    AOL. Good thing I can block all the Flash ads. I tried without an ad blocker and could tell by the fan turning into a jet turbine on take-off that there is a Flash ad on the web page...

    imeem does not work for me. When I hit play, firefox shows that it tries to connect to the surfing history tracking slimey bastards doubleclick for a minute and that's it. I can't go further than the spinner.

    Oh, maybe you have to install the plugin first, although it is not needed for the download itself.

    When I open a page with the video, I see a still image of the video and in its center big play and download buttons. Both are just plain HTML link elements (only after pressing play the still image is replaced by the player object).

    Actually, they also take on the middle segment for some time now. My former company had ca. 400 employees and they started using some SAP modules.

    So why don't you note these instructions down? If he speaks too fast, ask him to slow down, as you are writing it down so you don't miss a step. He will understand and appreciate it. It is your responsibility to get it right. If you can't remember everything and don't take notes, you rightfully get negative feedback about it. He is your boss, it is his choice of communication medium, you have to deal with it in the best way you can.

    As for the students: They don't need the ethernet adapter, wireless is omnipresent on campus (or you get a cheap WLAN router for your dorm room). And what would you need the optical drive for? (you can use someone else's drive for installation if you need to and there is certainly no need to carry one around day to day)

    So: no weight malus.

    Microsoft dropped support for PPC Macs. I see this as a good hint on what commitment to expect from them regarding future platform independence and support.

    That does not make any sense, even from the psychological POV.

    Nowadays, there ane two kinds of Russian businessmen: those with ties to Putin, and those that are out of business. Basically, they're back to the state running the economy.

    Is there a single American business guy who is fundementally against George W. Bush and successful? If you take a look at the election yesterday, it is enough to voice support for any opposition candidate to get out of business (and into prison). You seriously don't claim this to be the case in the west, do you?

    If undoability is the thing that makes this work: it is not part of the patent. The patent only covers the general "direct buy" idea everybody is/was aware of.

    And an old idea it is. People used to walk into shops is their towns. They greeted the owner (they knew eachother). They said "John, order me the thingy and deliver it to my home, please", said goodbye and left.

    And this is supposed to be patentable now just because it runs on computers connected through a network?

    The funny thing about Ford vs. Toyota is that as Toyota as a japanese company already provides its workers much of what unions care about. Job security, long time relationship perspective and care for the employee instead of workers vs. management for example.

    Say you have images on your website that show people drinking alcohol. Now some organisation from a foreign jurisdiction asks you to filter access to these images for visitors from said region. Would you do it? Is it a reasonable request to follow? Setting things up and keeping the system current does not come for free. And there is the question if you should do it at all.

    The logic of the MS argument escapes me completely. When I define on MY page the font in the stylesheet as Arial or whatever, Vista users will see the text as Arial. So WTF are they talking about?
