That looks like a great webapp. I'm starting to think that it's impossible to have an original idea these days. The worst was when I came up with the fax-through-email idea about a year too late.
The banks yes, but also everyone that uses the same currency as him. Taking that much money out of circulation should help increase the value of the bills in your wallet right now.
Bingo! I had a friend once who saw the movie Dead Presidents and he could not understand that printing money and giving it away would be a bad thing. On a side note, I was shocked recently when I found out that the US government or Alan Greenspan or whatever does this very thing.
Before anyone says that this guy is greedy and should give the money to charity, I'd like to point out that there's little chance that he will come back to life unthawed, and if he doesn't spend the money it makes us all just a tiny bit richer.
It's really amazing what doctors can do these days, and your son is very lucky to have such a qualified doctor. I can't even imagine the medical innovations that will occur in the next fifty years, and we'll all probably live much longer (and better) because of this.
This will never take off. Expensive wine is no different than expensive diamonds. People buy them because they are expensive. We've created diamonds in labs that "don't have enough impurities", according to the jewelry industry (and people seem so agree for some reason). This wine wont "have enough impurities" either.
what an offtopic clusterfuck

end of story.
Animats needs to STFU
I love how you were modded 0 offtopic. There's no "end of story" when it comes to discussion sites like slashdot. What is an animat?
Do you want to know another thing that I think is wrong with the patent system? You do? Great. I think patents are too expensive for the average individual and too cheap for the average corporation. Too bad I don't have any suggestion to make the patent system better.
I know the original question is about non-website uses, but my idea could be intranet based also. I had the idea for a collaborative writing sytem at wiction.org but things came up and I never finished the site. I still think it is a good idea though.
I'm only recommending Thinkgeek's drive enclosure because you said cost is not an option. Where can I get thinkgeek like stuff in Canada without mad shipping costs? Anyone?
Well I think it's obvious what the people want, and that's less strict copyright laws. I'm pretty sure democracy is not about who has the richest lobbyists, so the RIAA can kiss my ass.
It's this creative diversity that makes the games industry so popular, and without sustained funding from new software sales, this could be at risk.
Here is how we will see the proliferation of "activation servers" and the like systems where purchasing a "used" copy of a game simply buys you a coaster. Copyrighted materials (in the US at least, and from the article the EC) are covered under the doctrine of first sale: once a work in "fixed form" is sold, that fixed form is transferable to anyone else by any method desired. The used book, CD and game industries survive only because of this doctrine.
Activation servers add an additional wrinkle to the mix: you can still legally sell the bits, but the activation code isn't going to work when you take it home. When you complain to the company, they will (correctly) tell you that the code has already been used. Thus, the idea of used games will be a thing of the past. Of course, so will be the idea of tossing an old CD into your machine and expecting it to do anything but say "activation server could not be reached".
All this will be couched in terms of "the benefit of the consumer" while in reality kicking them in the teeth.
That's where we consumers come along. We don't buy the software that requires activation. That's it.
I guess that's the problem with Capitalism isn't it? The almighty dollar is more important than ethics when you are a publicly traded company. Of course, the alternatives are worse.
I do think that Microsoft's monopoly was a good thing for a while though. Before Win95, developers had too many platforms to support. Thank Jebus for Linux though, now all that's needed is some better standards between the distros.
I think this is great news. It may just force some developers to work more on gameplay, and less on cutscenes. I do appreciate the awesome soundtracks of the Tony Hawk, Madden, and Gotham Racing series but I'm sure compression take care of most filesize problems.

He got me an interesting link to an interesting story. I don't see YOU posting any interesting stories.
No kidding. What's wrong with making money anyways? Just because I'm broke as shit doesn't mean I should complain about others.

Just thoroughly wipe down your dog|cat|kid with bleach when they come inside after playing in the backyard.
Seriously, if you or your boyfriend are "playin in the backyard", you might just want to wipe yourself down with bleach too.
I should have went to a US college. I probably could have graduated there.

Okay, now try it with respectable news sources. Newsmax? Come on! And the "but, but, but Clinton..." is getting old. Who the fuck cares about Clinton?
That's a great website. Even better than plastic.com

Of course they really mean about 6000 years ago.
Ugh, because it's cell phone. Maybe you want to check out the NGage?
Didn't I just say that?
