So, when I'm driving my friends car or riding someone else's motorbike *which I am legally insured with" but the owner has no insurance, I can't get petrol???
The DVLA's huge *and incorrect* database?
Is there actually someone *so F0cking stupid* as to believe our insurance premiums will reduce? Really?!?!
I don't like any of the ways this can happen. It's MY computer, I built it and sometimes I like to install Windows. Sometimes I like to play with Linux. Sometimes I like to play with overclocking and keep rebooting until it actually stays usable for more than 5 minutes.
The fact that there is an exploit is good. The fact that M$ is actually trying to screw us is bad, they will try harder every year.
I have never actually had a computer virus.
I have 3 cars, built between 1968 and 1977. They fit 4 normal size humans, do over 75mph and weigh less than 550Kg. Compared to a Smart car that weighs 750Kg and only holds 2 people?? That's progress!!
These cars are great fun, easy to work on and still usable.
For the same cost they could have filled a warehouse with medical records and hired a bunch of dropouts to ride around on Segways pulling files and using a high-tech fax machine to deliver medical records on demand to doctors the world over for the next hundred years until a system of electronic medical records that isn't fraught with problems was invented.
But if you paid someone to mow your lawn and they goofed for an hour wouldn't you be upset?
Not if the lawn got done. There is a definite task to complete, I don't care if it takes them all day and, to be honest, I wouldn't be sitting there timing them. The quicker they do the lawn, the quicker they can go and earn more money doing someone else's lawn - more fool them if they goof off.
I, however, work hard so that the company earns more money - not me. So I don't give a shit.
Terrorists in Northern Ireland never needed the internet. Freedom fighters/terrorists/rioters? They need the idea, not the medium.
The idea has been brewing in the UK for years and has started to bubble over. About time too. We have been CCTV'd to oblivion (without accomplishing anything) and the Govt has wasted billions on ID cards, NHS computer systems, cancelled defence contracts etc and for what?
A perceived threat? I lived in Northern Ireland and it was better than what is going on in England now. The 'threat' is bull$hit.
Pictures of naked people aren't porn. Pictures of naked children are not porn. Porn is sexual. Nudity isn't. Just because 'someone' thinks it's porn does not make it so.
I used to run 30 sites years ago and suggested the.kid TLD. At the time, disney had managed to make www.disney.kid active and I thought 'Good on them'. IRL we try to keep children away from the negative elements of society by herding them in to schools, playgroups etc - why not do the same with the internet? I'll tell you why, the pay-per-click promoters freaked out! Without innocent netters randomly clicking banners, their revenues would drop:( Arguing about the.kid TLD would attract pedo's is nonsense. This TLD could be monitored by all the TotC crowd to their hearts' content, websites could be heavily fined and/or shut down and parents could more easily lock down their child's browsing.
First off, yay to the/b/tards - I had been watching this a few days before it started and am proud of them.
Second, this is from a long time ago and a view I whole-heartedly agree with.

The definition of obscenity, according to the Supreme Court and known informally as the Miller test, is:
* must appeal to the prurient interest of the average person
* must describe sexual conduct in a way that is "patently offensive" to community standards, and
* when taken as a whole, it "must lack serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value"
Certain people (including parents and schoolteachers) have complained to us and stated that rotten.com should not be "allowed" on the net, since children can view images on our site.
One US schoolteacher wrote us a very angry email that complained some of her students had bookmarked images on this site, that our site shouldn't be on the net, and other claptrap.
This is our respone. The net is not a babysitter! Children should not be roaming the Internet unsupervised any more than they should be roaming the streets of New York City unsupervised.
We cannot dumb the Internet down to the level of playground. Rotten dot com serves as a beacon to demonstrate that censorship of the Internet is impractical, unethical, and wrong. To censor this site, it is necessary to censor medical texts, history texts, evidence rooms, courtrooms, art museums, libraries and other sources of information vital to functioning of free society.
Nearly all of the images we have online are not even prurient, and would thus not fall under any definition of obscenity. Any images which we have of a sexual nature are in a context which render them far from obscene, in any United States jurisdiction. Some of the images may be offensive, but that has never been a crime. Life is sometimes offensive. You have to expect that.
The images we find most obscene are those from book burnings.
Please remember that no child has access to the Internet without the active consent of an adult. And absolutely no child should be left on the Internet alone. Supervision of children remains the responsibility of parents and teachers, as it always has and always will.

I have a set of 4 spotlights in my kitchen which I have 1 "40 LED" spot, 1 "Halogen" spot and 2 "Energy saving" spots.
The Halogens last 2 months, the LEDs last 4 months and the Energy savers haven't been replaced in over a year.
Halogens are much cheaper and brighter than LED and Energy savers.
LEDs are expensive and need additional lighting for colour balance.
Energy savers take 5 minutes to achieve full brightness. For this reason, I have the mixture in my kitchen.
Halogen £0.79
Energy Saver £1.99
LED £4.99
I wont buy any more LED until the price is under £1.50
I wont travel to the US specifically due to their 'border' control. I'm ex-forces and still get treated as a suspected terrorist, even though I spent 5 years trying to defend my country AGAINST terrorists.
I have put down my SE P910i and bought the HTC Magic.
No animated gifs
No flash
Very few movie codecs
Stupid proprietary connector
Woeful camera
Abysmal battery life
No bluetooth file receive
I hope the new Xperia X3 is more P910 lke and less G2.
After owning a SE P800 & P900, I'm stuck with my SE P910.
I want a phone/PDA that doesn't run ugly WinMo, does allow multiple SMS and MMS, no keyboard, allows spreadsheet/word processer editing and doesn't look like a lump of ugly plastic.
I've tried the Blackberry Storm (locked to Vodafone with horrible, intrusive branding), the iPhone (no MMS or multiple SMS send), the Samsung Omnia (WinMo sucked).
I'm curious to see how good the G2 is but initial reports are brilliant.
The Freerunner looks plain awful and has issues with stability.
Where is the modern P910?
Fear-mongering is bigger business than war-mongering these days.
any attack from such a flight will always be coming from outside the borders rather than from within the U.S.
Well, fuck, you've forgotten recent history real damn quick.
When the Brits start turning against the Yanks you know America is in trouble long term.
Lots of us already have. I've turned down two contracts there and none of my colleagues consider having a holiday there.
I bloody hope this is an April 1st post! I already hate the US Govt - this is taking the piss.

I've chosen Brazil...
Except the oil companies are making a fortune out of 'Global Warming' by increasing their prices and governments are making more from 'Green Taxes'?

Political dissidents are child molesters now? Dick head.

Needs modding up!!!
The only way this concept works is if the rendering farm is running in a closet somewhere in your house.
With liquid cooling, you could pipe it to the central heating system.

I'm the same. When I start a new project (for me) then I can sit for up to 16 hours working. At work? I can only muster 2-3 hour bursts.

I have a 3G dongle with 15GB data for £15 a month and 2GB of data on my phone for £15 a month. Why would I need a cabled internet???
