onehub lets you brand your own version of dropbox, stores it on aws, and lets you create your own local version. it's pretty great for companies that want dropbox but want control.

honestly, i'd hope that apple would just tell them that they'd happily pull all universal content from the itms and call off their conversations until they took that idea off of the table.

then we'd lose the ability to purchase songs from such talents as ludacris, ciara, lloyd banks, the killers, dmx, elton john, and dashboard confessional. oh no. it's not like we can't get that stuff legally through other channels.

    WeeklyRadioAddress.com

if you look at that, you'll see that they've ripped the entire whitehouse.gov interface, and built thier content inside of it. yes, you'd have to have no sense of humor to realize that the prez wouldn't actively talk about being touched inappropriately by the holy spirit, or tell the victims of katrina to go into the military (would he?), but i can see where they'd be a bit upset.

the main onion page, though, is a no-brainer.

i wonder if the press confused the two?

  12. no more quark at school on Quark CEO Abruptly Resigns · · Score: 1

i'm an adjunct at a large state college, and our art department dropped quark two years ago. there's a bunch of folks graduating that have never seen quark, or, if they have, only in comparison to indesign (ie, 'yeah i can do that in freehand, it's just like how i do it in illustrator').

i really think that when the future production artists rebel against quark, quark's future is gone. sure, they'll work in some shops that'll require it, but they'll push back and demand xml and png compatibility, which quark can't touch.

i'm wondering if the simple fact that more copies of halo2 wound up in the ebs of the world than, say, gta means that there will be more sales.

a friend of mine is a store manager at a place like that. when i asked him about the gta release, he just shrugged his shoulders... he didn't get enough copies. the hype was the same, but he sold out in a day. halo2? he had over 200 copies waiting in a box. for a store that's probably only about 400 sq feet, that's a bunch of copies, eh?

  19. pay for time rather than per play? on State of the U.S. Arcade Industry 2004 · · Score: 1

as an adult, i'm pretty happy that places like dave & busters and the sort are out there. you pay 20 bucks to get in, get a card, and can play as many games as many times as you'd like for, say, 2 hours. it's a great way to learn how some of the newer games work (like that ferarri sim that came out a few years back). everyone in this thread is complaining about ddr and the fireman sims, but places like this let you get over the initial hump of learning the skills necessary to enjoy the game.

for you old throwback folks, check out mr.driller (1 or 2) for some old school fun. it's a great, addictive game that you'll get in about 10 seconds, but will take you hours to get good at - just like donkey kong, puckman, et al.

if you're into it, check out dm's new cd/lp with jemini. underground hiphop has a new hero from across the pond.

you know, that's probably one of the best dorky games ideas yet. i know when my wife was introduced to bejewled, i couldn't pry her away from it for quite some time.... that and mahjong.

game developers should really think about this at some point. she really likes games that scale up the difficulty slowly, reward often, and don't require reflexes (ie, the turns aren't timed). if they could rewrap a war game like axis and allies into something that wasn't a quest for world domination, she'd be all over it.

to be honest, though, i'm more surprised that we've got people still working on games like this. i mean, you get 1000 people on the same server, and all you can do is make a chat engine and make people kill bugs for 5 hours until they level up? what a waste of time.

that said, has anyone here noticed guild wars yet? now /that's/ going to be a good online fantasy game. 1/2 counter strike and 1/2 diablo == fun!
