  1. Re:scratching head on MS Upgrades To Be Smaller And More Frequent · · Score: 1

Yes, samething, but Microsoft is going to make it a big deal this time so they can pretend they are keeping up with Apple's updates on the MAC OS. I'm sure Microsoft's updates won't be called "service packs", but we all know that's what they'll be.

A famous rapper named 50 Cent has a click/gang/group called G-unit. They often say "G-G-G-G-G-G-UNIT" in their songs so people can recognize who they are. Saying "J-J-J-J-J-J-UNIT" is just a play off of this.

Good to see that more companies are trying to keep their software free, but perhaps the Slashdot crowd could offer advice on a better business model than spam and merchandising?

How about we keep the base model of the program free, but allow customized versions for companies or individuals who want things specific to what they are doing?

  4. Big Deal! on TiVo OS Update Adds Content Protection · · Score: 1

I agree with the fact that it will get hacked around, but I disagree with this being a "no biggie" for two reasons:
1)It's a pain to have to get/create a hack for this.
2)This shows the beginning (or maybe the further progression) of how restrictive things are and are going to be in our future.

This is only complaint I have so far about my Nano... The back of mine has a ton of fingerprints all over it. They should have used a different metal or put the same white color on the back as they have on the front, because the front doesn't have any fingerprints that I can see.

I'm very happy with my purchase. I've used and have had other MP3 players, and can honestly say the click-wheel alone is worth the extra pocket change.

I think it should be okay for businesses to call if they have a pre-existing business relationship. A big power of our (American) Do-Not-Call list is the ability to say to these pre-existing relationships, "Thank you, but I do not need any further business from you so please take me off your list and do not call again." Hopefully the Canadian one will work the same way.

I like hearing about Firefox exploits this way rather than having it mess up my computer by learning about these exploits the hard way.

I've had problems with another browser (guess) in the past where I found out about an exploit the hard way and then found out that the exploit had been a known problem for a very long time. At least we know that the people behind Firefox will have a fix probably within the next few days, but no longer than a couple weeks.

We take that for granted right now since most of us stay inside all day working, but to never be able to run around freely outside is terrible. Plus you'd have to stare at a red surface all day, everyday... No oceans, no greenery, just red rocks. Yuck!

I'm sure they will be looking at this technology, and maybe even come up with their own before it's all rebuilt. I see this being like rebuilding the World Trade Center buildings - where we will have many ways to fix the levee system or create a entirely new system.

  16. Stretching the topic... on Realism vs. Style: the Zelda Debate · · Score: 5, Insightful

I'm not sure how many others are with me on this, but I am getting tired of realistic games in general.

It's cool to have physics that work like real life but then again, that's not why I play games! I play them so I can see things that can't be done in real life. Remember in Virtua Cop when you shot someone they flipped around like the bullet was 20 times powerful than it should be? That was cool! I loved it when RUSH came out because it let cars drive with semi-realistic physics but they could fly off cliffs and float in the air unrealisticly - but it was awesome and fun! I want the physics to be a little warped. I want characters to be huge compared to normal humans. I want them to be able to do things not possible in real life... I want to see things I've seen in a few games to be extended upon - such as jumping off walls, or small explosions that make characters bounce really far into the distance... I don't know! Just something new and crazy that isn't supposed to happen in our laws of physics!
