Every job posting I look at in the IT field usually says a 4 year degree in MIS or CS or ENG, doesn't care which. Only programing jobs usually specify, and then real world exp. plays more than a four year info regurgitation certificate does.
Sky marshal pulls a gun on me thinking I'm a terrorist just because after two hours of the little bastard behind me screaming and crying and kicking my seat, I finally get the wrong combination of facial expressions when my mp3 player battery dies...
The Vista Media Center PC wraps a liquid-cooled hard drive in sound-absorbing material to produce ambient noise of just 25 to 30 dB--quieter than a nearby human whisper--so you can hear the movie, not the machine. Couldn't you just get a SSD?
sad part is, I'm a pico guy. I shall boldy face the firing squad, or at least the IT intern wearing my name badge will... knew that guy would come in handy.
Can you imagine the legal NIGHTMARE time warner will have when all these people with open out of the box wireless start getting the bill for all thier neighbors traffic? I pay for my connection, but I've known a lot of people that just leech of someone else, and download anything and everything they can get thier hands on over the 'free' bandwidth.
As a TW customer in the TX area they are tageting, who last month downloaded around 100 gigs, i'll be right there with you. Found out AT&T will finally sell you DSL without having to have a phone line and pay all the taxes for it, so i'll drop my cable and RR.
we're proud to stand with the tens of countries and thousands of individuals who are willing to fight against such bad behavior I'm all for the fight, but when put like that, it makes it sound like we alread lost... but hey, look at that lone guy vs a tank in tiananmen.
It's not who you are voting for, but who you are voting against. For as long as I can remember voting-wise, it's always been about choosing the lesser of evils, not someone I actually expect to do a decent job.
use of the 'degraded' works aside, how do you define 'not for profit' when administrators of charity organizations drive around in cars worth more than my annual salary? You could say the pirate bay is not for profit, the money generated by adds is used to pay themselves for thier time, bandwidth, costs, etc, but so long as they don't go public, and are willing to do a little creative accounting...
empathy, it's not just for breakfast anymore. good news is that with work, you can build new walls and reinforce the emotional black hole, or if you are really lucky, can actually find a happy medium.
My grandfathers marine unit walked through the crater at Hiroshima, and almost to a man they died of lukemia, he was the last one, seem healthy as an ox, then got lukemia at 76 and passed away.
I love my Buffalo Terastaion. I got it to backup my file collection going back about 15 years that's made the trudge from system to system. I like that I don't have to worry if my motherboard dies and the raid controller changes, it doesn't care what OS I use, etc. About a year and a half ago I paid 700 for a 1tb version, they have cheaper versions, and the price has come down. If you look at tigerdirect or other sites that send me crappy magazines, you can find generic nas raid enclosures for under 400, just with no hdd's, but I like Buffalo.
I started drinking my gallon or more of water per day, lost 5 lbs in a week. Ended up getting used to it and now only drink water, nothing else, feels good aside from going to the bathroom as many times a day as my grandfather. Stopped eating junk food, went low fat, traded out carbs for protien, and of course added an exercise regiment, and I magically dropped 60 lbs. Some foods my body can process better than others, but it's common sense for the most part what is junk and what isn't. Sure you may get too many carbs or natural sugars eating healthy, but compared to fats and empty calories from junk? If common sense was that common, everyone would have it, problem is it's too easy to be lazy, and most people aren't willing to change diets to something healthy, and adapt to a lack of McDonnalds. I'm still overwieght a bit, and when I eat fast food instead of cooking (you can eat healthy and still eat fast, just have to find the right types of food, and it can be just as cheap), or skip going to the gym, I can look at my spare tire and it's no mystery. There are a million little tricks, like take the same amount of food from three healthy courses, and split it up to 6 smaller / spaced meals, and you'll loose more weight, but the end result is still to burn more than you take in, just as stated in almost every post before me.
I wanted to visit Japan, but now I think I'll pass. I realize the irony in the fact that my country does the same to others, and I've been fingerprinted for my job, the DMV, and my CHL. If this were a preventative for terrorism I could understand, but what good is having a suicide bomber's fingerprints after the fact? I don't even worry much about security these days, odds are in my lifetime my credit card numbers will be leaked or stolen, everyone has my SSN number, even my cable company, doesn't even seem like a secret any more, so what difference does fingerprinting make? Don't expect much to change, but I'll at least my my stand here, and punish Japan by denying them my money and presence, but I think they will recover.
Game developer sense of humor. One room in the game, 1 out of 100 monsters was something called 'the pink', and one out of 100 of them had a special drop... never did get that drop.
I still have it backed up from a rom reader, not even sure if i'll ever dust off my team of 99th level guys to go after the pink again, but damn that's a lot of hours invested...
A citizen who is drunk at a restaurant That same citizen could also be the one that is drunk and decides to shoot a cop, or appears drunk but is cracked out and ready for a fight. I don't approve of some of the asshole cops out there, but they all have to take steps to make it through the night. Everyone's heard stories about the cops that didn't reach for thier gun first, and didn't make it home.

It already has. It's called ERD Commander, and M$ bought the company that put it out a while back.
I can't think of a single person in hollywood today who's voice alone has his presence. Even hearing him read cop killer was something.

You forgot to mention that all /. personal will be broken into two categories... VI or Emacs...

Legal defenses being what they are, you might want to ask people to donate to the 'smuggle to a non-extradition country fund'

Sad part is I never bothered to make a user name back in the beginning, and then drifted away for several years.
I have that same casee, was a pain to carry to lan games... anyone want to bid on an almost exact replica?
