I love Bill and everything Microsoft but I am not sure if I will be able to use this software until it retails for at least $599. AFWIW, I think I am having Bill's child, even though I am a man, and ever since cowboys have come out of the closet I am OK telling people...
I have a real dilemma with software these days. When I purchase software, whether shareware or commerical, I am more and more getting nervous by the fact that the software may not exist in the future. I have purchased many pieces of software that are now obsolete due to companies being purchased, people no longer willing to keep up their software, or just don't work. What I find is most stable is Microsoft Office. I know I will get flamed hard for this, but I have word docs that are over 10 years old and they still work. I have files from some programs that I cant even remember what their names are anymore, it has been that long since they went obsolete. On the same token, there is some great open source freeware that has been highly developed and matured over time and it has that same stability. I just wish there was more of this. I even have hardware that is obsolete, not because it is broken, but because no one will make software or drivers for new o/s'. Very frustrating! So I dont know what is better, the big companies are guilty on many fronts, they purchase the small companies and then make the software die. The flip side, some small time developer gets a "real" job and next thing you know, it is gone as well. What to do...
Thanks Dan, can you tell me where you got the board from? I found this on MSI's web site, is it the same (RS482M4-ILD)? Here is a link:

Do you record SD TV? If so, how does it look on playback, relative to the source?
Thanks Again,
Alex
I did my best to knock over old and feable people at Costco almost an hour ago to no avail! Damnit, no 360's today there. But what I did see, in little old Medford, Oregon is a strong demand and I am sure this is the case all over the country. I hear people complaining because Microsoft built it, but what I have heard from most people that have actually played it, it is great. Even Dvorak said it was quite nice. I know I want one and will get one after the New Year. I also have to admit that if I did get one today, it would be really challenging NOT to put it on eBay, I am shameless:(
I hear a lot about HTPC and built a few systems for myself at home. In general I like both Myth and Windows and would love to make this a real DVR but I have one problem. It is not the case, the mobo, or the CPU (I love the Pentium M in my box, almost completely quiet). The BIG problem I have is with the video card/tuners that are out there. I can not seem to get a good signal out of anything that I have tried. I am not sure if it is the tuner or the output (vid card). What I really want is something with progressive scan out. I have heard of some of the new cards that say HD ready but I am not sure what that means. I also have a replayTV and it smokes anything I have built to date. The picture quality, though not as good as direct from the source, is superior to anything that I have been able to get out of my HTPC. Is there any hope for this or am I completely blind or ignorant to what is available???
This is bad, really bad for that matter. Let me explain why. I use to own some AMD stock when it was suppose to take off, it didn't, so I sold. It has since taken off!:( I also own Intel stock, it took off quite nicely and helped me make a down payment on my house 8 years back. I kept one share and have done a DRIP ever since. So it is quite clear, my lack of AMD stock and my clear conviction to Intel due to their far superior product (me owning their stock) is going to be hurt by Dell's bias against them. Man, should have held on to that AMD stock. On the upside, it looks like I will actually be able to run the new Vista server products when they come out now that I will be able to have a stable 64 bit platform. Damn those opterons!!!!
this is a sad day, what is next, a media player that can be installed on Vista, CD burning software from a third party, what is this world coming to! Actually in all fairness, this is a good thing even if I dont run firefox. It is nice to see M$ acknowlege the use of other browsers by doing something besides trying to stomp them out...
"The smaller the number, the more ink per square inch can be placed on the paper. The more ink, the more accurate and lifelike the color of the print."
This is not quite accurate, it should state that the smaller the droplet, the more accurately it can place ink per square inch, or something to this affect....

And this is exactly why it will be my next car purchase. Not to mention the fact that every ounce of oil I can avoid purchasing might just help hold off our next war. And someone might want to do an analysis on the true cost of gas/oil, that could be interesting...
I would think that Apple would be shooting themselves in the foot if this were the case (as previously stated). What seems like a more likely option would be to get your name out there as much as you can, much like if you want someone to search on the internet, you tell them to "google" it. That is what the iPod and the Apple name have come to, if you want a portable music player, get an iPod thingy. It seems to me that the more the solidify that, the better off they are and therefore I do not seem this as a purposeful move. They have had flops before, just like every company, and they recover with something better in the end. I am sure this is the same that will come out of cell phones. The advantage to cell phones, you have carriers that are willing to subsidize the cost of the machines, so I would think that this is a big driving point for Apple to help long term profits...as always, just my $0.02...
OK, I just don't get this. I thought the power (and maybe the purpose) of the wiki was to allow for a dynamic document. Once printed, you are just a bad encyclopedia. Not to say that wiki is bad, but it is not necessarily proofed in quite the same way an encylopedia would be. Plus you loose the dynamics. Look at the *cough* Commander and Chief of the US, based on his "hard work" you need to constantly update his bio, not to mention the dictionary! I understand that we are all capitalists but this just seems like a way of taking advantage of developing nations, not helping them. Get them $100 laptops from MIT and let them huddle around one to read what is happening in the world, or better yet, go to WebMD to look up what they can do for that sore on their back, and that will really help them...
I always wonder how other people in the world reacted when someone like Newton, Einstein, Da Vinci, etc, made history changing thoughts or inventions. Actually I wonder this about all great changes in history. I think I now understand it. Most people don't get it! Take for example the RIAA or the MPAA, they are so afraid of change that they are going to watch their whold infrastructure collapse. This is the exact same thing that is happening on the internet today with newsprint and eventually maybe even TV. DRM is going to drain us to a point where we completely abandon the things we use today like CD's and maybe even the current generation of MP3 players. The net is doing the same thing to newspapers and TV news. I just hope someday we get tired of the sensationalistic crap that is produced and do things that are more meaningful. All I have to say is, no shit, the world is changing and I would venture to guess that 40% is low as the kids of the 90's are starting to work their way into the employment world. We are watching history, enjoy it...
AC, sorry man, but I did not post anonymously. but besides that, why would M$ continue in a market that is constantly pirating their software. If it is a losing proposition, why bother? I am a small business owner with a family, I currently have a tough decision on weather we should pull the plug on the business (it is a side business and not my primary source of income). I have to weight all the costs and benefits and future gain posibilities to make this decision. Why should it be any different for Bill and gang! Of course they are not going to pull the plug, but at the same time they have every right to do what is best for the company, the stockholders, etc. As evil as Microsoft is seen, at least they are not Enron!!!
I don't want to get flamed too hard here, but why not? I know M$ has done some predatory things in the past, but they also do a lot of good and get constantly bashed for it. In an open market why should M$ have to sell their goods in a Country that constantly hassles them? I say let them, this will allow the open source movement to see how well they can step up to the plate as well. Just my $0.02...
I do not understand how wavelets can make a difference. As yes, I do not understand wavelets, much. But I do understand them enough to know that you are trying to take spikes out of what would normally be a smooth lineform that represents an analog signal. I still do not understand how you can make an mp3, or an image in the discussion of wavelets, better than the original. It only makes it different. It might be more appealing, but it is still different.
I liken this to me playing a musical instrument. It would sound terrible (I have no musical talent). You could then modify the sounds I created to make it sound better than what I played, but in the end, what I played is what I played. Wavelets are interesting, but I still do not understand the how it makes it better than the original...
Dont believe the hype, because that is all it is. It is quite simple, you can not make an MP3 sound better than a CD. You can make it sound different, and different to you might mean better. But if you do math, there is no way to make something sound better than the original, only different. This always frustrates me when someone wants to explain why you should buy this or that because of special features. It just cant be done! Why not just advertise it as a kick-ass sound card that will blow your mind in video cames, or maybe it has great preamps that will help the sound, but please dont advertise that it will make your mp3 sound better than the CD. FWIW, if you want the best sound, get rid of the CD, the mp3, and get yourself a good analog turntable! Sorry, just my $0.02!!!
Obvously AutoDesk is trying to increase the depth of products and position themselves better in the CG industry, which compliments 3D Studio well. But, for the AutoCAD users out there, this has no benefit. I am a Civil Engineer and have been using autocad since its early days (1987, v 1.18) and I think what they really need is some dedication to avoid bloatware! It will be interesting however to see how products like Maya affect their Civil 3D program as they are starting to push rendering much more than past versions. It will be interesting to see the road I designed push through the peaks of Lord of the Rings, besides that, no value add:(

And just to clarify, I am ok with my millimeter size penis, I just need my home computer to be in a VERY large case with lots of lights and fans.
