I'm one of those "doofuses" who always obeys the speed limit. However, I know this is an issue that divides people - I know you're not trolling. Thanks for your opinions, they've given me something to think about. Same to everyone else who replied to my initial post, nice to see some rational debate on/. for once!
I see/hear a lot of that here in the UK. People are always complaining that the government make too much money from speeding fines and want them to cut the number of speeding cameras on the UK's roads. However, these people never seem to accept that if they just didn't break the law they'd have no fines to worry about. It's pathetic - not only do they feel no shame in breaking a law that is there for the public safety, they feel it is their unwritten right to break it and not be punished.
You never hear any of them suggesting the government do a study or a trial to see if our speed limits could safely be higher.
"According to the report, Sony has yet to officially comment on the figures released by Enterbrain, noting only that there may be a discrepancy between the number of units sold and the number of PlayStation 3 consoles that were shipped within Japan."
Yes Sony, you can't compare "sold" with "shipped" - even though that's what you do every time you try to show the DS isn't beating the PSP globally.
Well, that and the fact that I'm about to go back to university and won't have enough time to enjoy a 360 until the summer. Still, by then the number of AAA titles will be much higher, and I expected at least a model with a bigger HDD and maybe an HDMI cable as standard. Looks like my guesses were pretty much on the money (if this "leak" is true), but it didn't take much brains to guess that. With the PS3 arriving here in Europe sometime this year, MS need to reduce the number of hardware specifications they are "losing" on vs Sony's machine - if only so Joe Public doesn't look at the specs and think "hey the new PlayStation is much better than the Xbox, and no wonder since that's been in the shops for 18 months now". 120GB of storage is twice that of the premium PS3 model, and 1080p out of the box would satisfy a lot of the videophiles out there.
Fact is, the general public (and gamers who feel safe and familiar with the PlayStation brand) are under the impression that the PS3 will decimate the 360 right from Day 1, and MS need to show that their console is already running at full steam with high specs and an impressive catalogue of games.
This is all written from the perspective of a European gamer, so the battle is still to really start here.
I doubt it, for the same price anyway. A "360 + HD-DVD drive" pack-in bundle is inevitable, but I imagine it would still cost a fair bit - especially if the 360 console in the pack is a new upgraded version.
Agree wholeheartedly with your last point. It's a shame that Nintendo didn't get their online "service" working for launch, and so didn't release any online functionality to developers. Rayman: RR would be a LOT better if you could upload your stats from the Wii and try to beat the scores of other players right from your chair.
I gathered that the reason they changed the title to include "Sorcerer" instead of "Philosopher" in the USA was because a philosopher is someone who thinks. Yeah, I couldn't resist a little jab at the Americans, sorry guys!
Aside from chains that bow to empty pressure from said Daily Mail, like the Currys group deciding not to stock Canis Canem Edit, a 15 rated game. I mean, for heavens sake, there's more violence and drug use etc in your average episode of Grange Hill or Hollyoaks. Stores doing things like that just makes me sigh, they don't even look into it themselves, just decide not to do anything that might offend anyone, even mad people.
Frankly, I am offended by the high prices of their HDTV sets. Perhaps I should write to the Daily Mail.
Indeed, here in the UK the BBFC ratings system seems to work well for games (doesn't stop the tabloids claiming GTA and its ilk will warp the minds of youngsters, but parents have to buy them for their kids for that to even be a possibility). I think the problem isn't making games rating legally binding, but rather that people like Jack Thompson appear to see this as a first step to banning violent games altogether. In the UK BBFC ratings for games has worked, but in the USA there are a lot more Christian crusaders with a problem with everyday things that get into the media and fuck things up for others.
/Not trolling Christianity, just pissed off with Thompson bringing God into a topic that could be a very reasonable and mature discussion without his bible-bashing.
Oh absolutely. I have a PS2 - and my flatmate has one - and I expect it will stay at the TV for many months to come as I still play games on it, and can use it to watch DVDs in company. The Wii being a bit cheaper from not featuring DVD video playback is good for my wallet, and just means I will have to switch a few cables sometimes.
No, no Wii launch titles support online multiplayer (unless Nintendo drop an announcement in the next week). This is my theory for why Metroid Prime 3 was pushed back to next year - they might be adding online functionality.
How long have we known the Wii simply doesn't support DVD playback? There is no "add-on" anymore, there hasn't been for a while. In fact, Nintendo are bringing out a new version of the console next year in Japan that will play DVDs (either that or a software update that you'll pay for on their Wii Shop Channel, they've not been very specific yet).
Even as a PC gamer who is very used to the idea of the multiplayer component of a game being free (unless it's an MMO), I have to say that Microsoft's Xbox Live is a great service. £40 a year here in the UK and you can see the value right from day one. Sony's "free service" is touted as a rival to XBL but it looks like apart from a global buddy list they are just leaving the actual online technicalities (i.e. the important stuff) to the game developers, just like they did with the PS2's online service.
Since Nintendo have shown/revealed nothing about actual online multiplayer gaming on the Wii, we shouldn't assume it will be free yet up to the standard set by XBL. In an ideal world XBL would be free, but since no one else has made a console service than can rival it you can't blame them for wanting to charge.
I work for a games chain in the UK and at the moment the trade on a PS2 is about £45. The PS3 will cost about £425 here at launch, so people would save around 10%.
There is no European Launch Date for the PS3, only a vague launch window of March 2007. Also, if you've read the latest interview with Phil Harrison you'll know he carefully avoided answering the question of whether they'd make that date. Certainly the retailers here in the UK aren't holding their breath, they're telling customers that it might be March, maybe not.
The thing is, aside from possibly putting down a rabid animal I don't see that guns are a "tool" anymore. We don't hunt for our food anymore, most of it is raised on farms. When we turned the guns on our own kind they stopped being a tool and became a weapon.
Of course, Captain Planet taught me that. I still think guns are evil, probably because as mentioned in another post I live in a society where gun crime (and gun ownership) is extremely rare.
In your opinion. As long as we're using guns to kill or harm other humans I see them as evil, certainly in the hands of the general public. I'm very glad to live in a country with extremely strict firearms laws, in fact I don't think I know a single person who owns a gun.
This may be trolling, but your comments disgust and worry me.
Guns are evil things, and the attitude that carrying a gun makes you safer means your part of the world is in a sorry state. Keeping yourself is one thing, but there are less lethal ways to do it.
They're iconic to gamers from the early 1990's. Even if you weren't an adventure gamer you still saw them all over when the game was released. And they've stuck around in the gaming conciousness pretty well, though not as you say as well as the Mario brothers and say, Lara or Master Chief.
Happily, you're wrong. It was confirmed months ago by Nintendo that one of the main differences between the Cube and Wii versions of Twilight Princess was that the Wii version would have native widescreen support. I don't have a source but it's all over the 'net (yes I realise that's a cop-out, but it's been a long day).

Good sarcasm is a little easier to spot than that :P

+3 KazzPoints for making me chuckle before going to class. A terrible joke, but a joke nonetheless.

Even the FMV where you meet her (during the main journey) and she takes off her Al Bhed suit? Suit yourself ;-)

Hopefully Minerva Episode 3 before HL2 Episode 2? ;)
