Parent, your comments are the natural interpretation that Russia hopes for, and it was how I initially received the news as well.

However upon consideration, when a country upsets the balance of power by deploying heavier defensive systems, the appropriate response is NOT to increase offensive capability in their direction.

The appropriate response is to increase /defensive capability/ in turn.

So why have they chosen the obviously antagonistic response? It's because they have already been beefing up their offensive ability confidentially and this is just a good opportunity to come out with an excuse. I would guess that the U.S is beefing up their offensive ability as well.

This announcement is pretty much just PR and no substance.

Handgun restrictions vary heavily from state to state.

For example, here in New Jersey, it took 3 written reference letters and 6 weeks of processing for my law-abiding honors-student volunteer firefighter friend to get his gun permit.

Transporting the gun requires that the gun be unloaded with the ammo kept away from the gun. The gun must be in the trunk. The gun must be locked in a safe.

There's a great deal of restrictions out there. The problem is that it doesn't do anything to discourage those who have acquired their guns illegally, like my other friend who owns an unregistered shotgun with a shaved off serial number.

Y'know, despite all the outcry regarding privacy and being seen in windows, it hasn't been brought up so far so I figure I may as well play Captain Obvious.

I found Street View to be useful. I live in New Jersey suburbs, close enough to go to NYC on occassion, but I don't live or work there. It gets awfully confusing trying to find my way through there. Map websites helped with this. Hybrid view in Googlemaps helped more since now I can distinguish areas by large patches of color in a top-down view.

Now with Street View, I know exactly what each corner looks like so I'll be able to recognize that turn when it comes up.

This is how Street View is meant to be used, and it has succeeded in being useful to me. I'm just saying, though this lady's cat has been seen in a window, the public now has gained a useful tool in navigating the streets.

Which outweighs the other? I don't know. I understand her position. I just know that I appreciate the added utility and I would be saddened to lose it. I would love it if the van could come through my neighborhood and outlying areas as well.

Doesn't look that way to me. Nintendo underestimated demand for the console and third-party developers are getting a late-start on this console because they placed their projects on the PS3 and Xbox360, hence the relative lack of non-firstparty games for this system until next year.

Now that the Wii looks like it will have a strong portion of the market, they'll be jumping on board and I expect to see a swell of games coming up for the Wii in the future when they are completed.

The Clone Wars was a series of short episodes spotlighting events in the Clone War between the movies. Shown on the Cartoon Network. The stylized portrayal in this trailer matches the animated drawing in the Clone Wars episodes(which matches Samurai Jack, a show on the Cartoon Network).

Basically what I got from these episodes is how cool Jedi /could/ be. It's much easier to have ridiculously over-the-top action if you just have to animate it. Doing it in live-action by wire-working stunt doubles to match storyboards is not so simple. So you have General Grievous who was leaping 40ft in the air, running on walls, battling multiple Jedi simultaneously and wielding multiple sabers with his arms AND feet.

"Think of the Children" is a common sarcastic quip on Slashdot, which is a reminder of situations where people have chosen to disregard the need for proof if the issue deals with their children.

I see reasons why children encounter less nature during their developing years, but I don't dispute that since it's not suprising to me. Sounds about right. However, what I don't see is reasons why nature is inherently better. I would like to know what advantages it brings in case similar or better benefits can be achieved without having to be tied down to a specific environment. There are quite a few benefits to urban living as well, and I think most would want to take the best from both worlds.
