    And as long as the prices for the real thing stay and absurdly high levels that trend will actually spread. I can't afford the prices so I buy less expensive brands. My 8gig player was much cheaper that Apple's 4gig and the interface is fine. I'm not even confined to one vendor for application and use.

    I don't. The only music I buy online is from Wal-Mart where they sell me unlocked MP3 files and never from Sony or EMI.

    Whenever possible (and I do check), I do not buy Chinese made products. I pay more to avoid or do without.

    Not until someone actually makes it work for the mainstream. Grandma cannot go to the store and purchase her greeting card software, put in the CD and install it with one or two clicks on [OK]. Until someone makes it a whole lot closer to "plug and play" (like the windows), it isn't going to happen. It is still to complicated for the average non-programming user. Some will like it, yes. Most cannot use it. It is unfamiliar.

    I can buy a toaster or a even a TV from different companies, hook it up and turn it on without even looking at a user's manual. Linux isn't even remotely close to easy enough yet. It has to come a long, long way.

    The answer is real simple. I cannot purchase and get support for the OS on my PC. You have to buy single source hardware.

    This is what prevents linux from being and alternative to Windows. It provides no competition 99% of computer users. Thus the M$ monopoply (apple doesn't count).

    Excuse me, but, didn't M$ announce it's end of life timeline before and then moved it. The will probably move it again becuase of the dismall Vista upgrade sales and OEMs yelling at them to keep XP.

    30+" HDTV cost $800+ and doesn't have the resolution (dots per inch) that my $230 computer monitor has. I can do more that play games and watch TV with my computer (a lot more). Let's here about editing home movies on a game console. Can I organize my pictures or do my banking (with a local copy of my info) on a game console. PC gaming has a long life ahead of it and the games I play, I do not have the same experience on a game console and probably never will.

    My son has a 8000 series board (high end) running on XP64 with the settings pretty high on Crysis and I can see the leaves in the treas shaking at 40+ yards away. Oh, and the frame rates average in the low 30s. I am sorry but DX10 is a bunch of crap and running a game, any game on Vista is going to run slower than on XP...period.

    Why would anyone want to benchmark games on an crippled OS that event the manufacturer is regretting ever releasing?

    It's called a "DVD". BlueRay is for HD content (I have seen on my 42" and am not impressed). Who has a 60" HD display in their car?

    Besides, why buy an overpriced format player until there is no option? DVD looks just fine on the average TV. BlueRay is just consumerist hype to separate you from more of your money.

    Don't even go there.
    Every kernel upgrade breaks a lot of our software. We have commercial (as in lots of $$$) software that runs on Linux as well as our own and nearly everything breaks whenever we do an upgrade. Not only that but, GCC, Perl and many other things break as well. Linux upgrades are a major headache in our mostly Linux shop. My Windows XP installation has migrated through three machines and is still ticking away. Not that Windows is any better, but to say Linux as pain free on the upgrades is like saying that it is free (man hours to do upgrades and fixes are very expensive).

    I have seen little advantage to DX10. I don't care how much detail I can see past DX9. I care that the game plays well without having to pay $thousands for the equipment. I can play the latests high end games on my machine that I have about $900 into and they look and play great.

    Because public investigation affects the public (hence the name). Just as a professional driver (IE: trucks, buses) must have a state issued license to practice their craft for hire, so must a public investigator who is hired. You don't need a license for forensics but you do for investigation because you work in the public and effect the public.

    For a portable email, quick document, travel internet browser this $400 "piece of crap" is the perfect solution in a hostile environment. I won't let my 11 year old touch the Vaio with my business on it, but when traveling in the car and checking hotels, he can do this easily with this little gadget. When dropped (it is actually more durable than the Vaio) and broken, I am only out a few hundrend and am not stuck with a multi thousand dollar pile of junk. I have no problem sending this "piece of crap" with my kid to school for a project. Would you send a $3000 Vaio with your 11 year old son?

    Everex has now come out with the Cloudbook (Linux) at WalMart so, now it is being exposed to the masses. The revolution is starting!

    This news story is typical of the press. There is no information here for the reader to determine the validity of the "study". Did the "study" take into account things like: changes in population, environmental (average temperature extremes) differences, or changes in cost of energy? I cannot trust this kind of news as accurate unless they can report the whole story, not just part of it.
