My FC 3 box got r00ted within 3 days of being connected to the internet. Granted it was my mistake that allowed it to happen.
Take the article at face value and learn something from it. In next 10 years I wager that 95% of the ATMs out there will be windows based.
Bitch all you want about it but you will still be getting your money from it.
And who knows maybe the federal government will then take aim at MS and the hackers for being stupid about things.
you must be on crack.. The power of the people is in the fact that they can ask for whatever they want. It is up to the majority to say if it passes it not. As for property tax increased for schools.. I have no problems paying to educate the future leaders of this land. The main issuse stems from too much I and not enuf WE.
This elmartinos guy submitted this story so that the server would get the infamous/. effect. I believe that elmartinos is working with Mulder and Skully. The austrians are really aliens...
I want to get my connectivity from the provider with the lowest cost and best service. Right now that ISP is speakeasy. The service I want with the support that I want for a price I am willing to pay. Sure I can get service cheaper from SBC, Verizon, Comcast etc... But for me its about choice. If they offered Free WIFI in my area I more then likely would still pay for my access.
But don't take away my option to choose..
I don't like being told what to do and I bet neither do you.
Here in the chicagoland area the prices have been on a steady rise for years.. when i first got digital cable from AT&T I was paying 75 bucks amonth for there platnium package or what ever it was named. It was the top package with all the channels minus pay per view. When i left comcast I was paying about 110 a month for the same same service. With DirecTV I payed 96 for 2 years and they just upped it to 98.53 with 3 extra boxes and FREE tivo service for having there top of the line plan.
I have the same setup and I feel that it is top notch. Its really nothing fancy but it works. Never had to reboot it never had any trouble with signal quality. As for HD I can't afford an HD TV so its moot in my book.
Personally I refuse to keep paying the cable company for substandard customer service and price raises that occur yearly. I have had my DirecTV service and Tivo for 2 years and i am getting my first price increase. Which by the way is less then 2 bucks. With Comcast my price was getting raised every 9 months or so in my area.
Follow me once shame on me. Fool me twice shame on you Comcast.. Shame on you....
The thing the fails the most is hardware specifically the drives. They are using basic desktop systems maybe with a little more RAM. I read an article here on/. that covered this. It was very informative.

Actually they didn't cross the streams in Ghostbuters 2 it was in ghostbusters 1. There was also a GIANT marshmellow man. :)

did you RTFA?? Jared states very clearly. That he does not make any money off the site. In fact he states " The site has cost him money"

Yes I have.. My company has a Meridian setup with the MICA and it blows huge chunks..

Reading your post is like reading a Tom Clancy book. Long on tooth and known to most people with common sense.
