I'd just like to say it seems like Democrats wish to take your sword, and Republicans wish to take your pen.

The pen is mightier than the sword, afterall. No one would sit idly by if both were taken at once.

Hmm. I don't have any arguements against Spiderman, Ryu, and Heihachi that couldn't be used against Snake but I don't think they should be in Brawl.

Others like Bonk and Pacman I just can't see being of any use (Gizmo and Bub&Bob, too).

I was gonna strike out BK and CB for being Mario clones (pretty much as far as platforming goes; buttstomp moves and etc.) but they are different enough from what I remember. I think they'd end up sharing some moves though.

What is interesting to me about this is that they do not seem to be charging significantly differently for an NES game than for an N64 game. I was originally expecting an N64 game on Virtual Console would cost several times as much as an NES game. Apparently that's not how it works.

All of which required you to WORK to "unlock" them. You had to locate the secret exits, work out the puzzles. Wah wah wah.

I'm sorry. You must have confused playing a game with work. Super Mario World is not work. If all you want to do is run on a flat surface and through the end (flag pole/high jump thingy) and get the special 50 Bonus and 3up every time, well, what the hell are you playing Super Mario World for?

It must be clarified just what people are bitching about.

No big ass guns in FPSs? Well, if you're suppose to be a secret agent or thief or just a lowly technician with no clearence to the Armories, then no, you shouldn't be running around with a Rocket Launcher in the first level (generally).

No super sports cars or god characters in RPGs? Makes a bit more sense if it's suppose to be an arcadey racer but if it's suppose to be a time sink (Gran Turismo, Phantasy Star Online) where you tweak your vehicals and amass a fleet or build up you characters' strengths while fighting in harder areas to get better weapons, then yes, you're going to have to work for it.

No level select? Well, what the fuck is the point if the levels you can't get to because the previous ones are too hard, are too hard themselves to beat?

Too much shit to unlock for multiplayer? Well, this can be true but it's still bad games vs good games depending on whether or not it's fun. Super Smash Bros Melee has 3 single player modes, 51 Challenges (that must be unlocked), and lots of characters and stages to unlock. To do so, you must beat the single player modes (one of which, BTW, is locked at the start) with every character (which means going back and beating it again with the characters you unlock). It's a bit tedious but possible and forces players to practice by dangling a stage or character in their face (kinda, you don't get hints that you missed anything if you fail so it's all about enjoying the challenge). You don't have to though since everything, IIRC, gets unlocked with enough multiplayer matches.

Now, Time Splitters 2 is a pain in the ass. You, again, have challenges but all you get is more characters (that means nothing if you play without character abilities enabled), more levels (which are shown to you but locked), and more play modes (same as levels). Where's the beef? Well, there's the tease of seeing that you're missing stuff, the general uselessness of most of the stuff (there's some 50 odd characters so that's mostly what you get for playing challenges until your controller breaks), and the length and time invested in said challenges (aside from the 15 Minute melee challenge and single player modes, SSBM matches are easily under 5 minutes counting load times).

Again, it's merely a difference between good games and bad games.

If these games you own can't be played in small doses, maybe you're getting the wrong games. If they're fun, quit complaining that you don't have the time. Play games that offer saves anywhere or use emulators and save states.

I don't find going back through the levbels to collect all the coins, or visit every corner of the map fun. I find it mind numbing and tedious.

Agreed. It's like Mario 64 vs Donkey Kong 64. Get 70 Stars out of 120 vs collecting bananas, SO MANY BANANAS, with 5 separate characters!

And then I get annoyed that there's content I paid for that I can't access, not because my skill is too low but because the devs are making me do meaningless shit to reach it. I refuse to ever buy any game which features unlockables. They're a scourge on the industry and need to be destroyed.

Unlockables set a specific goal which might require you to practice and perfect techniques. That said, it can go two ways: Ridiculously and fucking hard (F-Zero GX story mode, various cheats from GoldenEye) or immensely rewarding (Crimsonland). Scourge though? Hardly but I do wish all games have difficulty modes ranging from Complete Noob to 1337 Nerd.

Look, for the people that can afford it and want it, they will get the PS3. For parents, well, just imagine little Jimmy asking for a new video game system that costs $500 just the basic bare-bones package (no games, no extra controllers) when he already has an PS2 or Xbox. The only thing that I think would save Sony some face would be to cut the price a couple months after the launch and start taking losses to move units.
