why is the person sharing the MP3 file guilty of copyright infringement.. they're simply holding an imaginary CD out of their window, they didn't ask anybody to drop by and copy it. The person downloading the file is the one guilty of infringement, making a copy of information they did not pay for.
Need some balance here. I'm sick & tired of the coverage that the overrated Star Wars franchise has been getting lately. It's like Al Gore, just give it a rest, we heard your story now move on. Same thing goes to you Lucas, you've had your five minutes of fame now ge the hell out. The original trilogy wasn't all that good and the natalie portman/jar-jar shitfest was an embarrassment to the silverscreen.
Great sci-fi, like Tron, is totally underappreciated in favor of mass-marketed starwars'ish puke.
but how about making a copycat site that supports higher resolution videos. Desktop screencasts are next to useless on youtube & google video.. the video is just too pixelated/grainy:~(
"Depending on what the treaties say, Odyssey Marine Exploration might have to turn over a chunk of the profits to England."
I didn't read the article linked to on/. but one from the toronto star,
"But under the terms of an agreement, Odyssey will have to share any finds with the British government. The company will get 80 per cent of the first $45 million and about 50 per cent of proceeds thereafter."
As soon as congress passes the magical and majestic Intellectual Property Protection Act of 2007.
1. Criminalize "attempting" to infringe copyright. 2. Create a new crime of life imprisonment for using pirated software. 3. Permit more wiretaps for piracy investigations. 4. Increase penalties for violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's anti-circumvention regulations. 5. Add penalties for "intended" copyright crimes.
and my favorite,
6. Require Homeland Security to alert the Recording Industry Association of America.
"The only thing worse than ending a series is dragging it on past its natural conclusion."
I've had that same thought when watching 24 the last two seasons. IMHO it really should have ended on day 4, Jack Bauer's silhouette fading away into the rising sun, a fugitive, a dead man... The End.
The last two seasons have been awful, this season in particular is just ridiculous:~(
it's because you haven't faced up to the reality: Wine isn't very good.
Sure you can make some programs work, sometimes. And sometimes when applications do work under Wine they act horribly, weird, strange, lots of font issues. It's not that the wine developers havent tried, it's just that emulating a Piece of Shit like Windows is nearly fucking impossible.. nobody can emulate the development hysteria that went into building windows. I don't fault the Wine devs, they tried mimic microsofts bullshit, but failed...
It's a work in progress, I know... but now Vista is out now.. and microsoft will release another POS of OS soon enough... they have no chance to keep up with the Redmond madness.
expect oil corp. ceo's to petition Cheney to shut down this research in the interest of national security. Or they may be forced to buy them outright, and shelve this new technology.
Well that's fine and dandy for Canadians and their parliamentary structured politics, but it's just a dead-end in the american "winner takes all" voting system.
...can you be arrested for 'threatening a religion' ?!
Threatening a person, yeah, but a religion? If I express a wish that Christianity or Islam die out can I be arrested? What happened to America's much touted freedom of speech?
In regards to national security, there are several plants that may fall under the purview of several federal agencies (ATF, Office of Homeland Security, etc.) This plants may include cannabis sativa/indica, poppy, castor beans. I'm not convinced the group building this database will defy their politcial masters in Washington, D.C. But maybe they will surprise me.
Is this really about recovering R&D costs? If these aids drugs are priced so high that nobody can rightfully afford; then what was lost? I'm not sure if this is analogy is acceptable but consider how many college students pirate music cds. Did the music industry really lose a sale when a CD is downloaded from gnutella? Students don't have tens of thousands of dollars to drop on music every year and wouldn't have bought that CD anways.
expect Bush to call upon his minions within the CIA to appropriate this rebel to Syria for "extraordinary rendition" (whatever the fuck that means.) Business interests trump the rule of law, in these days of post-911, you better be fucking aware of who you are dealing with. Otherwise, we'll have to go on the defensive again, and this is exactly what al-queda is anticipating. Watch your fucking back, bitch.
It doesn't say who the Sturgeon person is supposed to have murdered, or where, or when, or whether or not any of them have any relationship to the Reiser case."
True, but it does mention something about retribution for being abused during his childhood. We could make guess about who that might be... a priest from the local church? maybe an uncle(s) or cousins? etc etc
What I find intereting about his confession is this line, "He also said that Sturgeon had confessed to a potential ninth murder, but that Sturgeon wasn't sure if the victim was fully dead when he left him." Something about that just seems wrong.
With the way things are going in the u.s. and how the future of the u.s. economy depends on IP, there will probably be an extension to the life of patents in short order. Someone will introduce a bill in congress, at 4:00 AM, extending the life of patents to 55 years, no debate.. the house is adjourned.
I don't eat chocolate all that often but the last time I was in Vegas I stopped by an Ethal M chocolate shop, I think it's an american producer... bought a few boxes that seemed way overpriced but the taste was pretty damn good.
if you really in this game to win then build a couple of manufacturing plants in the u.s. to build these hd-dvd drives.. I can't imagine that this country doesn't have the ability to build cd drives efficiently.. you could win over a lot of people this way, build positive press, etc..
but some of the screenshots I've seen looking interesting.. I'm wondering though, can I go into the "2nd life" virtual world and buy some guns and proceed to shoot other players? or how about making a porn ? (use screencasting software to record the event.)
He's probably just sick of all the bullshit that is microsoft windows. Windows is such a pushy and intrusive user experience IMHO, and there's a trust factor.. Who can say with confidence that they trust microsoft's operating system? I'm not talking about the million viruses, malware and spyware packages that enhance the experience.. but what's going on in the kernel itself? It's not exactly open to curious eyes, ya? When I'm forced to use Windows it reminds me of those god damned MySpace webpages.. a pushy, obnoxious and hysterical creation.. the contents of which are usually disjointed thoughts of some teenage kid on ritalin, this is not far from what Microsoft Windows has become..
I know why people are so disappointed with Vista... there was a hope that microsoft would build something like OS/X, it would have to be a straight rip-off but something that would improve the old-beatup desktop instead of pushing the same basic bullshit as they always have. For all the billions of $$$ invested in Vista , it's a total disappointment. Maybe they should talk to Rasterman of Enlightenment, he could give them a few tips
I heard the blackberry mainframe was about to spill the beans on 9/11, thus blowing the lid off of civilization.. but it was taken down at the last minute, mysteriously.
