They can already bother your friends, most user profiles have that info publicly accessible. This is about Facebook getting access to the banks, not the other way around.
Some if it gets dumped, but some of it does get picked through by pauper children as well. India has a formal caste set up for these jobs, people are born into them. I don't have the figures, but it's got to be a higher percentage than in America.
Step 1 may be the hardest here, especially if you add the qualifier that it needs to be affordable.
Something tells me I won't find anything that isn't either 10 to 15 times more expensive than my current phone, or significantly less durable... probably both at the same time, really.
Doing without them is exactly the plan. My headphones ain't broke, why fix them? I know Apple needs to reach the next -illion on their scorecard, but I am a businessman too. Following that, when I make a purchase, my concerns are more along the lines of utility, reliability, cost-effectiveness...
It's great that money is being put aside, but the real question is, would it be used effectively? We could, for example, require some baseline measures of security for the states to get the money. But the summary and none of the comments so far talk about that. This is where Slashdot used to shine, I remember ca. 2003 or 4 , when electronic election integrity first became a big issue, there were lots of discussions on how technically feasible it would be, what steps would be implemented... Now, all the substance is gone. Replaced by bots, paid trolls, and those who are so vapid that you can't discern between the three.
Oh, and our elections systems are still just as insecure as in 2003. I wonder where to get real discussion today... Facebook?
There might be a few corner cases of users who would like a YouTube alternative, but what really matters are the advertisers. And good luck getting the record industry to let a new startup site host the vast amount of copyright content that makes up a huge chunk of YouTube's traffic...
How many times? As many times as it happens. News isn't supposed to be entertaining. Here's an exercise for you. Rank CSPAN, Fox News, and World Weekly News in entertainment value. Now, rank them in how consequential the stories they cover are. You will see there is an inverse relationship.
when in your life has the best answer to a complex problem been to ignore it and hope it all works out for the best?
There's a whole lot of sheltered people out there who deploy this strategy continually, and things are great for them. Not because it's a good strategy, but because there hasn't been the need in their world for strategy. I give it about 20, 30 years.
They've made me unable to access HTTP sites because they have blackmailed them all into switching to HTTPS. Last time I needed HTTP was just a couple days ago, so that my browser would redirect me to the login page for a public WiFi network. I guess now Kroger and the NSA know I checked the weather forecast while in line with my groceries... Never mind the fact that I'd been directly observed by a network of AI-assisted cameras, license plate and RFID scanners for my entire trip... The REAL privacy violation is when my weather reports and cat videos come unencrypted.
Apple customers voluntarily subject themselves to gouging as soon as they make the first payment. I saw an article in the shitty tech-gossip press recently about "Top 5 Reasons Not to Ditch your iPhone"... I thought "you're already locked in" would be the main point they hammer on, since the article was specifically to stem the tide of people abandoning the iPhone. But they also did mention... Build quality.
Not entirely sure what the reference is but I'm looking more towards the heads of state, and others in positions of power who justify their laws and policies with, for example, direct quotes from the ancient Christian holy texts... And often nothing else. Recognize that reference?
Sure it pollutes the name of Bayer. Which is still less polluted than Monsanto. 50 years from now, who can say - but by then they will have a new brand with a fresh reservoir of good will to burn.
What, you expected something reasonable? From marketing?
Hitler was a lot more effective at governing, and much more concerned and involved in the task than Trump is. There are some shallow ideological similarities in the way of ethnic purity, but the more relevant similarity is the purging of dissidents and the consolidation of power. If you're unaware of the steps being taken in that regard, you have some serious filter bubble problems to work out.
But, my analysis is that it's more likely you are aware, which makes it all the more rich that you mention "cognitive dissonance" in the same post.
And he argued that Facebook promoted competition by making it easier for small businesses to reach larger audiences -- which is basically unrelated to the question of whether Facebook itself is a monopoly.
And it's also totally false... the internet is what lets small businesses reach a larger audience. As much as Facebook would like to make The Internet a wholly owned subsidiary, that's still not the case in... most places, I think some African or Asian villages might only have Facebook Essentials....

Let's hope for a shitshow in Venezuela, that way we can win internet arguments with the liberals. Better to focus there than on our problems.

It becomes so blasé that people start forgetting how prevalent and big these things ate.

Also. The developed world had reached Peak Facebook, this is a way they can directly expand their influence into new territories.

I doubt anyone has signed up for TiVo in well over a decade... If they let people cancel easily, they'd be liquidating already!

It's not people with *different* political views, it's people with *specific* political views and tactics.
Or just skip the last step, since you have already got to adequate performance, and want to keep the architecture secure.

You're idiot-signaling pretty heavily right now.
Oh no, watch out for the NigHas
But school is an indoctrination camp for liberalism. I've got some YouTube channels that will blow your mind. Click the Subscribe button...

They want to solidify this perception by removing as much Vevo branding as possible.
