sheesh, i build loop antennas out of #12 stranded copper wire with mine that are resonant from 1.8 to 7.3 MHz, and another from 10 to 30 Mhz and talk all over the world on them,
after using loop antennas i wont use any other, clean and quiet (low noise on the Signal to Noise ratio) yet high enough gain that i can hear even S3 on the meter like it was a S20 on a dipole or inverted V.
haul in lots and lots of huge car sized boulders, i mean hundreds of thousands of them,and pile huge boulders on the well site and after a layer of boulders is on it start piling smaller rock aggregate from basketball size to baseball & golf ball size. then start pouring on concrete or cement or maybe clay & sand, eventually they will seal it off, but it wont be a small task it will take a hell of a lot of boulders & rock and cement and/or clay & sand,
because i can guarantee they will find offensive material on the internet and you can find a link from one website to another and basically "leapfrog" from one website to another where the offensive material is located, so why spend the time and money searching for it, i can tell you it is already there so do yourself a favor and pull the plug pakistan and any other muslim & islamic nation that is worried about being offended. it is out there already just a click away.
what is a good way to protect them (big desktop radio)? unplug antenna & power cord, and put in a metal box kept away from electrical outlets and any wiring?

did you hear that sample at wikipedia? what an annoying sound to be broadcasting over the air! as an avid shortwave listener am glad it is gone, i also like listening to pirate broadcasts (unlicensed radio) which broadcast with low power and are on the air for short periods of time so they are hard to catch but with a good radio & antenna and a little spare time it can be done, but shortwave listening is a love/hate relationship when it comes to trying to catch that elusive pirate broadcast, what i hate is when they do something lame like play music because DX SSB is scratchy with lighting crashes and static, tolerable for two-way communication or monologues or dialogs (voice) but terrible for music, and most of the time the same music i can find on a local FM broadcast station or your average music CD collection, i would rather hear something rare and interesting, informative & insightful.

i hear some voice communications, i can barely hear it, its down in the noise floor, but it is in there.
spring time is a bad time for HF radio, all the thunderstorms make a mess out of the airwaves, especially on the lower half of the spectrum
28 years is a long time for anything electronic, maybe the transmitter burned out.
