I actually just picked up a new machine that came with "Vista Home Premium" installed. The machine only came with a gig of ram. I logged into Vista just to see what it was like and found that I wasn't noticing any problems during the half hour or so I was playing around with it (with Aero enabled). I know that 2g of ram is touted on the internet as being the minimum that's needed to run Vista nicely but I am wondering if that's actually true. I wasn't pushing the machine at all but then again, most people don't push their machines either.

Ultimately it's a moot point since I am buying more ram for it and have already gone to Fedora 7 for that machine. I just think it's interesting the hyperbole that gets thrown around. I certainly didn't notice Windows "barely working".

Wow - look at that elitism on display! Madden is consistently a best seller, topping year end sales charts. Because of this fact, your statement that "most gamers" consider sports games to be a lesser genre is obviously incorrect. A large percentage of gamers (enough to move significant units) seem to enjoy sports games. What is missing from your life that you need to look down on people who enjoy a different kind of game than you?

I have never enjoyed any of the Final Fantasy games. It's not a different situation; it's still about a company's decision to make a choice that limits what a consumer has access to based on a financial decision.

Could Nintendo release Super Paper Mario on the 360? Yes. It would cost some money to do the port. Nintendo doesn't want this expense.

Could Universal release their movies on Blu-Ray? Yes. It would cost some money to license Blu-Ray. Universal doesn't want this expense.

A company has the right to do business as they see fit within the limits of the law. A customer does not have the right to whatever movie they want in whatever format they want, as the poster I was responding to was suggesting.

If so - yeah, it would be nice if I could play Super Paper Mario on my Xbox 360 but I don't think forcing Nintendo to release it there is very free-market. If a movie studio doesn't want to release their films in a particular format, so be it. The issue is not that a studio has to release in all formats, the issue is whether studios were strong-armed into choosing to release in a particular format.

Based on the general state of the industry, I'd also say that the growth is much more healthy than what went on in the 90s when speculators drove the market to huge heights (but then abandoned it shortly thereafter). The ratings are supposed to be a guide for parents; not a dictum of how I should raise my children. If I decide that they are allowed to play Manhunt 2, then that's that. Furthermore, the AO rating isn't just preventing this game from getting into the hands of children - most stores aren't going to carry an AO game. This prevents it from getting into my hands.
