... the price difference was not typically more than 150% markup (without shipping) on the same product (with free shipping) as opposed to the 10% GST. You know, if the price difference were only 10-15% and shipping wasn't typically so overpriced ($15 - $20 for packages as small as RAM) even in the same city, I wouldn't mind buying in my own country.
Wouldn't now be the best time for a new console maker to enter the fray?
Sony and MS might be on aging hardware, but they are both in an established, safe position I'm sure they'd like to keep as long as possible. Nintendo has their Wii safety, so it could make sense for them to enter the market with a "core" console, while keeping the Wii around for it's present audience.
However, the ability for a completely new competitor to design a console from essentially "off-the-shelf" components that could out perform the established consoles could open up a new market for someone.

Fuck it, don't visit Australia, because it's gone to the dogs already.

If you were recording the bionic eye vision while drinking, would the recording get progressively blurred and distorted the more you drank? Even if not recording, would what you see be blurred (pixellated even) while drinking, or would you see perfectly?
Buh. After reading about terrabit cube storage in 1994 http://bit.ly/cf4ufr [new scientist], I didn't upgrade my 3.5" floppies for years... now I'm old, cynical about every article like this and my removable storage devices don't go past 32GB.

Now the real question (for us in Australia) is - if $60US is a high price point, and that's what the games are selling for. Why the hell do we pay $115 for the high price point (at least at my local chain)?
Let's do a conversion: Currently, $60US = $68AU. OK, we live far away. Right then, let's add very generous $20AU for postage. That's a total of $88AU to get a single game shipped here.
Therefore, I could order many many games, individually, from the shelf of a US retailer - sell them from my shelf, and make $27 per game.
So when we factor in bulk discounts, wholesale prices, and bulk freight, it's seeming like there's a whole lot of profit in Australian game retailers pockets. Where do I sign up?
FTFA:
"We hope we're with spintronics where Bell Labs was with semiconductor electronics in 1948," Appelbaum said. Does that mean we're about 30 years away from being able to buy something "cool" based on this?
CS is dying because it is several different disciplines wrapped up into one I think the course definitely has it's place, but it should also be complemented by courses specialising in the separate fields.
The reason I chose CS was because it did offer something from everything. I figured this course would allow me to do anything that I wanted by the end of the degree, being interested in everything to do with computing. By the end of the course, I still wanted to get into web development, 3D graphics or games programming. I ended up in web development after a few opportunities came up, have been here permanently for the last 7 years or so with no regrets.
I still feel if I wanted to, I could pursue a new career in any of the other fields due to the nature of that course.

I got GAIM.
I've had GAIM for a long time, hoping the new UI doesn't kill the nice slimlininess my old version has, one of the main reasons I got GAIM was that I could make it use very little screen real-esate.

Flight of the Conchords was based on a true story. I'm so evil, I once robbed a man so blind, that he now has no eyes.
Exactly. Farkin' dingoes, and their eating.

The current government may well be voted out this week, but the problem is, the state attorney generals decide classification guidelines http://www.ag.gov.au/www/agd/agd.nsf/Page/Classification_policy. And if only one of them has a personal vendetta http://www.news.com.au/technology/attorney-general-to-veto-r-rating-for-games/story-e6frfro0-1111115654451 against something it won't get through.
Our hopes were raised when Michale Atkison, main detractor for a new rating, "retired" http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/04/new-s-a-attorney-general-might-support-r18-might-not/ earlier this year. But all that seemed to do was delay decisions.

Seconded
So many complaints about /. articles.
So why do you people come back ... and waste time reading ... then wasting more time commenting?

There, fixed that for you.
I could, but I'm old, cynical, stuck in my ways and not upgrading my 32GB USB stick until optical holographic cube discs are available.
