While they were at times a little melodramatic, the first 6 Final Fantasies really don't qualify as "Movies":) Besides, even in the later games, they seem more to me to be a godsend to neurotic compulsive people, who want to spend 200 hours getting EVERY little item, EVERY little spell, EVERY summon. To claim that there is no game...well I would assert that maybe it isn't YOUR type of game, but it is for some people, for sure. Personally I love the early final fantasies, and even the newer ones I can spend a week playing, before I have to recheck my priorities and ask myself, "Do I really need to kill this monster 1000 times or play 500 card games for this one component of this one special item which I'll probably never use because it's so unique.....I'll come back in a few months when I'm in the mood again:)"
I have to admit the name is pretty laughable now that they have a sequel to 10 "FF X-2" and are working on sequels to 7. But hey, theres a time and a place for everything:) For me, the music alone in most of the Final Fantasies made them worth picking up.
Well, you know some theories make the universe a torus or donut shape, maybe the light started 40 something light years away, went the looooong way around, and is just getting here now!
But wouldn't have have dubbed them outright "ACTIVISTS" if they had let the votes be counted, and Bush would still have won? You don't seem to be very consistant. They did good for you great. They don't agree with you, wow now they are "ACTIVIST JUDGES". Right? They did not let the votes get counted. You guys talking about "activist judges" aren't very consistant. So where in the constitution does it say that the courts have any say on who or who I do not marry.
Only if she isn't blonde and white enough skin? Isn't this a dangerous precident?
So.... How is this flamebait. The Supreme Court took the stance to elect our president, before all the votes had been counted and turned out to be in Bush's favor... They took the stance, voted along partison lines, to make sure that Bush would be our president. I said that I have the opinion that by voting along partison lines to make sure that Bush would win before the votes had been counted, that they were "activist judges". Bush later made that phrase popular, because he saw a political advantage on attacking the courts and to push admendments taking rights away from a minority of the populace, to help him gain more votes for the next election. How were the 4 of 7 Supreme Court judges who voted to not bother about the votes in Florida, but to just give their electoral votes to Bush site unseen, not "ACTIVIST JUDGES". And how was my previous message "FLAMBAIT" for pointing that out?
Hey if people want to dub their judicial brance "ACTIVIST JUDGES, shouldn't they be consistant? And no, the votes in Florida were NOT counted. The Supreme Court elected the president.
How is reiterating the facts "flamebait".

How about built in flags:
Just shelled out $20 or $30 on this damn DVD and want to listen to it in Japanese. Not the dubs and voiceovers and badly translated subtitles, in Japanese. This flag lets you listen in Japanese. If you shell out $100 more to import this and watch it in Japanese, you are obviously a pirate and you'd better have bought a damn DVD player from Japan and paid a premium on that, you stupid pirate, how dare you steal money from us!
I spent a $100 premium on shipping and on the esoteric faster over what guys in Japan would have to pay, now that I have it because I bought it..... Can I actually put it in my DVD player and push play and watch it? Yes I know I am outside of that region. I payed a premium to be able to have it in hands. Can I watch it? Or do I need to buy another DVD player just to not circumvent the laws. What the hell.
I'd mod you up if I had points. The thing is it takes time and money to translate these things. I don't know how important it is anymore, but with SNES games you only had a limited amount of room to work with, and could not fit more than one language in, especially when the languages use different alphabets. The situation may be different with games on DVD or Blu-Ray now, but voice takes up more room than text, and it still takes time and money to translate and get voice actors for all the different markets.
I am completely with you. I have been studying Japanese for the express reason to play all those games that never come out over here or are changed a lot when they do. But there is more to consider than just the stupid assed zone/copy protection crap.
I get mad a lot because my television works great. Hooked up to the satalite Dish network it works great. But put a DVD into my PS2 and it goes all weird colors and stuff, because I need to buy a new TV, because my TV isn't new enough to have copy protection stuff in it, so I must be stealing and "PIRATING" and stuff. Come on, I shell out the same cash as dickwads with newer equipment, but because they are assuming I am pirating their stuff, I get to enjoy their DVD's with fading in and out messed up colors.
I completely agree, lets get rid of the regions, and the copy protection. I pay for it, I should be able to USE it. Come on.
Q
I think you are right. I am confused however, at the "fundamentalist" viewpoint of being so adamant about strictly interpreting the entire bible (or at least whatever part of it supports your argument at the time), when as "Christians", shouldn't the "fundamental" viewpoint be the parts of the bible that either try to describe his life or are quotations of Christ? Don't get me wrong theres a lot of good advice and stuff in the bible by a multitude of writers, but a lot of the writers are obvious homophobes or have some other personality flaw or bias. Not to mention the old testament is a conflicting mass of whacko stuff, that doesn't really have much to do with the words of Christ. Not that there isn't some beautiful stuff in there.
I'll disagree with the lost productivity part. The fact is, a lot of people speed just because of an inner need for a feeling of power, or just to be a jerk. On my daily 35 mile commute, I often get tailgated for a mile or two, then quickly passed then a mile later the guy turns off. He may have saved what, 15 or 20 seconds max by being a jerk? I can't speak for all people, but it seems unlikely that this person would work well in a team environment, nor bring much extra productivity to the table....considering he was risking his life and other drivers' lives by driving like an idiot.
I will agree with you that speed limits could be more enforced, if they wanted to. However I, for one, like to think the police have more important things to do...as well as the fact that police are more likely to be breaking the law by speeding than other random citizens are. Most policemen have a conscience, and I'm sure it would bother a lot of them to ticket a lot more people for something they themselves do on a regular basis.
Not flaming the police, just saying that if there was a big crackdown, they would be affected as well. Police have lobbyists in congress and state governments, and have a lot of say in this type of thing.
Honestly, I find people who complain about April 1st fun to be much much more annoying than the fake stories. I mean, what are they supposed to do on April 1? Like there's going to be a million legit stories on April 1 that the editors are ignoring to shove these fake jokes down your throat, just to personally piss you off!
Perhaps trial in the form of the frog-people courts in Frank Herbert's "The Dosadi Experiment" and "Whipping Star". The losing lawyer always meets a cruel and disgusting death, if I remember correctly!
I'm not ready to let Michael Shiavo off the ball so quickly. I don't know if the court appearances he had across the country where he was saying how much he loved her and was willing to spend the rest of his life with her, were even part of the Florida courts rulings, or the Federal Judge's ruling who said that the appeal offered nothing new. The fact is Michael Shiavo said some things in court in California, then turned around and said the opposite in Florida.
I believe Michael Shiavo is a con man and is winning this battle to murder his wife, now that he has his pay off. The media is abetting him, which is great for him. I'm not political and this isn't a political thing, I just wonder why this woman's custody can't be turned over to people who obviously care about her, compared to the custody of her husband, who doesn't care about her. He obviously cares about his new wife and kids, and is enjoying the money he got to nominally care for her. I believe he is a con artist though:( It makes me so sick inside to know today, Tuesday, that his wife has been starving to death since Friday and he is happy since he already has all the millions he begged for to keep her alive with him for the rest of his life.
I have a extreme personal antipathy toward Bush, but I have to tip my hat at this gesture. Your brain-dead vegetable has been abused by her husband ever since he lied his way through court - "I lover her so much and I need so much money to keep her alive so we can be together for the rest of our lives."
As soon as he got the money, he went back to court - "We were watching this movie about a lady in a coma on a ventilator and she said she wouldn't ever want to live that way." His wife is not on a ventilator, she can breathe fine. He has denied her any television or radio, as well as disallowed anyone from even brushing her teeth. He is now fighting to have her starved to death.
Don't believe everything you read in the media. I hate to sound like a retarded republican, but in this case the articles in the newspapers and online are way slanted and leave out many relevant facts.
Is it right for the legislative and executive branches to intervene in the judicial branches business like this? Probably not....but her husband is a sleazebag, and is playing the courts in Florida in an extraordinary way.
I know it's not fair...but I know that if my isp is doing like what the article says, and "throttling" the bandwidth so that only "their" tagged packets are getting recognition, it's time to get a new ISP. I've had isp's that cut me offline because I was "downloading too much." Sorry guys, it's time to get a new isp. I know this isn't always practical or possible, but if your isp isn't giving you what they are nominally claiming to sell, then sock it to them.
That's how I feel when I pick up a TurboGraphix controller. Just good, fun games:)

I agree, theres been a lot of titles I was raring up to buy, then I noticed the price, did some budgeting...and decided to do the responsible thing. One of those times I picked up Katamari Damashi. Is story of how I picked up one of the best games in my collection.
Otherwise I am likely to buy used, or off ebay. Good for me, good for the guy who bought first, bad for the publisher.
Seriously, theres like 10 games I want real bad right now but can't afford. which is pretty pathetic. Been pricing Super Famicons though. Gonna start picking up my favorites, just cause to my mind it's cool.
Still none of this money is going to the publishers, and frankly they still have the rights. Someone still owns the rights to Y's book 1 and 2 and Y's book 3 on Turbo. If they put those games out right now, for PS2, not even enhanced, for 20 bucks for both, I would be able to afford one of them at least next time, on an impulse buy, and not even feel guilty about it!
