They also block distribution, World War 2 Online is only available in a boxed product, for which the sole thing you get out of it is a piece of paper with a cd key on it, you then chuck the cd and manual it comes with because you have to download the game from the devloper because the game has changed so much from the version in the box.

Since you have to download the whole thing anyways why not sell the cd keys online? Simple, because the publisher locked Playnet into a contract forbidding them from doing so. Which is incredibly annoying waiting for your local store to get not one but two copies available when it was selling out all the time.

In this case and I'm sure there are many others the publisher is very much like a large record label but did even less, there was no money up front to cover costs, all they did was actually publish the game which was unneeded because the devloper had to republish it themselves anyways.

Actually I wish they would move OpenSSH out of the base install too, because the way it is right now is annoying to upgrade, oh not too hard if you know what you're doing.

That is one of the main reasons why it's moved out of the base install, try upgrading telnet in Windows to a third party's, your usual end result is that you will have two telnet servers on your machine, not running both but two copies of it sitting around.

Wouldn't the obvious choice be sh scripting, since it is available everywhere, and it's not like it's hard to get Perl into FreeBSD, either select a package that requires Perl when you install your system, or select Perl itself, it's on the install CD.

It's just that if you do a minimal install, it's not there, which if you're talking 100 megs and Perl is another 12 is a good amount you might not want.

And also for those of us who don't want Perl on our systems there's no extra work of removing it, adding stuff onto a minimal base is much easier than having 400 megs of junk on my system which i then have to remove.
