FYI: you cant get Koolaid in Australia anyway and the only close subsitute is called Cordial...its basicly thick flavored surup that you add to water...its really sickening stuff.
As much as people would like to think that eventually printed mediums will disapear, its just not so. The one thing that you can never get from a digital representation of written works is the fun & randomness of being able to flip through a book held in hand (encyclopedias & dictionaries would be my first examples). That being said, I have discovered many new comic strips & graphic novels online that dont even appear in a printed version. They are incredibly funny, exciting & entertaining and I never would have seen these talented people art otherwise. The digital world allows nobodys the chance to be published and seen.
...but im quite partial to sites that pull info from all the local weather monitoring stations, like public schools. TV stations do this for detailed local forcasts. Weather.gov doesnt seem to be doing this, i could only find info on the biggest city close to me, not the actual city i live in. wunderground.com is my favorite & it works well on my phone too.
...have the boss from "Office Space", only its a woman. But she contantly uses that patronizing voice and after telling you to do something say "mmmmkay that would be great". My first few days working here it was all i could do not to burst out in hysterical laughter when ever she spoke to me. That was two years ago. Now its all i can do to keep from taking off my shoes & socks and stuffing them down her throat.
i dont know how it happened, or exactly when...but at some point it became cool to be as stupid as possible. We are not talking basic geek and jock crap...we are talking about kids really believeing they are cool amungst thier peers, for knowing as little as possible about anything & everything. Its sickening. I long for the days when an ignorant rebelious teen, still tried to stay in school and graduate with some "edjumakation". We are supposed to be rearing our children, preparing them for adulthood, not catering to their every want & desire. Parents are affraid to be parents these days. Here's a hint: if ur kid back talks you, yells at you, disobeys you; here is what you do: BEAT THE LIVING TAR OUT OF THEM. My mother carried a wooden spoon in her purse everywhere we went (even church) till i was about 7 or 8 years old. When i hit my teens i pretty much had figured out who was in charge. Love your children. Teach your children. But dont idolize them. Here's what I mean: this running trend now that every ones a winner, everyone gets a ribbon, there are no losers, all about saving face for your child...its all a crock of sh*t!! In life there are hardships, sometimes you lose, some times life hurts. Dont coddle your children, because you are f*ckin up their heads.
ill bet passengers still have to fit their carry-on into that little square...cause you know even for $200,000 per ticket, they will still lose your baggage.
so after looking at the extra slide shows (now thos pics are priceless) i realized something...estimates placed the crowd at 5500-12,000 people...i know there are some dumbass rednecks out there in this grand country of ours, who probably dont count so well...but who arrives at the back end of a line of even a couple thousand people and then say s to themselves "ya know, i think ill stick around. i just might be able to get one of those 1000 laptops" i think this nation is badly in need of stupid police (Fark.com proves this fact every day). If we had an official "stupid" police officer there this all could have been solved. he could have stood on top of a car about a football field length from the front of the line with a mega-phone and said "listen up all you ignorant f*cks. if you are standing in front of me, go the f*ck home. when you get there start saving some money. once you have enough, go enroll at a local community college. take a math class and a possibly a perspectives class. then if you have any money left over, go get your f*cking eyes checked, just in case...if you try to proceed in this gate you may be arrested or fined by my fellow officers. If i catch you, im gonna mace you in the face and beat you like Rodney...that is all"
Untill parents, teachers, relgious zealots & government officials quit making SEX a taboo, nothing will ever change.
Parents cover their childs eyes, teachers wont answer questions & punish raw comments, "god bother'ers" tell us that our thoughts betray us & our natural desires are sins, and poloticians (standing on the shoulders of the religious zealots) tells us its their "moral" obligation to protect us from ourselves.
Yet for all thier pissing, whining & moaning...sex still sells (refering to ads here), porn is still a flurishing billion dollar industry, and people everywhere are *gasp* still having SEX!!
The solution is as simple as the solution to our drug "problem" (sic)...not less drugs, more drugs...make them legal. Take away the allure of SEX as a rebelious action (especially for kids & teens who most of these moral responsibility laws are directed at) and you will diminish many of societies related problems.
As someone who has worked in the Audio & Video production industry for the better part of a decade, I can tell you the problem inherant in the whole movie making system: GREED.
Although there are some exceptions to the rule movie making has been getting cheaper not more exspensive. They take less time to make, methods of production are easier and the digital revolution has made the mediums on which a movie is created much less exspensive.
What studios could start doing (aside from avoiding sequals and crappy remakes of crappy 80's TV shows) is looking for cheaper talent...these maybe should be getting a piece of the pie (i.e. revenues) but not as large of a slice as they are currently. For every big name actor demanding 30 mil for a part, there are thousands of very talented up and coming actors & actress who could do it (and would do it) for less.
Less exspensive movie productions can contribute directly to cheaper movie tickets. And stop making these mammoth F'ing multi-plexes!! Hell the sound is better in a smaller room anyway.
What if we look at this from a different angle (uhh no pun intended there) In this scenario advertisements are being picked according to your viewing habits....what about being interested in a product that has nothing to do with your viewing habits? As much as everyone says they hate commercials, there are tons of products out there that if i hadnt seen some random commercial for it, i never would have sought it out on my own. I for one like commercials...i also like the ability to skip the ones that dont pertain to me...but id like to keep them random, not have them tailored to me, i might miss some great product or never here about some great service or business if the content provider doesnt think that i should see it...
The problem is that the average user doesnt understand what cookies are, how they can be missused, when they are appropriate and how to manage cookies themselves. And there is many a business thats is/wants to take advantage of this fact. Perhaps in the next iteration of (enter your fav browser here) it should start with a popup box explaining the ins and outs of cookies for the layperson to understand. and of course most/.'ers could just skip it.
You know if terrorists really wanted to "get our goat" they should start their own space program. I here there are lots of caves to hide in on Mars...and god knows we wouldn't put put much effort into searching a place we new them to be hiding.;)
I kneow SPAM is a huge problem world wide. However i dont get why people dont learn from thier mistakes. In the late 90's I used to have tons of SPAM arriving in my inbox. Since then i now keep three email addresses; one for personal contact, one for doing online transactions and one for filling out online forms (like contests & website registration). Since then i have had no SPAM in my 2 main accounts and very little (cause im very picky about the places i register) in the account i do give out the address to. Im glad that there are businesses and government efforts to combat SPAM but some of the responsibilty can still be layed on the shoulders of the fools who continue to give out their address to every ipod give-a-way website they see. Come on people, wise up. Help these do-gooders help you!
The debate about the reseasons or roots to why these people play (and get obsessed by) these video games (or other forms of entertainment) could go on forever. After reading all the comments here, I find that most of you are missing the big picture. Remeber the choice Cypher makes in "The Matrix"...how many people would make the same decision if given a similar choice. Its like choosing the better of two hells. "So Bob, you can choose to either live out your days: a.)working in your 5x7 cube, going home to ur tiny apartment, repeating failed dating attempts, deal with all the emotional and physical pains life has to offer like depression and stubbing your toe OR b.)You can be kept on life support in a tube of goo with the assurance of a long life of battling virtual monsters, saving the princess, collecting coins and even if you fail...you can always load a save game....its your call Bob" WWMD? (what would mario do?)
...why do we need an Australian wine maker to tell us that Linux is a good OS...there is a big fricken penguin on the menu bar for crying out loud!
FYI: you cant get Koolaid in Australia anyway and the only close subsitute is called Cordial...its basicly thick flavored surup that you add to water...its really sickening stuff.

The explaination of the ramifications: This galaxy is going down the drain quick....
I wonfer what color it would be when grown in a lab...would this become "the other red meat"??
