  1. toilet paper infringement on RIAA Argues That MP3s From CDs Are Unauthorized · · Score: 1

the RIAA would also somehow find that wiping one's rectal area with toilet paper would be a copyright infringement, if that process resulted in digital audio capture......

  2. direct threat to guest workers on Man Finally Makes the Weed-Removing Robot · · Score: 1

EXCELLENT COMMENTARY! I could not agree more-- the UN has been reduced to an extortion operation run by these foreign thugs, and what disturbs me is that our good old federal government keeps funding their existence here on our soil-- that whole operation needs to be sent packing out of THIS country-- but I'm reminded of an old saying: "Keep your friends close, and your enemies CLOSER"-- so perhaps it is a trade-off, in dealing with the ne'er-do-well's of the rest of the world, to "keep them close" by allowing that operation here-- and we CERTAINLY don't need to give THEM the "keys to the computer room" by turning control of the internet over to them-- hell, WE INVENTED IT (just ask Al Gore, he'll tell you it's so-- LOL) So, as long as we are STILL AROUND, it should stay with US!

  6. in a perfect world on The Problems with Broadband in America · · Score: 1

in a perfect world, broadband access is everywhere, always on-- til then, there's governments, monopolies, and telecoms which ban, kill competition, or SUE it out of existence, the latter of which seeming to be the preferred method (at least the most frequently occurring type of "anti-access" activity taking place, currently, in the USA)--

  10. the debate continues on Taiwan Irked at Google's Version of Earth · · Score: 1

I see the debate about the geopolitical status of Taiwan is alive and well-- the Taiwanese know who they are, and that's what counts-- whether someone else, be it Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, or whomever, refers to them as "subservients" to another nation (Communist China), is irrelevant-- people who live in Taiwan ARE CHINESE, and FREE-- and that CANNOT be disputed!

geez, what will these RIAA guys NOT stop at, to do their "master's bidding"? This would mean that they are threatening to literally take the child away from the parent, by attempting to have the parent legally declared "unfit"-- and have the court literally "assign" another "parent" (guardian)-- (insert artificial breathing sounds here): YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF THE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE!

  13. careful, Google on Google Goes to Washington · · Score: 1

careful, Google, whom you align with in DC, to gain "lobby support" in the Congress-- people who become elected into that body politic, who might not have before, gradually find themselves (unknowingly, perhaps) like "drunken sailors in a liquor cabinet" when it comes to governmental policies-- they are ADDICTED to money, which drives each of their special interests, which of course determines lawmaking these days (if you think they are there to act "for the common good", don't kid yourself)-- look for the politicians who are "stealth candidates" to align themselves with such huge bags of money like Google appears to be, currently-- such as Hillary's plans for 2008!

  14. next version on Exoskeletons in IEEE Spectrum · · Score: 1

as soon as someone figures out how to apply carbon nanotube technology to exoskeleton technology, for artificial muscle tissue, that will be the next leap forward in that area of science-- that would seem like a logical application of nanotubes, if they can be built like nano-sized "maglev trains", which can move back and forth, therefore allowing for controllable "shape shifting" within the structure of its intended device (artificial muscle)--

  20. well, duh on China Sets New Rules On Internet News · · Score: 1

geez, a totalitarian communist oligarchy setting "new" rules regarding the broadcast or distribution of news via the internet within its borders-- first question to this is, why is THIS "news"? Next question is: how many TONS of paper does it take now, to produce the immeasurable volume of "rules" that they have produced thus far, since 1949, when "they" took power over there? I understand the obligation of "free" press, or those in most democratic nations, to report such events, but it should be noted that "THIS IS NOTHING NEW" for them to issue such "rules"-- their paranoid, xenophobic attitude towards their own citizenry is simply made apparent, again and again, with the passage of such "rules"-- another question: What are "they" afraid of, that might be published in such news outlets over there?

  21. standing on the sun on Jobs Resists Music Industry Pressure · · Score: 1

Jobs' comment about the RIAA being greedy is a classic "firm grasp of the obvious" statements, sort of like saying "Whew, it's hot around here", while standing on the SUN-- they are the Supreme Evil in the galaxy, waving the DMCA around in U.S. courts like a Sith Red Crystal Light Saber-- Beware of the Dark Side!

  22. policy change needed on Shuttle Discovery Lands Safely · · Score: 1

there needs to be a very basic change in the policy at NASA that allows them to DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to ensure the safety of their own vehicles that carry people on board-- in 1997, they were overridden by the EPA under the Clinton Administration, that changed the way that the insulating foam was applied to the external tank, which DIRECTLY led to the loss of Columbia-- that change caused the foam to become like huge sheets of peanut brittle-- NASA needs a policy change that allows them to tell other parts of the government like the EPA to in effect "go screw themselves" when they attempt to arbitrarily change operating procedures at NASA, such as under the Clinton Administration in 1997!

  24. shuttle launch delay on NASA Ponders Postponing Launch until July · · Score: 1

it would seem we're way past just doing away with the shuttle flight programs at the moment-- so it would seem reasonable to set about fixing the icing problem-- reminds me of icing problem on jetliners' wings during winter, while stuck on the ground, because of wintry flight delays-- you engineer guys can chime in on this: surely the smart folks there at the Cape Canaveral launch sites can come up with some sort of ground-based de-icing system-- the launch towers provide all manner of ground-based support for the vehicles, it would seem perfect for adding on the necessary technology modified from existing systems already utilized at major airports?
